Executive Producer Dan Stahl checks in as we prepare to debut Season Two: Ancient Enemies. Greetings! Season 2: Ancient Enemies is here, and we have a lot to talk about! Not only are we releasing our second major update to the game, but we are also about to turn the corner on our six month anniversary. So before we get into what the team has been working on for Season Two, let’s talk about what we’ve done with the game in the last six months. The First Six MonthsThe release schedule for Star Trek has always been aggressive, and in the first six months after launch the team hasn’t showed any signs of slowing down. Since launch, there have been features and tweaks that we (and you) wanted in the game. Over the course of Season One, we have been delivering regular updates to the game at a breakneck pace. Not only have we delivered these features, but in our regular Engineering Reports, we discussed that we were working on these features and took your feedback into consideration while developing them. Here’s a list of features and updates that we added to the game during our first six months:
What’s amazing to me is those are just highlights. A quick browse through our Release Notes Archive can give you a complete overview of all the changes the team has made in our first Six months. Many of the features we’ve worked on are directly related to your requests and feedback. When we said at launch that we wanted to make this your game, we meant it. We may not have unlimited resources or be able to address every request immediately, but we certainly take note of everything and discuss what you are talking about internally as a team. This game has had a solid heading since launch: deliver the Star Trek MMO that you want to play. Season TwoThat is also why I find Season Two so exciting. It is a further step toward delivering the content and features that you’ve been asking for. For example ... After Season One there was a complaint that while there were a ton of features, there was not much in the way of new content. Our response? Season Two contains new PvE missions across the board and a commitment to provide weekly mission series moving forward. Another example ... After we announced that Klingon faction would be primarily PvP at launch, you asked us to change this and add PvE content for the KDF. Our response? Season One contained PvE Star Clusters, equal access to Borg hub PvE missions and STFs, and PvE Fleet Actions. And in Season Two we'll start delivering the first Klingon-faction-specific PvE episode arcs, with a commitment that when we create weekly series content, that will be playable by all factions. Those are just two examples out of many where you have had a direct impact on the development of this game. Season Two is filled with additional features and updates that you asked for, and in some cases even helped us design, specifically minigames. Here are some upcoming features in Season Two:
And that is just the beginning of Season Two. In the coming weeks you are going to see additional updates that continue to show the direction we are heading with the game. You are going to see new ships ,such as the Nebula and Excelsior refits for the Federation, and the Vor’Cha, D7 and Be’rel refits for the Klingons. You’re going to see new off-duty costumes such as mercenary wear and formal wear. We’ve even got some new beasts that will be showing up in missions (all designs based on a poll we recently posted on the forums). Weekly SeriesI’m really looking forward to this! Even with everything else in the works, the upcoming Weekly Series has me the most excited. Starting in August, we will be releasing the first in what we hope to be many weekly series. These are small mission arcs focused around a single story, where each week a new episode in the story will become available. Any player at any level will have equal opportunity to play this new content. With new rewards and side missions to go along with these weekly missions, we hope that you’ll find a compelling reason to log in and check out the latest episode each week. What About The Next Six Months? We hear you loud and clear that there are features and designs in the game that need to be revamped, polished and in some cases outright fixed. So in addition to working on some new features that we’re going to keep mum about for the time being, we are going to be going back through the game as it is now and addressing these issues. This includes and is not limited to things like ...
That is just the beginning. You are going to see us start focusing on quality and ensuring that we take the time to make the features in game as awesome as you want them to be. Which leads me to ... Being The New Executive ProducerIt is an honor and a thrill to be in the position where we can work together to make this MMO the ultimate Star Trek game. We have had a great start and improved in many areas. There is so much more we can and need to do. I’m very happy with the team we have, and when I look at the plans we have in the works, I’m confident that you’re going to like where we’re headed. I have that confidence because I will continue to listen to your feedback and ensure that we are on track to continually improve this game. Your confidence in me is a boon and I plan to honor that respect. In the words of Bartles and James ... “Thank you for your support.” -dStahl
ok, really? stuff i highlighed in red should have been in game at release stuff in yellow was to try to fix something that was missing or didnt work at release stuff in green i actually consider a legitimate improvement for a 6 month old game
honestly.... the games still not release worthy and this idiot issues a wall of text about how they have added a lot of stuff that should have been in at launch??????? at least he didnt mention all the c-store content as being a feature! First off, I agree that STO is a pile of poo, but feel CO is a solid game. With that out of the way... They posted positive numbers and an increase in subs. No matter the feeling on these forums, the poor reviews, or my own personal disgust with the status of STO, they are doing far better than any of us would think. Now I think most, if not all, of the new subs are with CO rather than STO, but regardless the doom and gloom predictions just got kicked in the rear. Apparently the Star Trek IP is enough to make people overlook the games issues, so perhaps they do have some bragging rights, even if it is just due to proving the rest of us wrong. |

It's hard to tell are you talking about champions or STO as far as the increased subs? I'd heard CO has had something of a comeback since VB. As far as STO goes, time will tell. BTW whatever happened to the whole advisory council thing? There was a big uproar and then it disappeared. |

STo isnt half as bad as people on forums, especially these forums make it out to be. And as far as what SHOULD have been in at luanch, that's purely opinion and nothing more. None of the added it stuff was promised at launch. And if you don't like the game or play it, why did you make this post? Just to troll a game YOU don't like? Need ot remember just because you don't like something, doesnt meant no one else does there, kid. |

Awwww, c'mon - cut him some slack - read like he was surprised as anybody else was that the game was still around six months later... I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again? Explorer: 87%, Killer: 67%, Achiever: 27%, Socializer: 20% |

Just more of the same complete BS from him as we've seen from him before he got the promotion. The guy is a bigger tool than Zinc was. At least you got the sense that Zinc actually believed half the BS he spewed. This guy just smugly craps all over the genre with a big smile on his face. |

Originally posted by Gdemami yes it is my opinion, which doesnt make it wrong, and youll find that most people happen to agree with me that almost all of what has been added to sto in the first six months of its life have been things that were missing or broken... that should have been in at launch. your correct this would be excellent work by the devs.... if this game were still in beta. well done? well i guess cryptic has proven that there really is one born every minute. the truly sad part is that it will be at least 6 months more before the game will be in decent release shape (thats assuming they plan on finishing the klingon faction). what a horrible waste of one of the best ip's out there. Someone has to pat Craptic on the back , it might as well be themselves . No critc in his right mind would go on record and risk reputation , much less his integrity and endorse this pile. ( STO ) The real issue is that Craptic , created a single player game with the option of playing with other players, up to 5 people. Sound familar ? It should it was the same joke they called CoX , and labeled that as an MMO. Yeah , there'll be those that say well you're playing with and against other players , yes. I can also do the same thing on a LAN or in an FPS online and it would have more depth , and entertainment value. Craptic has lost crediblity and is now attempting to jam as much content in as they can and milk the remaining player base of it's cash throught the C-Store as it is able. They understand that once SW:ToR hits , the playerbase population will plummet. The hope is and the strategy that by that point they will have enough content to go F2P , modeled after Turbines DDO. They will ignore bugs and other minor issues in this case to achieve this end. The idea is that once they reach that point , they can correct issues at a slow pace while actually making more money. A which new content such as races , ships , maps etc... will actually cost more then the $ 19.99 , that the game currently costs . This should make for interesting reading if you'd like to see what's ahead for STO. http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/dungeons-dragons-online-eberron-unlimited/1109214p1.html |

Opinions may be wrong and your opinion is one of them. Cryptic did a lot of solid work to be proud of and brag about, that is hardly something to discuss. Whether it had to be done before release, is only your subjective perception - no fact and meaningless to any objective consideration of the game. Opinion does not make the game. IP cannot be wasted.
You do not like the game? Fine, move along then. No game is for everyone and there is absolutely no point in your hate/troll/spam type of posting. There is nothing to discuss here but you and your emo rage. |

Originally posted by Gdemami Look when things are just a matter of opinion we might have seen something like half of the people that bought the game leave before the first paid month, but a hell of a lot more than half of the people that bought the game walked (actually ran is more like it) away. In truth most people left.
So yes there's a lot that many wish to discuss, and will keep discussing, because that's what's needed to try and put a stop to rotten companies like Cryptic ripping people off. Voicing our experiences and the facts about the game, and warning others off, is the only avenue we gamers have to "police" these companies. Shoddy and dishonest companies like Cryptic rely on people that are dissatisfied with a substandard product just quietly slinking off and moving on. They also rely on zipperheads to make posts defending them and saying things like "Well if you don't like how they ripped you off then just move on".
Cryptic thinks that eventually this is all going to blow over and be forgotten, but as clearly evidenced by another thread on this board, people aren't going to forget and/or forgive. Hopefully if we can keep it up more will walk away from the game too. I know I'll never stop dropping in to various sites to warn others off of STO and any other game Cryptic is involved with. Not until the lights get turned off there anyway. |

Opinion about opinions? Do you have any data to back up your claims?
There might be a lot to discuss, this type of posting does not make it though. Opinions are not subject for discussion in most cases, it is the arguments supporting the opinion that can be discussed. It is only your personal opinion, invalid though, that they are 'ripping you off', fair enough, move on then. You might have made a bad bargain according to your expectations but that's it. Everyone does bad bargain once in a while resulting in a disappointment but that is again, private matter and does not speak for the game much, least the company.
Confession to heretic trolling... |

In before the "should have been in at launch" crowd. Oh wait.............nevermind.
Fact is Cryptic messed up by rushing the dev cycle. They will NEVER admit that it was wrong. It goes against human nature to admit failure. But one thing does seem clear: they are intent on adding, polishing, creating content for people who play the game, even thought it may be years before it lives up to what "you" thought should be in at launch. Cryptic has every right to brag about what they've done to the game since launch, regardless of what you or I think should have been in at launch. At least they are still working on it and they didn't roll over and die like everyone thought they should. I'm really not sure what the point of the OP is here, besides trolling of course. Its been 6 months, let it go! Cryptic didn't rape your sister, kill your dog, burn your house or steal your money. Wait, nevermind that last one, its kinda subjective. I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil |
