A bit of a quandery here.
As the chief admin at a very popular enforced roleplay game I wonder what you think of Holiday Events. As Christmas, Hannakah and Festivus close in, the plan is to have winter holiday events in the two major cities with things similar to xmas trees and presents (no lame santa claus or the like), but I alway have trepidation at doing such things. We always keep things in genre, but there seems to be some hardcore roleplayers that take issue with it.

Well i would say go for it , as long it stays within the genre . Its always nice for players to get involved , just dont throw the greed card .. by offering something special that blows those hardcore extremist into a nerd rage .
If greed card (items special bla bla) are thrown around , warn the population before hand . Then the hardcore can make up there mind , willing to eat there pride or really not willing to participate.
Dont forget ,for some christmas was never christmas , it was a forced social event . So create a fun atmosfeer and enough will participate . |

It all depends on the game and the playerbase. This sounds like a question your marketing and community teams would be best qualified to answer. Is this for an existing game or the MUD you are working on? filmoret: One thing I have never figured out is why the game devs hardly ever fix simple problems that arise. It is like they don't care about the pvp community. Nitth: What makes you so sure its a simple fix? filmoret: Because most of them are. Sometimes its just changing a number in a code string other times its creating a few variables. However none of them should take over a few hours of coding. |
Originally posted by drake_hound Thanks. We are steering away from the greed card and rather making the items more roleplay involved and in genre which is the basis of the game being enforced roleplay. Due to your input the playerbase will be forwarned and know it is a winter event not "xmas" as there is no xmas on this world. Originally posted by Loktofeit The game is roleplay enforced and the playerbase is pretty hard core roleplayers so that is why the question was posed in this section.
As for our marketing and community, the feed back has always been mostly leaning toward the events, however, we had to remove some events because of negative feedback on them not being serious enough (the feedback was only from 20 percent of the playerbase but that is enough to warrant removal). I branched out to those who do not know the game at all for unbiased feedback so I really appreciate your responses.
The game is existing presently and is considered the number one enforced roleplaying game of it's genre (in terms of playerbase and status).
As a side note, I love your signature. Sarcastic truth to be sure. TORG - Text Only Roleplaying Game, the only way to go. http://www.ateraan.com |

Thanks for the input. So far the players are loving the events that we have scheduled and put into place. I mean, nothing bad about a winter tree and presets, eh? TORG - Text Only Roleplaying Game, the only way to go. http://www.ateraan.com |
