I have been playing MMORPG's for 7 or 8 years now and i have never gotten a Trojan warning while trying to update my game before from any of my anti-virus software. I sent an email to Rift support and they sent me an 8 step procedure on how to let the Trojan on my computer allowing me to update my game. Perhaps i don't know enough about such things but I am curious if any one else is having this type of issue with other mmorpg's? 7/7/2011 8:59:41 AM Web Anti-Virus Detected: Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Zlob.aces RIFT - Patcher http://update2.triongames.com/ch1-live-client-patch/restricted/patchlive01/bundle_STABLE-334-29-A-443086-STABLE-334-30-A-443214.0?sha1=759f9225c5f28d10854318d4b2b6e9b501f1ca91 It could be a false positive or they have a Trojan on the patcher or my anti-virus blows chucks and perhaps a few other things as well. |

Probably false detection on your antivirus end (If its caused by rift). Quick google search learns a lot. http://www.ehow.com/facts_5007559_what-trojan-downloader.html
I think it's because the patcher reads the status of your install folder and sends it to their patching server. (To know wich files still need to be installed). |

It could be a false positive or.... Perhaps this multi million dollar project with hundreds of thousands of users was made with the sole purpose of putting a trojan on your computer. I'm not trying to mock you, but I mean, just think about it. PS. What anti virus do you use. |

Strange, Kas isn't bad ware at all. It's a false positive, if you got the client directly from the company that is. I personally use ESET and didn't get a flag on this one, but it is safe. I'd report it to Kaspersky though to save others the confusion. |

i have reported to both Rift and Kaspersky time will tell but do know that some antivirus programs don't look for trojans and some may find it while others do not. I am goind to wait until either Rift fixes or Kaspersky fixes but I am not going to up date Rift until i know it is safe. Trojans can be a total hassle to get off the machine. |

If you're using Kaspersky, this is a known issue. There's a post by one of the devs about it on the Rift forums - apparently Kaspersky are working on a fix.

Originally posted by Plutonicwoes Indeed. I mean it's not that huge million dollar companies get hacked at all these days. Most likely it is a false positive. I personally would not simply regard it as a false positive just because it come from a renown company. In fact the bigger the company the more poeple that work there that might have bad intent, does not even have to be an outside source. I think it's better to be on the save side just to ask like the OP did then to risk getting your computer infected. Normally a google search could tell you if some Anti-virus give you a false positive with some programs though. |
