Is is just me or do others feel that Blizzard "RUINED" each expansion that came before with a new one ? I mean, you work very hard raiding, doing areana and BG's for that epic gear, only to have a new ex-pac come out and wash all that hard work down the drain on your very first quest that gives you a green item as a reward. Why do they have to have all the gear levels just blow the last games gear away .. I know i will have to replace that hard earned gear eventually but after the first quest? Shouldn't that hard earned epics at least be worth Blue or green gear at level 85? Why the HUGE leap for HP and gear levels after the first quest ? Im so tired of feeling like they dont care about what they put out before and that all my hard work goes for nothing as soon as they come out with another expansion. I can't think of any other game that does this. I wish Earth Rise was launching when they said it would in Q4 =( |

It's a good way to get new players to catch up. Consider it a "game reset". |

I don't mind it and it does not seem as bad this time. Maybe I have been unlucky in drops but I still have 3 or 4 pieces from wrath on at 84. Also once a new player reaches 85 no they will not be caught up as by then you will most likely be in the 85 raid gear so they are still behind. Raiders seem to always get upset every expansion when their epeens get deflated for a few weeks. |

I was mainly talking about the "hard work" stuff you have been going on about...You will change your gear at 81 so what, will it hurt your ego if you see another "noob" wearing the same gear as you? Do you want everyone else to see what you achieved until you hit max lvl? All MMOs are like that when a new expansion releases, if you change your gear at 81 or 85 makes little difference. They gave you achievements and their dates to brag about and grow your e-peen. That's more than enough. |

All achievements have a date on them. Sure someone at 85 will be able to drop the lich king on 25 man heroic.. but everyone can see that it is post cataclysm. Also, I mean do you really think that someone is going to raid for a full set of old gear? Many of my guild mates keep their old epic sets to wear not and again in town so show they are old school and achieved at a high level pre expansion.

No, all games are not like that, ive played lineage II , EQII and more that have had a lot of expansions come out and none of them ruin the game before by bloated stats on gear,
and its not even close to the last game, you go from 9k HP with the regular game, then go to 20+ with burning, then 50+ with northrend, now i see mages with over 95+ HP after just 5 more levels its over blown the way they have the new stats after every expac |

But I understand your point. It's kinda silly to have quest gear to surpass your epic set :/ But it's their way to keep the treadmill going for another 2 years. |

Who did wrong? The advertiser hired to sell the game or the consumer who put faith in advertising? |

Originally posted by Mischiff Did you have fun doing that? If so, they assume you will have fun doing it again. Or you can look at it your way and be sour, personally, I am looking forward to having more fun acquiring epics - that's kinda the basis for 'fun' at the max level. |

u dont get it yet, i dont mind and i know ill have to replace stuff, its that i dont feel i should replace stuff after the first quest, its like all that work for nothing, and its what it is, .. this game is starting to feel like its for little kids and they dont care the work you have put into things. |

World of Warcraft was a great MMO before any of the expansions were released. I remember when BC hit the market, which I was excited for, and then I realized WoW no longer felt the same. BC eventually made me quit. When WotLK released I tried it out on my brothers account and again it made me feel like Blizzard was changing WoW too much. I miss the early days of WoW but I will never go back because of the expansions. |

I went through pretty much this same thing with the original Everquest, if not worse. The top raid content at the time was Nagafen, Vox, Plane of Fear and Plane of Hate. I used to spend *entire* weekends doing this stuff. It was incredibly sad, and something I really regret, but I was a kid and this was a whole new genre so I didn't really know any better - and besides, everyone else was in the same boat too. I played with some real life friends, and we would go up to the plane of hate on a Friday evening. We would wipe a million times trying to break it. Eventually we would make it, and we would spend the entire night, like 18 hours or something working our way through with the raid. We were sat in the corner praying that a piece of loot would drop. We would go to bed and wake up and do the same on the saturday and then the same on the sunday. Some weekends we would get no loot at all, sometimes just one piece. It took months of doing this for me to finally get my full set of awesome gear, and planar weapons and stuff. I was basically in the top 3 players of my class on the server, and it felt great. I strutted around the normal world like a god, being able to destroy stuff. Anyway, eventually the expansion Kunark came out, and everything I painstakingly worked for became pretty much obsolete immediately. I was really miffed about it, and it was sad to see trash loots dropping that were comparable to what used to be special. I then realised that there was just another whole new bunch of tedious raid content that I would have to go through all over again if I wanted to get the best stuff. In the end I just quit instead, and I'm glad I did. |

Originally posted by qwert666 What are you talking about? Kunark came out and it didn't ruin old weapons and armor imemediately. Name one level 50 item that was better than the planar gear when kunark came out. If anything people were fighting in Kunark Castle and Sebilis for endish gear. And that stuff wasn't even that decent. Most of the Armor sets in Kunark had only AC with a right click ability. Whoop de do! There are items and weapons that I kept thru the Kunark expansion all the way thru to the Vellious expansions and so on. Ala Manastone, Epic weapon, Fungi Tunic, 7 string lute, Amulet of Necropotence..... on and on and on......... To the OP ... That was my one huge problem with WoW. I quit ages ago but I remember alot of people got really geared up before burning crusade came out. That Trident thing or whatever, and soon as burning crusade comes out green con weapon drops and your like wtf.... all that tier stuff armor is just a waste compared to it. I came back during the lich king expansion and my cousin was pretty decked out from burning crusade and I figured they wouldnt mess up people like that again with having worthless teir armor compared to a green con pile... and what did i hear in my ventrillo when we did one quest in northrend..... GOD DAMN BLIZZARD DID ALL THAT WORK And a stupid green con BP is better than my tier set. Sadness.... nothing new pretty much knew cataclysm was gonna do that. And to those of you saying how are the lowbies gonna catch up to the high end gear people theres gear out there just dont make a simple green pile of junk be better than a purple from the previous expansions. |

Originally posted by rygar218 Ok, well with my Bard, my planar armor had quite nice stats, but ultimately they weren't very useful. The Singing Steel armor that was dropping all over the place in Kunark had significantly better AC which made it a better set to work towards. Not only that but the Bard weapons weren't that great either, and with the introduction of Epics they made them completely obsolete. The fact is, expansions made old content obsolete. Not just the loots you worked hard towards getting, but the old zones too. By the time it reached Planes of Power, most of the classic old zones were completely empty, and people were giving the once amazing Ykesha to their pets for kicks. SOE did a really crappy job of all this, but it's pretty much just the way these games work. It would take some really intelligent design to do a good job of it. |

Originally posted by qwert666 Well considering im a fellow bard and I know exactly what your talkin about. I can fully say this. With your last post you make it sound as if Singing steel was rainning everywhere. Now granted when the kunark expansion came out they did increase the drop rates on all mobs and stuff. However the stuff that was dropping was good for mid levels not guys who were level 50 and fully decked out from the planes. The drops were random items here and there to get people to shift to kunark however the only stats on Singing steel were on the Legs and the BP the rest was pure AC with a right click ability. For god sakes people were still using flowing black silk sashes when kunark came out. And necros giving thier pets ykseshas that was well into vellious. Epic weapons were in Kunark not to mention Bards kept Singing Steel Swords all the way up to planes of power until epics 2.0 came out...... anything else? |

It's the EQ system and it's been used by most of the big MMOs. AoC is the only recent big one I can think of that tried to break the mold by expanding outwards instead of up.
