someone plz save this link as it will get posted in the summer of 2012 as well. It has been posted every summer since 2006 that I can remember. I don't know if people realize that most of the good people in the world actually want to go OUTSIDE when it's warm. I happen to live somewhere where it's hot 10 months out of 12, so it's no big deal for me. However, I'm the exception. Let's see..I've been in about 12 corps in about 8 alliances on and off for 5 years. Here's the breakdown in summer: students want to see girls in bikini's so they are busy. Students want to drink with girls that they were with all day in the sun...so they are busy at night. I used to be in a corp with a school teacher. He actually traveled and spent time doing single guy stuff in the summer. Which leads us to married people. What do most married people have? Kids. What do they do for 3 months when there's no school? Oh..they want to do stuff with their families. Which in my case includes stuff like this...trips to the mall, trips to the zoo, fishing and boating, movies, eating out, going to the park, going to the beach. Oh and what else? Family inlaws want to come to town to see said rugrats...so that takes up more time. Any of this making sense? The world doesn't revolve around EvE..even if people that don't have anyone that they are responsible too in their lives don't recognize this. I know that may come as a shock..but EvE is a game. It will always drop in the warmer months because of said examples. If you want a direct correlation why don't people post in December..."EvE's population is soaring!!!!!" Because no one wants good news, that isn't forum worthy. Ever attack Russian Space in the winter? Not a good idea.
Edit: Spelling Playing: BF3 and Skyrim...maybe Darkfall UW |

The current record of 63,170 online was posted on January 23, 2011. Make of it what you will, but it wasn't that long ago. A year and a half from now, if that's still the record, the OP might be on to something. |

Originally posted by qazyman It does actually. Gamers play more certain time of the years, particularly the holidays and they play less during the summer when the weather is fine. You can't compare how many players a game had the 26th of december with how many it have the 23rd August and say since it have less today it have lost players. Months are not as bad but winter and autumn months still have more players than spring and summer months so the easiest way to compare is to pick a month and check the subs every year that month. |

Thus the "year and a half". I was comparing January to January, but it doesn’t matter because that isn’t the point.
If a game has been out for 7 or 8 year and has it’s highest numbers during the current year, it’s going to take over a year to say anything definitive.
So it really doesn’t make any sense at all, and your post isn’t much better. Just say’n.

I dont want poeple to get all "Upset" about this thread ... i just see a drop from the Start of the year and the PCU numbers are moving lower and lower. I look at that chart on there EVE home page most Sundays ...and it is always lower than the sunday before. Even if its just by a fraction. Also summer happens all over the planet. If its Summer in the UK its Winter in the US ... and so on. So I dont see how we can blame the weather for the sub drop unless .. 80% of the players are in the UK? Or am i missing somthing ... :-) |

Originally posted by qazyman For example, any sort of financial statements that is being published by Funcom is solely being compared as follows: Q1 of 2010 with Q1 of 2011, Q2 of 2010 with Q2 of 2011 and so on. This is common practice. If you can't understand why, I hope you can at least use google.com and find it out by yourself, as this is used in every sort of business, including things like National budgets - if they announce, gas industry went up by 5% this month, they meant it improved 5% compared to the same month of previous year. Originally posted by GnatBug Actually, yes. Planetary axial tilt and wobble determines summer and winter, so you'd need to compare a country in the northern hemisphere with a country in the southern hemisphere for your example to be correct, in the case of Earth. Pedantic but true :) F2P/P2P excellent thread. |

LOL ... anyway ..On high note the OP actualy has a point. The Graph is moving lower on EvEs web site. Every week its just below the previouse week. Also the EVE Offline API to retrieve info is suddely offline. Yes you can still see the graphs but you can not pull the data like you where able to do a month ago... Why? Also there is without a dout a downward trend from the start of this year and no amount of fanboy feavour can cover that up. "I see you like to chew!" |

Originally posted by KitKat1 As far as I know, CCP has been open that the so called 'monocle-gate' that the OP is referring to, has led to people un-subbing their accounts. So I doubt there is any cover up really. http://www.gamereactor.eu/articles/7985/The+Trial+of+EVE+Online/ "one of the biggest cases of people cancelling subs in the history of EVE" Wonder why there seems to be more haters on the internet? Read this by an actual marketing guy to find out why. |

Nitth: What makes you so sure its a simple fix? filmoret: Because most of them are. Sometimes its just changing a number in a code string other times its creating a few variables. However none of them should take over a few hours of coding. |

Eve is Bleeding subs .. There is no dout about it. I dont think players have been satisfied with the direction of the game. And all that talk at the CSM summit was just that.... just to have the CSM go into hibernation mode..... is just a joke. The day has come for me or my 3 accounts which are on 6 month subscipion cycles to be renewed.... and i say.....HELL NO..! Its been 3 months now ... nothing has happened to make me feel any better about 0.0 or the direction of the game. So i will do what HILMAAAR said we should do ... and not say we will do... 3 more long term subs gone ... Mr CCP.. ! |

I'm still playing Eve and still enjoying it. But myself and my entire (admittedly small) corp are worried about the direction the game is taking. We never wanted walking in stations, it just encourages people to stay docked up instead of out in space doing things. And although people have a point in saying not to do that part of the game if you don't enjoy it, at the same time resources (which are not unlimited) that is being spent on this instead of on additional in-space content will lead to game stagnation. It's quite clear that CCP want Eve to take that next step in terms of popularity and money making ability by increasing the number of subs. That means giving the game a wider appeal, to move it from the niche it sits in. The problem is that players like myself who enjoy that niche game will move on to the next niche. As long as CCP keeps the overall numbers increasing then it doesn't matter if they lose some people, and I get that - it's free market capitalism. Still sucks to see something I've been a part of for 6 years go away from me.
I don't think Eve will die - I think it will still be popular in 3 years' time. It just won't likely be a game that I am playing anymore. I do hope I'm wrong, as I said I'm still enjoying it right now (although I have dropped from 5 subs to 3). I'm just not optimistic. www.ygworlds.net |

Now im comming from this as a newbie, subbing and loving the game, and it is clear that eventually i will migrate from pve to pvp, so there is fresh blood, so can I ask the question, what do long term big pvp corps think is needed long term to keep veterans interested? rpg/mmorg history: Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW (9500 hrs on main mage)> oblivion > LOTR (480 Hunter) > Rift (230 hours mage) > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(350 elementalist) Now playing GW2/Diablo 3/Rift Waiting Archeage. |

Eve is dying again? To all those who are leaving... can I have your stuff? "How should I know if it works? That's what beta testers are for. I only coded it." |

While I do have some concerns, I by and large am apathetic to this stuff. I'm more concerned about their QA process and letting bugs come from SiSi which have been widely reported on making it, albeit in a dimished form, onto TQ.
That, to me, is a hundred times worse than speculation about Eve becoming barbies in space because barbies in space doesn't do a damn thing to the blowing the hell out of each other mechanic while the bugs do. |

I'm not sure if everyone who claims everything is fine with EVE are just trolling or what, but it should be very clear by now that EVE numbers are abnormal. Concurrent players are clearly down, whether they recover in the fall/winter will be the big question, not whether or not they are already down. I've been playing this game since 2004 and there is always drama and claims EVE is dying. While I don't think EVE is in any danger of dying, I suspect CCP is heading for trouble. EVE is paying for the development of two other games and a decrease in revenue from EVE will have a big impact of CCPs finances. The years of neglect are finally showing in EVE numbers. The next 6-12 months will be critical for EVE. |
