i remember months ago the CEO fired lot of people and make the game f2p for current subscribers.

how about now? if i buy the game, am i entitle free subscription?

It's F2P for now. It isn't going to be permanently. They stated that they would not charge a monthly fee for it until they were satisifed with the product.

i have this game lying around i ll give it an honest chance now !i had tried the first 3 level and i hated the way it went

loading wait for it loading oh great still waiting to load . i dont mind the loading but i like it to do it in a timely maner not being done next week!

ps:it isnt f2p it is 12.99 +3 each aditional toon monthly

There is a patch coming July 22nd that is supposed to make major changes to the game. I'm looking forward to it, but I don't think this one patch will be the thing that brings them back to start charging a monthly fee... If I'm right, now's a good time to get your 'free trial'.

It's not F2P. At best, you could compare it right now to Guild Wars, where you still have to buy the game/box. 

They just currently aren't charging a subscription while they fix the game up and get it to where they feel it's ready to re-enable subscription fees.

Players have tried to tell the devs that on the official forum, but they're drowned out by the horde of FFXI fanbois who want FFXIV to be FFXI-2.

It's currently B2P with a plan to change to F2P in the future once the game is more of a.. game. They've got a tricky road ahead though regarding that. If they start charging too early it will outrage the playerbase.

F2P generally means "free to play" not fee to pay.  FFXIV will have a subscription fee once they start charging.  Just to clarify, FFXIV has no plans to ever transition to a F2P or "microtransaction" model.

 He meant that they plan to change it to P2P. Not Free 2 Play.

I don't think that's the wrong idea though. The game is pretty much dead for the rest of the player base. If they manage to retain the XI fanbase, they can at least cut their losses.

 Why not, I've seen it as low as 19.99.. can't remember where, but not many visually striking games out there for 19.99.

I've seen the collector's edition at Gamestop for $25. It's worth picking that up.

The joke is that FF14 ~is~ free to play...but only while it sucks. Once it doesn't suck anymore, they're going to charge you. So basically, you can play as much as you like for free while the game is unplayable, and once the game is playable they're going to start charging all those people who stuck by them - through thick and thin - to play characters they've already invested time into.

Such a joke. I understand they need to make money but in light of the circumstances an actual f2p/b2p + cash shop conversion makes the most sense. But whatever. Not my game.

I actually picked up the CE a couple weeks back and the game is awesome... It's different. Visuals are incredible and the depth is there which some may not agree with. I was a huge fan of FFXI and most did not like that game because of the controls along with death pentaly, camping NM, etc... I can agree that both games have thier "OMG why is this so complicated" moments but they are different and from most of the forums I read everyone wants something different...but not to different....

They should just keep it B2p.

Fix the damn game, raise the box price a bit and get to work on bi monthly DLC.

I can't believe SE messed up so bad with this game after how good FFXI was.

Fix it, dont charge a lame sub and they will come. they will even pay a few bucks for your DLC if u do a good enough job.
