This doesn't really surprise me. I'm planning on reactivating my SWG subscription this year just to see what I've missed since I stopped playing ages ago. Regardless of everything that's transpired with the game over the years (good and bad), SWG was my first true MMO, and while I'm waiting for TOR, I'd like to play it to help pass the time, especially since its future post-2011 seems uncertain at the moment. (And, yeah, I know every year people claim it's about to close down, but this announcement was just added incentive for me to check it out one more time.) |

"This strategic alignment of development resources better positions SOE to remain a global leader in online gaming and deliver on its promise of creating entertaining games for players of all ages, and servicing the 20 million players that visited SOE servers in just the past year." I almost fell out of my chair laughing. SOE is no global leader in online gaming. NGE killed SWG. Get over it like the rest of us did in 2005. |

For me after EQ I never felt SOE has been a global leader in online gaming. |

And that "roadmap" for SWG read more like a "year in review" press piece. Nothing new, even though Linda said there would be more info than usual in it. |

SOEs been in big trouble for years, first smack down was 2007, didnt they take control away from Smed, hes got a boss now I think. PC gaming is dieing anyways, its all going consoles. At least thiers one good game coming out this year, BF3, and that was only cause DICE felt like rewarding the poeple that made them. They know PC gamers built them, sucks we are the little stick anymore. Man I miss the good old days. |

People have said games are going all console for YEARS. PC will always be tops for those with the cash for building a sweet rig. Building a sweet rig is not outragous today either. I will NEVER buy another console. Built as cheap as possible with flimsy componants to cut costs. If I have a extra $400 I would put it into my PC (like I just did). Console chipsets will NEVER have the quality of the componants you can get for PC.

I think they can see the writing on the wall. Once TOR gets released SWG will have too few subscribers to justify keeping it around. It's too bad. This game could have been so much more. NGE killed SWG. Get over it like the rest of us did in 2005. |

I don't remember where it came from but I saved it to my HDD when I saw it, console sales has domated PC sales for years.

gaming companies love putting their games out for consoles. it's easier to work with(only 3 seperate kinds as opposed to a million different pc configs), it sells to a much larger market & there's far less complaints. lets face it, the pc gamers for the most part can easily build a nice rig for $600 but Joe Schmoe down the block is using his system for facebook & email & not much else. plus when it comes time for upgrades its a lot easier for them to go to walmart & pick up a new PS, Xbox or whatever than it is to buy pc parts & try to figure what components work with what & certain specs & all that. I kinda doubt that pc gaming will ever die but console sales definitely dominate & will probably only continue to grow. Unless of course they get ridiculous on pricing. I'm kinda shocked people were paying over $400 for PS3's when they came out, imagine what the next generation will cost. |

Then take into account subscribtions to online games and item mall revenue, the monetary flow would be much closer. Also, is this a global chart or domestic? The PC side has a lot of alternate revenue variables. Game purchases alone aren't quite enough to judge the entire value of an industry. |

Hey Devs, just so you know. The more you give us to play with, the more we play. |

Originally posted by denshing Isnt just World of Warcrafts yearly income more or less something like 1.9 - 2.1 billion a year? 12 million X 14.99 X 12months or something like that. I know thats not perfect formula, because some people buy their game time in blocks at a discount and the Asian countrys pays just slightly different style. But I would venture to guess that this chrat doesnt factor in revenue generated by PC subscritions (obvoiusly). I would even guess that just with recurring MMO subs and DLC and item shops PC games over all generate closer to 3-4 billion. So about 1/3 of the money generated is supported by what, 1/10th (maybe closer to 1/30th) of the games released?
What would most of you guess? 1 out of every 20 games released in a year is a PC game? I'm sure I read somewhere consoles release about 4x - 5x the number of games as the PC platform does a year. |

As much as I wanted to like this game, I really think this is a long time coming. SOE did good with EQ and EQ2 but the rest have been pretty terrible. Release a game with a very large established fanbase from 10+ years of bnet history when the market was still emerging and the casual base had not yet been established, thus ripe for harvesting a momentious self perpetuating playerbase people never leave because they have X hours invested in their characters, and their friends and everyone else plays anyway. Not discounting Blizzard quality... but WoW's success is as much about perfect timing as it is quality, if not more so. - Derros |

If SOE would simply let me combine my 3 Accounts into one so I could play all 6 Toons on one Server I would re-sub until SWTOR...But they'll never do that, or offer a discounted Sub rate for that matter...And that's why I'm done with SWG...It's just a REAL poor value in the current Marketplace...Even if the Game was better than most, and it's not...It would still be a poor value... 2 Characters per Server for $15 per Month?...Pass... |
