Originally posted by Excalaber2 Yes, you will run into a TON of people multi-boxing (generally the old-school crowed). For a LOT of people, multiboxing is REALLY a way to punch our old experience with the game in the face to make it fun again for us.
Remember how you had to sit there for hours to get into a good group? Multi-box 3 toons and make your own group, shazam...your experience is now 3x more fun.
I myself plan to multi-box 3 toons, and when my group isn't full I'll specifically look for people to fill the last 3 so I can help them level and socialize like in the "old days". Complaining about someone else's enjoyment is rather silly. The only thing I can't stop giggling about is EC tunnel will be used again as a player-run anti-afk bazaar :D!
Like a poster somewhere above me mentioned, I PRAY the community comes together and continues to downVote going past Velious for at least 90 to 120days (3 to 4 months) rather than 60days. The Theory of Conservative Conservation of Ignorant Stupidity: |

Why would anyone want to play grindquest after all this time, the only game that makes you wait in line for 10+ hours just to get certain low level stuff. DOn't get me wrong, I do miss EQ, but that game consumed my life |

Graphics have been revamped & upgraded for newer content from the past few years. However, when it comes to the progression server, what you see at the beginning will contain old classic graphics. For the most part it's what players wanted, they wanted to go back to see say, Kelethin...and see it exactly how they remembered it from 1999. So SOE didn't touch the starting cities except for Freeport. Sorry humans, you'll hate the new freeport since they managed to make an already twisty city into a darn maze lol.
So if you're looking for new graphics, you'll want to play on the regular servers as they'll showcase the better, updated graphics. If you go on the progression server, note that initially you won't see the newer graphics since the older expansion zones have been for the most part untouched for nostalgia. Eventually though, as expansions open up, you will see the newer zones and newer graphics.
I do believe they'll leave the new Commonlands, Sro, Freeport, etc.. in at launch so you can head over there and see the updated zone graphics from them. EQ1-AC1-DAOC-FFXI-L2-EQ2-WoW-DDO-GW-LoTR-VG-WAR |

Originally posted by pixeldogmeat I kindda like the grind, it is a nice way to relax for me. It also consumed my life at a point, but I am older and I know what the game is now so I might just enjoy it more rather than beeing .. hmm elitist? |

EQ back in the days killed me. But now 11 years later, honestly I know what's right & what's wrong. So as long as you know when to call it quits each night, and know when it's too much, I don't see why you can't go back to the game you once enjoyed. Even with all the things devs have tweaked to make TLP server more "classic-like", the game still isn't going to be as tedious as before.
There won't be hell levels, no starring at the spellbook to med, no dropping items on the corpses, and the progression to receiving new expansions isn't nearly as long as it was back in the days. So you'll be getting a less tediouis EQ, more content, faster paced, but still be able to enjoy the fun of the newbie rush, the community, seeing all the old school zones and laugh at how they used to be the most awesome things evah, etc.. Good times imo
Personally I can't wait to hop into Plane of Fear and get rocked again. Or the thing I'm looking forward to the most in Kunark expansion... Sebilis! EQ1-AC1-DAOC-FFXI-L2-EQ2-WoW-DDO-GW-LoTR-VG-WAR |

I really hope to see newbies on this server. I suggest someone with better typing skill than be, try and make a well written article that explains the core features of eq, what it is and what it isnt. Why grind is not just a bad thing, why the great things weigh more than the poor features, and generally help newbies along. No opinions, just facts about the game so newbies can decide whether it will be a game for them. There is so much information and love/hate that if I were a newbie, I would not understand what eq really is. |

I played the Realm, Meridian, UO DAoC etc. I only ever tried Everquest during the beta for a few levels. I saw it was a grind right off the top and also saw how addicted I would become to it. I stuck with UO.
I will be joining as a total noob! Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is! |

Borek made this site, the newbie zone FAQ. It's got good & updated information to chew on while you contemplate on trying EQ or coming back. It explains a lot of the basic features offered in Everquest, and information on what each expansions brought to the game.
Here's also a good chronology of EQ expansions, although it stopped being updated in 2007. But still, good information for the earlier expansions. Since the TLP server will have expansions open gradually, I figure some may be interested in seeing what comes next. EQ1-AC1-DAOC-FFXI-L2-EQ2-WoW-DDO-GW-LoTR-VG-WAR |

Also I wont be joining, augments at server release? also a cash shop.... and this was supposed to be time locked only why are guilds able to progress the advancement of the servers period. Also they said after a while a vote could change by player vote to make expansions open up faster. No thanks $OE youve ruined to many games was gonna check this out but not now. Lets see what youve ruined so far... star wars galaxies, vanguard by not supporting the players and community no updates etc and its a hell of a game the true successor to eq 1, eq2 charging players to buy a race when they already pay 15$ a month... |

Fun stuff. I am definitely thinking about coming back for this. |

You want a tank in your setup, because you won't have access to mercenaries until SoD expansion opens and that'll be quite awhile. You definitely also want a healer, I'd still go with a cleric just because clerics had the best heals early on. Shamans were much needed for their slow, but their heals did not compare to cleric heals, and they don't have 96% rez. Enchanter will be awesome early on, since mezzing & charming were very powerful and needed in the early EQ. Plus their crack, ability to slow & haste...oh my. Tough choices, but if you really want to 3 box, make sure you got the holy trinity in there EQ1-AC1-DAOC-FFXI-L2-EQ2-WoW-DDO-GW-LoTR-VG-WAR |

If bst were available: BST+CLE+MAG (BST must be well geared, but mage stun pet helps alot, and good dps so you finish off mobs quicker, saving healer mana. Cant tank real hard stuff but when boxing I guess you wont be? but with 4 boxees, I would go for a real tank). Some dont like boxers and I understand the reasons, so when I box I try to stick to priorities that goes: I will drop my boxing session to help friends/guildies. I will try and invite LFG people, even if it means I have to dump one of my boxees. I will have a main, and raid with my main only and not boxed unless the raid required it (generally). |

Even then they let the players vote on if they want to open up the next one or not. Have you not followed the official forums and these forums for the past few years? Everyone has been clamoring for a classic server, nobody will be voting to shorten the progression rate that's for sure. If anything players will band together to vote on keeping the server classic for as long as they can. |
