An issue with historical, would be that potential need to create a "What-If?" scenario so that it was outside of the witnessed historical timeframe. Otherwise, you know what happens. Then to an extent, it becomes a themed 3D chatroom. Then again, many of the games feel that way, do they not? Costumed 3D chatrooms in themeparks. So perhaps, they would fit right in. Regardless of the genre, if it is a story where you are a passenger - you are still a passenger. I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again? Really? Anything but fantasy.
I voted cyberpunk. Always read the small print. |

Originally posted by VirusDancer True, true...but I think if done correctly, a game set in say medieval times could work. It doesn't have to be set in our medieval times though, it just needs to be themed as such. No magic, no dragons, no eleves, fairies...just a medieval sim. You know, castles, fiefs, peasants, knights, ladies, lords, barrons, that sorta stuff. Think EVE, but in a medieval setting. ![]() |

HIstory... with some twists? Chances to go back and re-write some key points in history? See what the world might have been like if 'the other guys' would've won this war or that war? Could be interesting.

Historical is fun. It doesn't have to be isolated to one event however, and it can be combined with other genres. Age of Empires 2 is a good example at combining historical elements with other things. |

I voted Cyberpunk, but the H.P. Lovecraft 30s setting horror game sound like a great game also. The only thing that would worry me about a horror MMO is that you can bet your ass, with the developer climate the way it is they would want to tap into that "Twilight teen crowd" and that would be a real horror game. |

Shadowrun, Shadowrun, Shadowrun...
Oddly, my other favorite would be MMORPG, would be from the same pen and paper company, and that is Mechwarrior, done well. Both titles are so righteously fucked over in copywrite ownership, I have little hope of ever seeing either one. |

I voted "other" because I would mainly be interested in a horror themed mmorpg. 1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical. 2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself. 3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose. |

I would love an mmorpg of setting like Assassin's Creed, combining the Medivial setting with the modern world setting. A combat system where tactical approach is required,.......and who doesn't like climbing buildings and jump off it lol. How much WoW could a WoWhater hate, if a WoWhater could hate WoW? |

I chose other because I'm looking for an MMO that clearly doesn't think about genre at all, a world with a theme, that is later defined by others as part of a genre. It's clear more and more MMOs are just generic fantasy worlds, in reality the other genres are just as generic, but since they aren't as abundant nobody notices as much. However to be realistic: I haven't seen any good Horror MMOs, so I guess that would be my first choice. My second would be a realistic evolution like one, like Spore, or something similar.
