I've been following your posts on this thread ... and at this point I don't know if you're just having an opposite position for the hell of it or if you're just a plane idiot.

 You think Canada is the only place in the world that doesn't lock their doors? There are many people around here who dont' lock their doors either. But hey, why don't you post your first name and your last name, and we'll put a tag next to your account that you don't lock your doors too just to be sure that some looney toon tracks you down.  It's not an argument actually. Perhaps you seek conflict? Put it in your signature, might as well since you support RealID which will make sure your identity is in every post. So what size TV do you have? How new is your computer. We want to make sure all the "important" info is available after all ;-)

I saw the post about some kid that stabbed a guy because that guy killed him in Counter Strike, yet people use that as a valid reason for people to get angry when they play PvE. You can grief like mad in-game and still post on the forums without anyone knowing it's you, so what's the problem again? If you post on the forums and you're afraid that someone might look you up and your Facebook is the first they get to see, then I don't see the problem there either. As a standard the information displayed to strangers on Facebook is limited to a picture, unless you choose to reveal your address and the likes, but then you're the security problem. If your name is the only thing that divides a person from knowing who you are, then you need to reconsider that what you've been posting on the internet may not be too smart since your information pops up with the first Google attempt.

Thats what a lot of people is trying to explain. Not everybody take the game as a game. Given the chance, some people will take it to real life. And the RealID thing, the real name in forums, and the exploits discovered in WoW LUA to discover your real name from in game are just tools for this crazy guys. Sure most of them will just get angry and then forget it but a small amount will not forget it, they are gonna get angry about you and talking about 11 million players is going to be a really big amount of crazy guys searching for real life info to take revenge or stalk you... or your girlfriend, or your daughter, or your son or your wife.

The problem is not giving away your personal information, (in my opinion is bad enought and is pobably against some laws in a lot of countries) the problem is your name linked to your in game character, thing we already know is not hard to obtain.

Why would I display it in my signature?

If people actually bothered to read what I've been writing instead of just following the sheepherder, you'd realise that I'm against Real-ID because I have a problem with Facebook - I find it pointless to say the least. What I'm also against is people that are thoroughly convinced that people are out to get them because they posted something bad on a forum.

''They're out there'' is what people are saying, and you bet their are. But by being afraid of them is just letting them win, especially when it's the case with trolls that are 'going to kill you'.

They dont think people are out to get them. They however are very aware that given the right person it could happen and are not delusional to think the world is full of good well adjusted people. These games do draw a good amount of freaks.  There have been way to many stories over the years of people killing their kids, themselves and others over a game like WOW to go without notice. Not everyone is pot smoking paranoids. Some just see the world for what it is.

I've heard of so many cases that it can be counted on two hands if not on one hand, and most of them originate from China, the place with one of the highest suicide rates.

 You know what bothers me, people who makes assumptions and insult others because they disagree with you. You. You've got two heads, one supporting the idea and the other one say no you don't. You're all over the map and pretty rude about it. I bet you have assumed I even play WoW. I don't. I haven't. I've never played WoW. I don't have to be afraid of 11 million people out there, one or two of which probably live down the road from me, from doing something drastically stupid because of what I post on a Blizzard forum because I am not on the Blizzard forum. I am also not so naive that I don't think in the blink of an eye, one bad decision can change someone's world forever. You want to be an elitist, someone who runs around the boards calling people lazy, throwing insults while saying you have nothing to hide because you buried your name in a post amongst hundreds of posts while shouting don't be afraid. Guess what. People are worried for a reason, a very good reason. Most of those fears will never be realized, but it only takes one to be tragic. Think about that, for a moment if you can. One bad encounter, one wrong decision made easier because of this policy is one too many.

People have a right to be afraid, they also have a right not to use the forums.

Let me make it clear for you: I am against Real-ID in the sense of Facebook, I am against scaremongering because it's uncalled for, I'm not against having your name displayed on the forums (however, I'm against the reason for it which is not to combat trolls that much, it's the implementation of Facebook).

There is no point in taking it further since I see you as being on the border of attacking me personally, while you see me as rude. Let's just leave it at that and agree to disagree.

 I never called you fanboy did I? Go back and read the way you are talking to people and tell me that is not rude. But hey, this only strengthens my point. You think you are not rude. I think you are. Suddenly, you're posting something someone else doesnt' like, and you don't even know it (although I think you actually do in this case). It is so easy to get someone riled up when you are not standing there talking to them, using the visual cues we use in our lives everyday to read how our communication is being received.  Most of the way we communicate as a species is visual, and it is completely lost on forums and internet conversations.

As a female gamer, I've had enough people go ape-shit after just finding out I am a woman as it is. The last thing I need is for them to get even stranger than they already are.
