What other races do you think should be in game? MMOs played:SWG,NGE,Warhammer, World of Warcraft, Star Trek Online,Eve, Star Wars the Old Republic. |

Most star wars games i've played (granted they weren't a lot) had you playing as a human, or something dangerously close to one. I think SWG was the exception but you can do that in a sandbox where things like story and such don't really get in the way much. Devs stated the reason you (thats you as in the people who will play) won't be playing as something non-humanoid is the human inability to connect with your character culture and the like, and to understand the reasons things are happening. Races like wookies and trandoshan, may have cultures and such that make it difficult to understand why something that might seem okay in human standards might be a big no-no in their culture and may get an "unexpected" result. Thats their reasoning, although i put it in my own words and may have expounded on it a bit. This is about as far as your going to get at release. You'll probably get more race/class combos but i highly doubt you will get more races and all the classes are revealed already.
You will however have companions and they can be non-human. You have driods, trandoshan, wookies, and all the other alien races are possible as well. To be clear they aren't saying you can pre-make your companions and have any race you want. Just the restriction to humanoid is lifted when it comes to companions. Help me Bioware, your my only hope. I have to agree with Hekke29. I have no problems with human-like playable races, but I am not keen on non-human-like races. Now for NPC's, ?I would saw anything goes. Might even be kind of cool having a young Hutt as a companion. "If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?" |

it is kinda a bummer i can see why they did it for the story sake, but maybe thats an inherent flaw in the overall balance - star wars story (historically) vs. swtor story naturally people may wish to play other races and won't be able to; and i don't know if you'll be able to "drain" that historical assumption many people will have when approaching the game just cuz if it is a naturaly problem in the game the players (by and large) won't be willing to share the burden of such an imbalance and the game will suffer - only super die-hard fans share that imbalance, and that usually leads to a very unhealthy and mean community (name a failed game and you'll know what i mean). |

I think once you get your character up, get into the story, make friends, all that jazz, theres a good chance they simply won't care. So what theres a ton of races? i like my X anyway.
