I'd play EQ if they brought it back as pre-SoL, so the expansions Ruins of Kunark and Scars of Velious still included.
But SWG pre-CU, no. It had some good things, but for these day and age it's not enough. The ACTUAL size of MMORPG worlds: a comparison list between MMO's |

SWG pre-Cu already lacked content. We had the Geo cave, Corvette and the DWB but after that...nothing. If they brought in that Hoth thingy and those other dungeons from time to time instead of raping the whole game before it, it might've done better. SWG pre-Cu (or even CU, I liked that as well) with that new content they brought in....Mustafar, Hoth, ISD, Jedi ruins or whatever it is called.....I would have settled for that....now I have done nothing that was released after the NGE because that broke the games' neck.

this question's been asked over 9,000 times now that would never happen, but even if they did, it would be much too little, much much too late... |

I don't know why people are so obsessed with pre-CU. CU was a great move. COmbat before CU meant endless standing in medic buff lines, which just was absurd. And as a sidenote: I LOVED SWG back then. Emphasis on, back then. I had a great guild, wonderful people and we made up what we wanted to do. I doubt such things would work in today's community. Even then, after some time you just ran out of content. I loved the sandboxish part, but all SWG players back then bemoaned the lack of quests. Almost everyone. Despite common myth, SWG "back then" wasnt a happy crowd, all content about how it was. Most SWG gamers wanted more quests and that was why Kashyyk (sp?) and Mustafar were quite popular among every single SWG player I knew, and back then I knew a LOT. It's just a myth that most SWG gamers were happy with just a mere sandbox alone and no quests and quest lines. That was NEVER the case. Holy Trinity who art in our MMORPGs! Blessed be thy speccs, as in WOW so in all MMOs! Our daily loot grant us, and forgive us our noobness, as we forgive the noobs! And do not lead us to disconnects, But deliver us from mediocrity, For thine is the specialization and the teamwork and the endgame, Until cancellation, Amen! |

Not gonna happen. SOE subsribes to tough love. When the child throws himself on the floor and screams and cries, simply walk away. Most children come to understand although it seems not all. |

Most people have incredibly rose coloured memories of SWG. It didn't have a huge population, most people who tried it at launch quite well before CU and the final folly (those just put the nail in the coffin :p) for a whole host of reasons, light on purpose, content and polish, silly little things like no jumping, lots of minor limitations. I liked the space elements introduced in Lightspeed for sure, but I don't think even a pre-CU SWG would be a pull for me, it was horribly balanced (there was a reason why they wanted to do the CU, even if it didnt all work) and had a bunch of fundamental flaws that folks today would stand for even less than we did back then. I think a pre-CU SWG would be a very niche interest popular with just a small clique of veteran gamers yearning for a more open world. |

Though it had some good points, speaking from the perspective of someone who looks for direction and purpose in a game, it was as shallow as a teaspoon. |

Yeah, its a little forgotten fact that for a brief period (i.e. just before the NGE) the CU version was actually more popular than pre-CU. If the NGE hadn't been introduced, SWG had a chance of being very popular.
I liked both versions (pre-NGE). Pre-CU had a stronger community, which is what I think most actually miss. While the combat was just op'ed due to buffs, things like the buffing added depth. Just for example you used to get dancers, etc hanging around to make some credits while they entertained those queueing. You'd have duels, people trading, etc. With the CU (once fixed) the game generally became better overall, but interaction with the community was less imporant.
However, on the topic of this thread I'd still play SW:TOR. Although I'd problably check out SWG again. It was ahead of its time. In fact it still would have been, in many respects. |

I played pre-Cu and I enjoyed it. But I think this is one of those "you can never go home" things. For example, I happen to think that my server, Kauri, had a lot of character and soul. That was most definitely part of the experience. That's never coming back no matter what happens. |

Totally agree, and I actually liked Pre-CU...Though admittedly I liked the CU best of all...If you're talking about attracting the most people I think the CU with JTL, Musty and Kash would thump Pre-CU in popularity...I remember all the complaining during Pre-CU and I also remember how 75% of My HUGE Guild quit when the NGE hit...Sure some Folks were quitting, after the CU, but the VAST majority stayed as far as I could tell, and more were coming in too...Heck there was even an small influx of Players coming in after the NGE was out for a while...I still think had they just stayed with the CU and expanded it to include stuff like Restuss, Instances, etc..., they would have had one hell of a good niche Game...But a few Months was no where near enough time for the CU to grow roots...They pulled the plug WAY too early... To me Pre-CU was more like an early Beta phase...You could see the potential, but it was FAR from finished or polished...But that's just my opinion... |

I would go back and play it for nostalgia sake (SWG) but it wouldn't take the place of TOR.
If I had to choose between bringing back SWG Pre-CU or CU, or having TOR. TOR hands down. SWG had their chance, multiple times. |

rofflewaffle. Seriously.... I would pick SWTOR over SWG-Pre-CU any day of the week. |

I tend to agree with people saying it's like going back home it would never be the same thing.
Personally? I would play both. |

i played for 5 years, loved the game (CU was my favorite cause i was a BH and we were viable again)..... but i played the flightless bird, and always wondered why i loved the game. It was the community. the game was alright, but the community made it shine, and thats something that would never return of the above mentioned project would be jam packed, rather than a few people on it. So, i am looking for a fresh start, in the star wars universe, made by a great company....TOR has all 3 for me :)

I would not touch it with a six-foot pole. It is still the biggest MMO dissapointment I have had. And had a few... My history with SWG goes something like this - started playing SWG in beta and tried few times after laucnch. However, to me, it was just a horrible game. If it did not have Star Wars skin, I probably would not have even played the beta. Two redeeming qualities for me were Sci-fi and Star Wars setting. It basically was EQ with a new skin, but that was expected due to Verant. I never liked EQ either, just did not hook me in like few others MMOs did. That type of gameplay was not appealing. The main problems I and many others had with SWG (especially beta crowd): 1. It did not feel SW, although it did look like it. 2. The game launced with less than 30% of promised content. Six months later only fraction of that content had been implemented. 3. The gameplay was really boring and buggy. So when WoW launced with far superior polish, content and engaging gameplay...it was no contest. And no, I do not only like themepark MMOs. I have played EVE on and off since the launch and do think it is one of the best, if not the best MMO out there. "The person who experiences greatness must have a feeling for the myth he is in." |
