My Budget is roughly about $650 dollars.

I found this computer

VPCY2190X | VAIO® VPCY2190X Configure-to-Order | Sony | Sony Style USA

Decked out with the

Intel® Core™ i5-430UM processor (1.20GHz) with Turbo Boost up to 1.73GHz

4GB (2GBx2) DDR3-SDRAM-800

ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4550 GPU (512MB VRAM)

13.1 Inch which makes it super portable, as well as only 3.9lb.

as well as a durable Magnesium casing and the quality backing of a Sony product behind it, for a total of $669.

I think this is roughly the best laptop I can find for the price.

Whatever I decide ill be buying tomorrow by mid night so please let me know if you guys know of a better deal out there for what I am looking for.

Mainly this computer will be general multimedia machine, some mid range - low end gaming, video watching, school, but most importantly of all this laptop has 7 hours (claimed) battery life on the standard battery. (Realistically according to most its like 5.5 hours) still thats very good for my daily computing needs.

I have looked at many Netbooks for similar prices and only 1lb lighter, and this seems to have far superior hardware in all forms. Still though a member here on my other post informed me about some new changes being made to netbooks which I am also considering on the back of my mind as well.

Ultra portable laptops seem to be more like something I could work more productively with though..At least from my current impressions.

I would be willing to consider any laptop that has stupendous build quality like Sony laptops and are between $600-$750 in price. My 2 main concerns are Battery life, and portability, followed by multimedia functionality.

The few gaming that will be done on this machine is mostly low end games but basically what I am looking for here is an all purpose computer ultra light portable sturdy, long battery life, AND stylish. :P

Good hardware, but Sony is a bitch of a company to deal with, and I really wouldn't recommend anything from them. Simple things such as tracking down drivers can sometimes prove impossible when they block you from installing them on other OS versions, or if for some reason they don't detect your computer as being a sony.

I myself am happy with the acer aspire one 521 I got. It was 339, 40 bucks for a 2 gig of ddr 3 1600.

Definitely not near the same hardware, but it has a radeon hd 4225 in it, which is good enough for me to play any of the games I want to play. (Eve, WoW, TF2, L4D, etc)

Gave up on a netbook and decided to get something that is actually functional instead?

You should be warned that Sony disables video driver updates.

Are you saying that Sony does not update any of its graphic drivers for its systems at ALL? or they are just slow about it?

I am looking at the Sony official driver site,

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VPCY2190X&SelectOS=45

And Yeah I can't find any drivers for the

ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4550 GPU

That comes with this computer.

I then attempted to find them on the AMD website but the site said the drivers they have for it are not compatible with Sony Vaio notebooks and to contact Sony...is this what your talking about?

So people with sony computers never get driver updates? How does everyone who buys a Vaio let that go?

Ya know whats kinda sad...spent almost 2 weeks doing research and came to the conclusion that possibly the best choice is a god damn Macbook -_-

If you're looking for portability, power, and a low price, then you're really looking for the impossible. Yes, you could get a Macbook, as you suggest, but that's always $1000 for the absolute cheapest one. At the price point, you could get something enormously more powerful with much better features.

I'm not sure why you need such long battery life. If you're willing to toss that aside, then you could do fairly well for yourself. Honestly, I have an Asus N61JQ, and it sucks down battery like crazy, but even taking it everywhere I go (a 6lb notebook really isn't that much of a burden), including school, I never run into any problems. Sure, the battery life is only three hours, even stretching it as far as I can, but no class I take is longer than three hours, and it's very rare that there's no ability for me to sit within reasonable distance of a wall outlet to begin with.

Do you really think that you're going to be going more than three hours with no access to any kind of power source on a regular basis? Most people don't. If you're really going to spend the money required to get any kind of Macbook why not get this instead? It's not very large, with only a 15.6' screen, has oodles of computing power, gets an acceptable 2-3 hours of battery life and best of all, has a 1680x1050 screen (1366x768 screens just suck, and avoiding them where possible is always good). MSI packs way too much hardware in there for the machine's own good, but with a 3 year warranty, it's not like they aren't backing it confidently in terms of reliability.

It's just a thought. If, on the other hand, you need ultra portability and long battery life, then yes, that Sony is the best machine available at that price most likely. Just keep in mind that non-intensive games are the only think you'll be running on that on anything but the absolute lowest settings. According to notebookcheck.net, the 4550 really just isn't a very fast chip at all. It gets about 1000 in 3dMark Vantage, just to give an idea (a high end mobile card scores about 6000-8000 these days, and a midrange chip about 3000-4000).
