I thought it would be a good idea to make a thread with all currently known information of Structured PvP, seeing as there has been a huge amount of info and videos from Gamescom and there will be even more from Pax Prime. This will be updated as more information, videos and interviews are released. I like Jon Peters. That dude has a good grasp on what is going on. He is always very serious though, haha! |

Originally posted by Diovidius In this interview : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iS74nfyKu3o&feature=player_embedded Jon Peters clearly states that they are currently only developing Conquest map types for structured PvP, because this game type fits the game best, if they want to make GW2 an E-sport all structured PvP needs to be the same type... So people don't need to learn other gametypes when they switch maps. So Regina must be pointing at RvRvR, as all structured PvP for now will be conquest based. Originally posted by Lord.Bachus No, she's specifically pointing at Structured PvP. Look at the entire quote: Just to clarify: Conquest is not the only PvP game type. We have other formats that we are not ready to talk about, so for gamescom we are focusing our information releases on formats that we are ready to talk about. We'll talk more about other PvP game types in the future. The first part is about Structured PvP, the second part is about WvWvW. Over at guildwars2guru, we also did not understand it so I guess we have to wait for clarification. |

Originally posted by Diovidius Well, one of them is wrong.... beacuse they both are telling something different... And Jon Peters sounded really convincing to me. I think the only way we're going to see different tyoes of maps is if the closed beta testers specifically ask for them. Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) |

Originally posted by Lord.Bachus Well in the interview with Izzy (from tentonhammer) he basically backs up what Regina said. So it looks like Jon Peters was misquoted or made a mistake or whatever. In any case there will be more pvp game types than conquest. One departure from the first game, no more GvG. |

Originally posted by Lord.Bachus No Bachus, you just interpreted what he said wrong. Jon never said there wouldn't be other stuff apart from Conquest maps, he just said the reason they are showing the Conquest mode is because its the one mode they've taken the furthest and fleshed out the most. In that vid, actually even right at the beginning he clearly states that "Yes there will be other objectives but we don't know what they will be yet because we haven't finished working on them". This is not a game. |

"Regina: Just to clarify: Conquest is not the only PvP game type." End of story conquest is "one" of the game types to come. Meaning there is other game types that may possibly be more like GvG or game types on a larger scale then 5v5 that can more closely resemble a GvG battle. Jon Peters said they didnt see GvG as all that successful becuase it didnt appeal to the large population of people that are not in guild or in large guilds, he did not say there will be no GvG type of gameplay. If there will be no guild battles they will loose a good portion of faithful community as you can see there is many people worried that there will be no GvG and I'm sure ArenaNet sees this because they Invited a guild Boon Control to showcase the pvp. Im Sure Boon Control enjoyed the game but Guild aspect is what brings PVP guilds to games without it guild minded people might not feel WvW as rewarding as a structured GvG pvp. |
