Originally posted by DarthMooska I was talking about BW making a MMO for the first time vs all their SPGs. That it is still an unknown as to how all the features will work together to become a MMO. Not just a regular MMO, but a MMO with 500k+ subs. We all know that SW:TOR is a MMO with lots of hype out there. “How many people long for that "past, simpler, and better world," I wonder, without ever recognizing the truth that perhaps it was they who were simpler and better, and not the world about them?” |

If yes, then which aspect? Of course, ALL games will have balancing issues, but I just don't understand why people like to make stupid assumptions even before they tried something. With Regards, |

I actually think the cover system will be quite good. Watching it in action really gets me excited and is just one of the many reasons my first character will be a smuggler.
The class system sounds like a lot of fun, you can spec different combinations per class. For example, some classes can have 3 or 4 specs, sometimes even multiclassing specs like a stealth damage dealer/healer, mixing a rogue and a healer actually sounds like a lot of fun to me.
Combat wise, they took some creative liberties with the tried and true traditional MMO system we've seen - removing the auto attack and giving each clas a number of different play styles. On top of that you can further differentiate your character through companions if you so choose which could enhance your character in combat but even more-so in the world.
The crafting system is one of my favorite parts about the game... not only do you have a number of different items and specializations to craft in, the inclusion of specialty recipes only a handful of players may know on your server, and your companion characters to assist in gathering and crafting, but you have non-crafting abilities that you can skill up with some pretty great rewards.
Player housing on ships, customization of that housing, huge open worlds that not only cater to stories, groups, with worldchanging arcs, but they also cater to exploration which you rarely see in MMOs.
On top of that we have a top notch developer who knows the industry and their demographic. I really don't consider it to be a disaster at all, I think the game will be rather good.

i hated the graphics when i first saw them a couple years ago.
but i have to admit they have improved inmesily. they now compare to any mmo out there with the best graphics.
my concern is and will remain the depth (or lack thereof) of this game; and its endgame.
as well as fixing those clumsy character moves.

No. That said, I'm not convinced by the cover system. |

TOR looks fine, it's just you. I hated it when I saw the huge lightsabers too, but that was a while ago. To pay for play, or pay not for play, that is the question. |

Originally posted by JonnyBigBoss Since it is Bioware I think it will do pretty fine. Sure, there are things that doesn't sound great too me (how the lightsabers work pisses me off, they should work like in the movies and just cut through anything) but Bioware do just like Blizzard know how to sell games. I think many of the casual soloplayers will love the game. I am not so sure about the hardcore raiders. But that is just guesses. I do know that all games Bioware ver made sold from pretty well to great. I am not sure if I will play it myself or not, but hopefully will some open beta testing tell me that. |

Dunno how it will end... It seems like they are trying to make cutscene filled mmo with star wars theme... And thats it basicly. They arent really creating anything new, just enhanching the old with new technology. This apply to all newer and upcoming mmo's. Hell im sure not even GW2 or TERA will be anything different. the best way to kill a troll is to FLAME ON! ...or with acid... |

Bioware / LA and EA are adding all faucets to this game to keep players attention. Because they understand that all player for the first 30 days will grind through the content and when done throw there handes up and say....whats next. And because this game will be super linear this mmo is being made into a super mmo to keep the mass's busy as much as the game will allow. |

{mod edit} The fact they the are planning far more in advance for its launch than most MMO developers with stuff like the Guild Program kinda hints that this won't be a disaster. |

I am probably one of the few who really doesn't like this game, but even after saying that I have no doubt it will be at the very least a reasonable success (250-500K or more subs for at least the first year). Too many people are already invested in this game emotionally to walk away from it and bioware is too solid a company to put out something that is simply unplayable.
It is not my cup of tea, it pretends to offer me choices unlike any other MMO, but then makes sure those choices fit into pretty little pre-established boxes. Like having to be on the Sith Empire side to be a Bounty Hunter. And don't even get me started on the "guise" of freedom contained in dialogue choices.... but with that out of my system, no I don't think it will be a disaster for Bioware. |

Being bioware and star wars it has the potential to be the next big thing. I am looking forward to trying it if I am done with Rift by then. |

Originally posted by kalanthis I liked the cover system in ME1 and ME2. But I have to admit, how will cover be used in open areas, like say, the desert in Tatooine? No possible cover there.

Personally, I like it that the classes aren't generic and accessible for both factions. I got into MMORPG's with EQ and in EQ, DAoC and EQ2 all the classes weren't accessible for all factions, I always found it a typical WoW thing that all the classes suddenly had to be available to both factions. The dialogue choices: hmm, it offers more freedom than standard MMO quests as seen in other MMORPG's. At least you got some freedom to make different choices, instead of the 'accept quest' option that is the only choice you have in other MMORPG's quests. Originally posted by romanator0 While they won't get the nice little bonus that ranged classes get, they could use them for tatical, like getting an enemy away from another group or positioning. That or just hiding for a moment while they recover. Granted the cover system isn't meant for them so they wo'nt get the full advantage as ones who are meant for them, they can still be used in certain situations to their advantage. |

Originally posted by whilan Well, the problem is more that if a class is heavily dependent on cover, then it forces your terrain and game design in a certain way: you can't make vast deserts or wide, open grasslands without having to drop all kinds of cover objects in them.
