Like the concept, uncertain of Funcom after AoC. Hopefully they have learned their lesson. As for the PvP-part, one thing I liked about DAoC was that there was no in-game communication between different factions. No need to ignore people crying after a kill. I would have preferred to have people stick with their 'own' kind, and not the co-op/enemy road. |

Sounds good. We'll see when they release... whenever that is. |

I'm a little concerned about the sizing scale of most of the enemies we see in the videos and screenshots. Hopefully not every enemy is this enormous boss or elite creature that you have to shoot point blank with pistols for 5 minutes while getting hit repeatedly by a club the size of a car for trivial damage. SWTOR seems to have it right by having many weaker enemies to make battles feel more epic, instead of everyone pounding on this single behemoth for two days. I know this game needs hype and hype generally means big things that smash stuff for videos and screenshots, but with luck we will see a lot more reasonably scaled battles. |

Who else got the inner feeling that this title should be called "THE LOVECRAFTIAN DREAM"? |

Um... Kingsmouth is inspired by H.P. Lovecraft... I HOPE. |

Sounds really innovative and fun... however the PvP occuring mainly in instances is a bit alarming though. Hope they manage to tie it to the persistant world in a meaningful way. |

I'm really happy to see some new info available on the game. It's the only upcoming title that I'm interested in. <3 |

3 factions mean nothing if you can only fight in instances. Open world pvp is interesting for me, but only if its not as meaningless as in other games. A pve world where people are pvp flagged, where the pvp-action has no influence on the world and is more or less only random ganking and duels. "Players skill up via experience points, as in a traditional level-based MMORPG. The difference with TSW is that skill points only are rewarded via XP." I dont understand. Where is the difference again ? You do stuff to get XP and you receive skillpoints for XP. So they got rid of levels and replaced it with skillpoints. They also said that your abilities are dependent on your stats. Let me guess... you need skillpoints to wear better items? |

From watching on how funcom handled AoC from its development, its launch, its downfall, its rebirth, and eventual demise again, i would have to say i will definitely be waiting at least 2 months after release before i buy the game. funcom has a lot of GREAT ideas, but their investors have them on such a short leash, that every groundbreaking idea they try to implement always falls one step short because they always hesitate at the last minute and dumb down the plan instead of actually following through with what they had in the first place. thats what i feel is what is going to happen with secret world. they initially have an awesome, groundbreaking idea that could revolutionize the genre, but in the end they will get scared and just turn it into another wow clone with a scifi taste to it to be on the safer side. You need to go ALL IN funcom. Your customers are not stupid. We will know a rushed, garbage game when we see it and you will crash and burn. |

Originally posted by MMO.Maverick Aye, Funcom does have the skill to do things right. Guess we have to see. Since I am quite a fan of this mysic/Lovecraft/conspiracy genre, I am still much looking forward to this. I hope though that it doesn't just boil down to "kill 20 Cthulhus", and there is also some mystery and investigation and making conspiracies. Which, I know, is hard to create and not so likely. But something I'd wish to see in such a game. Holy Trinity who art in our MMORPGs! Blessed be thy speccs, as in WOW so in all MMOs! Our daily loot grant us, and forgive us our noobness, as we forgive the noobs! And do not lead us to disconnects, But deliver us from mediocrity, For thine is the specialization and the teamwork and the endgame, Until cancellation, Amen! |

the game sounds very interesting so far, as long as the combat is not with mouse clicks (attacks mapped to mouse button like vindictus) im completely interested in the game. and the classless style sounds good.... a different way to make characters, not like the typical (already burned out) class focused mmo. i hope funcom makes this game great and dont forget to launch it only when its ready |

Originally posted by Elikal From what I read you also have puzzle/mystery solving mission like Investigation Missions that you can do where you're not doing a kill/fetch quest but are trying to solve a mystery or puzzle solo or with others. Also, from looking at the Tentonhammer gameplay videos there are also all kinds of clues hidden around the world, not directly related to those mystery missions, an example was shown of flocks of ravens that tend to fly towards points of omen or events happening when you scare them away.
The puzzle and mystery missions even scale up to "ARG raids", sort of a metagame where you do out of game searching to solve ingame mysteries. Or as one of the FC guys stated and the Tentonhammer article: "Not sure if it has been mentioned, but another form of "PvP" will be ARG "Raids", where periodically ( monthly or so) Societies will compete to solve an Investigation Mission, and to the victor go the spoils (Society buffs and other rewards)."
"The Secret War – Faction battles will heat up in predetermined settings and rulesets as determined by the fictional Council of Venice, but indirect PvP – society tasks, including diplomatic maneuvers, espionage, backstabbing, and sabotage – will be an ongoing thing." It would be great if they would allow to move freely while shooting / using powers and dodge incoming attacks. Somewhat like GW2 is going to. |

my interest in this game has waned too low... think they've kept it secret too long. i'll probably just stick with swtor when it comes out with lotro as my backup mmo when the inevitable burnout begins. I, Xandir, am on a never ending quest to save my boyfriend! |

The developers aim to have built a totally modern MMO, and not a fantasy game with modern wrapping.
Thats good they are aiming to not make a fantasy game in a shell but with the fireballs and healing abilties it will be hard to see it any other way. I'm not a Lovecraft or whatever fan so maybe thats why I'm not so easily impressed? I've read the article and other SW ones but I'm not getting whats so great about it. Even watched all the videos. The story looks fair but the combat looks boring. I've played though Vampires the Masquerade 3 times and loved it but this resembles current MMORPGs too much for me. |

Looks like a good game but does Funcom have the money to pull off something like this? I mean, this is a MMO set in modern day times and by the looks of it the combat is more then just skill queing.. It's something that hasn't been done which generally equals out to more cash.. And funcom all they got is AOC + AO, do they really have the kind of cash needed to make this game? ![]() Currently Playing: |
