For a moment, when I read the title to this thread I thought to myself, "Is SWTOR coming out tomorrow?"

This is not directed solely at Lienhart; it's for anyone in favor of real ID on forums.

We all have the option to reveal our real names and addresses and phone numbers and whatever info we want.  We can do it already.  Those of you who think it's such a great idea, why don't you put your real names and addressess in a signature and lead by example?  If it's such a great idea why aren't you already doing it?

sc2 is innovative in many ways. that being said, all the excitement is because of:

- mass player-directed marketing through youtube replays

- balanced pvp (pretty much nonexistent in the multiplayer world) = unlimited content

- ridiculous map editor potential

- success of sc1

- fun gameplay; hands down the best strategy game since sc1, with wc3 being a close third. and i played them all

everything came together for blizzard. most importantly they listened to the player base 100% during beta which led to a more or less perfectly balanced game for release

When SC2 was announced I was pumped. Until I got into the beta, that is. SC2 is the same exact game as SC1 with updated graphics, and costing $60 (potentially $180) more than the SC1 game that I already own. If you play RTS competitively, you'll probably want to pick up SC2 to have other competitive gamers to play with. If not? Just play SC1. Same game.

similar game. sc2 being more streamlined in every possible way. the Korean demi-gods have stated themselves that they forsee a complete sc2 switchover.

Yeah, you're not a Blizzard fanboy or anything.

Do you honestly believe SC was better than Age of Empires 2? Seriously?

Streamlined in every way possible? Care to elaborate?

And as I said in my post, competitive gamers will probably switch to SC2 just to continue to play with other competitive gamers. However, the majority of the people Blizzard want to sell this to are not competitive gamers.

That being said, Blizzard doesn't give a shit that they aren't getting my $60. They are going to be laughing all the way to the bank with the millions of dollars they make from updating graphics on a 12 year old game.

Yes.

And everyone in Korea agrees.

Pretty much this. SC was never the best RTS anyway. It was fairly primitive and broken compared to many others.

AOEII and AOK were some of my favourite titles. however, SC's longevity,  population and presence in competitive gaming (hint: balanced pvp) speak for themselves. SC2 is basically a better version of the first. not gonna write a dissertation about why this is so...you shoulda tried the beta i guess. there were lots of keys out there.

fanboy of blizz i am definitely not considering how much i loathe WoW and WC3, but i will not deny that they are good at designing games and listening to tester feedback (in sc2 beta anyway). being all rebellious and keeping your $60 is fine. but theres nothing wrong with paying a reasonable price for a very good service. your opinions on sc2 are based on misinformation and strong bias it seems because if you actually bothered to look up what the game offers for $60, you wouldnt be singing this tune.

Actually, the only reason either of us buys RTS games is so we can have something to play together.  That being the case we usually make a joint decision on  whether or not to buy a RTS game.  But I know he's really been wanting this so there is good chance I'll end up buying it one way or the other.

I don't really give a damn about the length of the single player campaigns so that thing about selling three separate discs at $60 each sounds like a hell of rip off scam to me and know my friend won't like it either when I tell him about it.

Someone said you don't get all the protoss and zerg units untill you buy the additional discs so it sounds like you're kinda screwed if you don't and that just puts the cherry on top of the scam in my mind.

I'll talk it over with him and see if he is as disgusted with that crap as I am.

sc2 is most bang for the buck since Global Agenda. if you like playing RTS and are not buying sc2, you are robbing yourself of a fun experience. however, life will go on. i respect moral choices just like i respect people's decisions to not eat meat for example.

I'm worried less about them making you to buy 3 games to compete in the Multiplayer, which is what the game is all about.

I'm worried about this "Marketplace" for additional maps...

You're worried that blizz might actually recoup some of the millions they've spent on making sc2?

Like it or dislike it that's ok but you lost all credibility saying Starcraft was broken. They're still patching the game to improve performance with new OS's. No RTS has ever recieved as much developer support as Starcraft. Hell no other game has ever recieved that much support. It has run smoothly on a wider variety of systems, including all Macs, than any game ever made. Game balance is as near perfect as anything ever made. Every bug, exploit and hack as been adressed immediately.

If anyone is crying about RealID, your'e just scared that you can't shit talk anymore to some random people.

Too bad Blizz took out the RealID forum usage, I would've gone to anyone's house within 5 km radius of mine and slammed a bench bar on their fat ass.

In your case its a good thing, since if you are going to do something like that over a game means you got brain damage.

No, but I could certainly cause brain damage to you with ease.

There are multiple things on the internet you would never say in life. I have one friend that has quite a big potty mouth that went KTV a few weeks ago. I'm not sure what he said, but he got a bottle opened on his head and a chair broken over his back. He was hosptailized after and almost got my other friends into a scrap as well due to them trying to stop the fight. Reason why I wasn't called to 'solve the problem'? Because my smart friend didn't want any blood to be shed. Needless to say, after I found out I got mad pissed and wanted to start shit with whoever was involved on the otherside but that's the reason why he didn't call me in the first place.

The lesson? That friend who got the bottle opened on his head has a habit of being an internet troll. The problem is he doesn't have the physique or the scrap experience to back it up. There are SO MANY PEOPLE like him on forums it's not even funny. I'd love to have a horrible day where I get into a fight with my girl, do poorly on a final/mid term, and have other things pile up on me result in me taking it out on some poor bastard that thinks shit talking on the internet is safe.

Not all of us are out of shape obese nerds who hide behind the monitor.

People are not legitimized inciting violence over words or otherwise expressed opinions. I don't care what you think you are, if you come to my house mad about something I say and threaten me, you'll be very lucky to not get shot. Sure I understand how "having a bad day" and frustration mix, but that's about time you need to turn off your computer and go do some push ups or work over a heavy bag or something. Real life isn't a game of grand theft auto, and you don't do yourself any justice getting worked up over words. Just words, man. Just... words.
