Really, I'm sick of 'em. Maybe they were scarey when I was 7, I can't remember but they are just plain annoying and irritating now. Most new MMO's/Expansions/Patches seems to run on the assumption that if it doesn't have a dragon in it then its just not epic enough. I know they're supposed to be the ultimate evil and all that but they just don't work for me, especially with every Hollywood dragon being a talking gentle giant with the occasional layer of lipstick to boot. Make a butterfly 50 storeys tall and breath fire and it'll do just as well at destroying stuff. I was starting to look forward to GW2 until I saw this on the website: "For generations, war and chaos raged across the land of Tyria. Five great races competed and warred against each other, struggling to tip the balance of power in their favor. Then the dragons woke. The all-powerful beasts...blah blah everyone's doomed." So are other people over the flying lizards? |

What do you consider epic then? Raving rabbits?

Not me. I have little to no interest in games that try to create all new creatures to populate their world. Dragons, Orcs, Goblins, Trolls, etc are creatures ingrained in our minds from stories and legends. It is easy to wrap my mind around them and understand them some. When a game creates a new creature it is harder to feel an attachement to it. I grew up on Dungeons and Dragons....I like my games to take D&D to the next level. |

Originally posted by Alot In Darkfall you had nice dragons too, not with such a good Ai, but they flew nicely for sure, they also were burning people from the sky, was really nice to watch them do their tricks, and not so nice to be their target. Having better mobs in mmo will come, it might need few more decade to have the mmo designers nervous system hit their brain tough ;p |

If the thought of Dragons bores you, then maybe it's the just fantasy setting you're sick of. They're still as epic as ever whenever I come acrossed them in my games (NWN2 most recently, and holy crap it was awesome). If anything we'll only be seeing much more of them show up in games after Skyrim hits shelves, so maybe it's just time to get out. |

Originally posted by Goknub ... but... but the dragons in GW2 are amusingly big. Like. REALLY big. No. Bigger than that. They're... huge. I'm all for ridiculously oversized dragons. If you can't mistake a dragon for a large sized island when it goes swimming, it's just too darn small. |

You are entitled to your opinion and I value it greatly. Now...dragons are a must in any fantasy MMO in my opinion. The lore of dragons just fits the genre. |

Greetings, As a spokesperson for the Anti Dragon Defamation League I too, am strongly opposed to the very one sided image in which dragonhood is depicted in your average roleplaying game. Absurdly large, destructive, evil and with a very bad breath are just some of the common denominators. All this whilst your average dragon in real life is an outgoing, gentle, yes even a benign vegetarian creature of perhaps a feet or four, spending its time being mostly harmless while either sunbathing or grazing vegetation. Let's put an end to this, people. Dark Pony Anti Dragon Defamation League

I'm fine with the fiction of dragons. If not a dragon, then the developers need to come up with some other massive beast that has a fairly universal appeal or dread for people. The odds are that the developers won't pull it off unless they rope in some other large archetypal monster. I'm sick of the way MMOs depict dragons. They may look tough enough, but MMOs just don't have the machinery in place to do them justice. They're big bags of hit points that respawn. For me, the silliness of MMO gaming is too obvious when it comes time to down the big boss monsters. I can tolerate killing lots of nameless orcs far better than I can tolerate killing the same distinctive, uniquely-named dragon over and over again. |

Dragons can be interesting if you use them right. My favorite dragon is Lofwyr, the evil CEO of Pseudo-Krupp in Shadowrun. But the dragons in MMOs are mostly "meh". Not much personality, overused and pretty boring. Dragons are supposed to be more than a large lizard that like sleeping on a pile of gold. The are supposed to be smarter than the average person (or player), evil in a constructive way and the crop of the cream in fantasy. If you want something really overused to complain on I would aim on elves instead. Tolkien ripped them of norse mythology and D&D simplified them, now they are everywhere and are usually bad clones of Legolas and Galadriel. To me it seems like GW is handeling dragons pretty well. They are few but very powerful instead of plenty like in certain other popular games.
