Hey, how come no one is creating mmorpg based on DUNE. I personally, really love dune, mainly because I played Dune I/II a lot when I was young. And I think Dune lore is really perfect for mmo (tree factions, go go). Oh and I love that desert atmosphere.
Anyhow lotro has mmo, Conan has mmo, warhammer has mmo. Its time for DUNE mmo, don you think? |

Not that I wouldn't love a Dune MMO but this topic has already been beaten to death, rezzed and beaten to death again a couple of dozen times. Do a search on this site for 'Dune' and you'll find about a hundred threads on the subject.

With that said, I'd like to see a "Dune" MMO done in SWG's skill system & sandbox (no pun intended) style of gameplay. Without "Jedi" being the Alpha class to ruin a Dune MMO, i could see it taking off like a rocket.
Anyone else feel it'd be a good fit for Dune? |

You know they could basically use a timeframe set before the rise of Paul Atreides. That said I don't think I trust any game studios to handle it properly.

Originally posted by Kilrane Dune is a nearly impossible IP to work with. Too much of the story hinges on concepts MMOs do incredibly poorly, economics and politics specifically. It's a matter of expectations colliding and ruining themselves in the process. In a way Dune, Harry Potter and (just because it springs to mind) Highlander are all quite similar. They have interesting worlds, but at the same time the game people look for is to play out the guide's story (but with "freedom"). Let's be honest, most players want to be Paul, Harry or one of the MacLeods. Even then we generally only want the actiony/heroic parts. Stuff like playing the market or manipulating men of power is just too subtle. None of these games will work because the parts that actually hold those worlds together aren't fun to play. |

Originally posted by ghstwolf True, but when the IP's universe is far stronger than it's central characters (*not* Harry Potter) most people are content to just be in that world. An example comes to mind; SWG. (nuff said?) Writer / Musician / Game Designer Now Playing: Skyrim, Wurm Online, Tropico 4 |

Yeah a Dune MMORPG would be great and popular, because there are alot of Dune fans out there from the books, games and videos. The reason this question is asked so often is because there is a huge want for this game to be developed. If it ever is created, I'd hope to see giant sandworms chasing after people and vehicles on Arrakis. I also hope that it would have the 4 houses trying to take over sections of Arrackis in an endless PvP turf war for end game.
