You guys are funny. As soon as theres an option to buy something, you freak out and say you're not playing. Its still the same game. What changes. I mean honestly, think about it before clicking reply.

If a guy spends 18 hours a day for a week playing a game and gets better stuff than you, you dont complain. But if another guy spends his money that he earned to get better than stuff than you, you get upset? So what? In both cases, neither of these people's actions affect you. They both just have decent stuff. One spent time, the other spent money. You act like devs of any game are going to sell a one super weapon that makes a crappy player into a good player. The only things cashshops do are either let people progress faster, look fancy, or give them quality of life. You can spend your time getting the same things.

Some people want to waste money on things that dont really exist and others want to waste time for them, in the end, everyone loses something. I assume its kids/teens whos brains are still developing that in that "its not fair" mindset. Its pretty fair. Some people have a lot of time, some people have more money, some people have neither, some people have both.

Then as mentioned, you shouldn't have a problem with MMO's like WoW selling gold or high-level, fully decked out characters. After all, some people don't have the time to farm gold, level characters, or farm for high-end raid/pvp items, so why shouldn't they be able to spend money on them instead and get them immedately? And illegal third party sites will be selling these things and likely stealing your account as well, so you get to nip those issues in the bud at the same time.

Actually I wouldn't have a problem with them allowing players to seel each other gold, through a secure means, kind of like eve with plex.  I think its a good system.  It is not the same as Blizz making gold out of the air and selling it for money, which is what you are implying.  This is for players to sell each other items, not for blizz to sell them.  so your analagy is a bit off.  The correct question would be "so you wouldn't have a problem with blizz allowing people to sell gold to each other for real money?"

Well I had already made the decision not to play D3 a few months ago (just don't like the classes). Seeing things like this pop up helps take the sting out of that decision.

That said I do agree with the posters saying that RMT be it sanctioned or non sanctioned is inevitable in this game. Sadly there are just too many gamers these days that prefer to get ahead with their wallets than by actually playing the game. (And before someone blames the casual gamers, all of the people I know who do this are what I would consider hard core, competitive gamers.) It makes sense financially for Blizzard to figure out a way to earn revenue off this demographic. I don't like the idea, nor will I support a company that uses it, but I understand it.

in diablo 2 i have to mf and find my hard earn gears, now all the rich guys just have to throw their credit card to get it with no sweat ._. and the gold farmers will just have to bot all days and selling stuff on ah legit and  thend everyone will have the same legendary items. i also heard they r  planning on the future to sell/trade characters on AH too...but whatever now i have a job i don't need to mf anymore just let the gold famers find  legendary stuff for me :D

They're accepting the lesser of two evils, resolving the issue of unsafe transactions for players (and of course saving themselves tons of account related headaches) and making money on the deal as well.

Seems like the best possible compromise, even if it falls short of the ideal solution that we would perhaps prefer.

And if this proves to be successful, I can see other MMO's like T2 quickly following suit.

In my day MMORPG's were sooooo hard we fought our way through dungeons in the snow....uphill both ways.
Still currently "subscribed" to EVE, and only EVE!!!

Some truths are difficult to face.  At least in this case its not a tough decision like drugs and cartels.

Making it legal and regulating it weakens the criminal element that will be there whether or not you want it to be.

Exactly. But wait until you see the absolute HYSTERIA thats going to result from this announcement... ^^  Some people have more money, some have more time. Its a question of which is valued the most in a given situation.

This is a brilliant business model for any MMO producer to follow.

All of you broke ass kids that bitch about monthly fees and think developers are in the charity business this should be of great interest to you...

Rather than these third party china corps with their 24 hour child labor sweatshops pumping out gold farmers and item farmers to sell on third party "illegal" sites which the reality of it all is a BIG BUSINESS and not going away... When the farmers RMT revenue creeps up on the actual MMO revenue it is obviously working...

What this seems to do is create an in game "EBAY" for people to hawk their wares... and much like the REAL EBAY you will pay a fee to use the service in form of percentage. This would be a great way for players to subsidize their gaming costs.

I can see reading stories of average players a year or two from now earning a decent living by selling in game items within a games sanctioned RMT AH...

If you don't think this crap is going on already you should just kill yourself right now... type "Diablo 2 items" in Google and see what you get... Furthermore the problem is WAY bigger than the gamining industry itself can solve... It's like suddenly the drug cartel has more guns than the army... And unless we plan on bombing China anytime soon this will remain an ongoing issue...

What are your other Hobbies?

Gaming is Dirt Cheap compared to this...

" Each week players will receive a number of ‘free listings’ for the real money auction house, letting them put items up for sale without having to pay real money. Even if you haven’t entered your credit card details, you can earn real money from items this way.

Cashing out will be dealt with by a third party Blizzard aren’t ready to announce, and that party will charge a fee for the withdrawal. If you don’t withdraw your funds, you can spend them on other items in the auction house, or to buy anything else from the Blizzard store – which carries digital versions of all their major games, and in-game pets for World of Warcraft.

What about those other Blizzard games? “I think this works particularly well within the Diablo system.” says Rob. “99.9% of the items will not be soulbound in any way.” In World of Warcraft, soulbinding prevents you from trading many items to other players. “I really don’t see us doing it for WoW ever "

+++++++++++++++++

They are going to make RMT a normal transaction, but not allow people to trade most of their items?

I think many are looking at D3 with their MMO glasses on, D3 is not an MMO - You're not going to bump into Beefy Jimmy while out skinning boars and he 2 shoots you with his bow of uber power that he bought for $10 of the auction house.  D3 is largley a solo game unless you choose to group and the people you group with are on your side.

It's not like there is a vender with an endless supply for $25 uber boots that all players can get - a player will need to....

1. get lucky enough to get the drop

2. not want it for himself

3. not want to break it down for mats

4. not want to give it to a friend

5. not want to give it to another of his characters

6. not want to sell it for ingame gold

only tten he *might* want to put it up for sale on the ingame RMT auction house.

All items have a level requirement so you wont see a lvl 5 in level 30 gear.

If i had the choice to do 2-6 or sell for real money, which do you think a person would reasonably choose?
I know which one I will choose and I hope that I can beat out the RMT companies that will have a stranglehold on the AH since they will just bombard it with a ton of stuff since they cannot even be banned for doing something legal.

Whether or not any of you want to admit this, RMT plagued Diablo 2.  Anyone could google one of these websites and buy anything they wanted, or they could wait for a spammer in game to come along and follow their direction.  The only difference now is that the millions of illegal outfits running this will be next to none.  Blizzard has faced this reality with the only logical decision, that is to regulate it themselves.  If you weren't interested in buying gold/items and such, then you are still presented with the option of not doing it.  This is exactly the same option that you had with the previous game.  There is no difference, just because you didn't do it in Diablo 2 doesn't mean the option wasn't there.

I'm not going to say no to one of the biggest games to come out in the past 10 years just because Blizzard decided to do the only thing that can be done to fight RMT outfits.  Take a step back and look at the situation.  It's still going to be a good game.

Blizzard hasn't fixed this, they're just making sure they get their cut.  ironically, this is also how organized crime operates.

Besides, the RMT thing (which never affected me while playing the first two games) is just one of the birds being flipped at the player.  And their rationlization for no offline mode is insulting thin.

Well clearly you're aim is profilt - however I dont think you'll profit from items selling for $2.99 minus fee's, my aim is to play this game with several friends and have some fun then move onto hardcore characters and beat it!

RMT operations will still try to operate outside of the system. Blizzard takes a cut of the transaction, which would cut down on the profit made by the seller. For a player, this isn't a big deal. For a business, using the game as their medium to make a profit, it is. The trick for Blizzard is to make the in game RMT preferable to the out of game RMT.

Especially in the case of Diablo, the in game RMT will be far preferable to out of game RMT.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

If I can make $2.99 of a minor amount of items I sell would be great. I was not expecting to make a ton of it anyway. It will help pay for my gas for my camaro. :D However, you and your friends have fun. There will be plenty of people selling a majority of the items in the AH for more than just $5 dollars. ( It could be less, it is up to how the RMT companies price the things, since they will be the main factor on the ebb and flow of the market.)

I can digg it - Its about time we start to differentiate between rich and poor.

For too long the lines between income-classes have been blured. I laugh at these poor people trying to find entertainment in the virtuel world.

Even playing-field, no way ! - I have way more money than you, and I want it to show.

So good on you - as one of the bigger players in the industry - for showing the way.

United we will fulfill the dream.

Whether you like it or not, people are going to spend real money to buy items in D3 just as they did in D2. You all should be happy that Blizzard is now providing a safe way for it to occur thereby eliminating risk of stolen accounts and also reducing the opportunity for abusive slavemasters forcing farmers to work harsh conditions just to provide digital goods.

I think you're confusing the conditions of work between gold farming and Walmart employees, but whatever.  I'm not going to play Diablo 3 (even though I loved D2 LOD and miss my 82 sorc).  I'm not going to play because it's a Blizzard game and I am SICK of Blizzard.  To me it's not really about RMT or gold farmers or SOJ farmers, for that matter.  And everyone is entitled, of course, to have their own opinion of Blizzard, D3, RMT, and whatever else might become a topic in this thread.  We're not all going to agree and that doesn't make you right for thinking the way you do, or me right for thinking the way I do.  It just makes us different.

D3 is an absolute no-go for me. Blizzard has had enough of my money over the years.

I am very stoked about this as a huge part of MMO's for me is playing the auction houses and farming gold, so this is a huge oppertunity for me! :)

Tumbling down the rabbit hole?

I wonder if World of Warcraft will ever follow suit with their own RMT auction house to sell your BOE items and make some real gold?
