Originally posted by swyndle Not at all you play your PC games on a laptop with a lame touch screen instead of a mouse? of course not! where do you put the mouse? I tried to play PC games on a sofa its utter shit. Using a wireless KB and mouse on a sofa is fail when i could just hold a controller. THeres a reason my PC sessions last at the most three hours and my 360 sessions can last an entire weekend. comfort.
Edit: hey man im a PC gamer as well. if you have some secret way to play your PC on ur sofa without needing a table in front of you let me know, link the hardware because even with a wireless setup I still need to fumble around with a keyboard and mouse placement. |

Originally posted by Rockgod99 I don't use the laptop for gaming, I use the tower beside the couch, which has a video lead to the TV. I also have a tray that folds out of the arm rest holding my keyboard, hand pad and mouse(all of which are plugged in) which moves with the recline. Lrn2S-Video. As to set-up for my rig? It started life as an e-machine. It now has new Nvidia card, 4 2 gig ram sticks, my microsoft trackman mouse, Belkin n52 gaming pad, sidewinder flight stick, creative surround speakers backing up the TV's own, and my Razor lycosa keyboard. Along with a few other goodies. I have a PS2 style controller in the remote pouch of the sofa. Sectionals rock. |

Holding a controller> Having your setup and getting wife aggro and being on defensive mode from the kids and the dog. You must not be married or have kid/pets lol That setup is stricktly bachelor.
Im sure you could see where im coming from your setup would never work in my household. |

Originally posted by Rockgod99 Um, I'm 34 and our kids are grown. She introduced me to MMO's, who do you think figured this set up out? Her tower and such is at the other end of the sectional. She uses a wireless 360 style controller when playing racers sometimes. Really the only argument we ever have is which of us is using the bigger screen when we're both gaming.
My advice regarding spouse aggro: Marry the right person. |

Originally posted by swyndle LOL what normal wife wants a PC sitting at the side of a sofa? Im sorry were incredibly social people and have friends over all the time. A PC lodged into a side of my sofa isnt gonna fly. Kinda why i have an entire Den dedicated to our PCs. Now a 360 and other consoles hidden away in the wall unit is much more acceptable. Your 34 with grown kids? damn you started young! im 31 and have four ages 10,9,7,6. Two dogs, a cat and other than my two oldest a PC sitting im my living room would become destroyed within a week by the others lol. As for the marry the right person comment, dont be a douchebag.

Originally posted by Rockgod99 True, we only socialize on our turf with our RPG group. Though we use the other big room for that usually. As to the kids, they're both step, she's a couple years older than me. Wasn't being a douche, it was a lesson I had to learn the hard way. I, an ex-skater with a deep seeded hatred of the average biped married a preppie my first time out. This is number 2. :D |

Originally posted by swyndle Dude I give you credit for having a mini version of E3 as a living room but my wife (even though shes a gamer as well) prefers to keep a non-gamerish living room lol. I'm just saying not everyone can do that. How many people do you know with a setup like you? I love my PC games, dont get me wrong i get pissed if I cant play Eve atleast 10 hours a week but I just find it easier to grab a 360 remote and enjoy my games on my sofa. |

Originally posted by Rockgod99 That's fair I suppose, I did hit geek girl paydirt. I know one other person off the top of my head, but all he has to keep him warm is a couple of great danes. I dunno, the living room looks pretty normal, there's a PS2 and the cable box, a coffee table(under which my smaller monitor gets stored, a recliner, the sofa, two cabinet style end-tables(peripheral storage and the towers are between these and the couch), the movie rack and two standing plants. Plenty of room, doesn't look too different from how I grew up except for the giant window to video nirvana(she went a little nuts on that screen).
To your other post: I never went in too much for illusion of normal. Normal always struck me as sortof bland. My mom seemed to really dig it though. XD |

Originally posted by swyndle Heh my wife is a closet gamer. Even though shes a raid leader in Lotro & WoW you would never know it outside the gamer cave. Yeah I find normal boring also but with as many guests my wife entertains weekly it just makes it easier. Anyway back on topic!!! My whole back and forth is just me reinforcing "Different strokes for different folks". Not everyones situation is the same. I like both my PC and 360 platform and who knows once i figure out how to set up a PC in my living room i may change my tune a bit. |

You people are pathetic but not because you're gamers or because of your gaming platform... |

I play games on both platforms and I am 37 years old. Most of my friends are my age or older and pretty much play PS3 instead of PC. So saying console gaming is for kids doesnt fly. I can name 5 people off the top of my head that I know personally who are over 35, married, kids, full time job , ect who play PS3 frequently if not daily. I personally prefer a PC and believe it is a superior platform for games. I have to admit tho that kicking back after a long days work on the couch playing PS3 is a good alternative to sitting at a desk hunched over a keyboard for hours. To each his own I guess. |

I'm just a lurker who happened upon this thread due to the front page forum crawl and got entranced by the silliness of it. My point is that it is pathetic both that an arguement sprouted up due to such an obvious troll and that the arguement was over any supposed superiority of one gaming platform over another. As a bonus, there's also the 'some of all ya'll're too old to be playing them thar games' angle going on. As for me, I play whatever looks fun. I own a PS3, 360 and a capable PC. My current game of the year is Bayonetta(because of the gameplay-- I'm gay), but I expect it'll be replaced later this year by FFXIV or SC2, if it makes it in time. It's just so funny, to me, to see people argue whether it is OK for them to like something: It is. Like whatever you want; but know, that no matter what you like, somebody out there will think you're stupid for liking it. |

And I totally agree with the last sentence. And yes....I'm married (to another gamer), 46 years old, my children are gone, with the exception of one (he's 20 and doesn't game), and we don't have a console in the house other than a beat up old Gamecube from when my oldest son used to use it.
This thread has evolved into a "which is better....PC or console" argument and....from having seen a MILLION of those here on MMORPG.com....that conversation is about as futile as a "what is the best MMO" thread.
I loathe console gaming. I dabbled in it when my kids were younger with SNES, Dreamcast, Gamecube, etc...and my oldest son has an XBOX 360 at his house that I've played on. I just like the PC better. For FPS I think it's more accurate and you have more precise control. I think the graphics are far better (although I know over time that technology will even the score completely there). Regardliess....I will always be a PC gamer.
I'm just not fond of lounging on a couch all day. For me....that just makes the entire gaming experience remind me of fat men with bags of cheese puffs and beer and shirts stained with cheese dust from the cheetos or whatever, with beard stubble, sweaty underarms and cavemen attitudes. I understand the OP, i played MMO's for 10 years straight 1999 to 2009, i dunno if it's some sort of burnout of the genre or just the fact that everything being released these days always seems to utterly fail and suck..... I never been a console player but hell i bought a 360 last year and i've been on it for about a year straight. When you look at the crap mmo's release in the last few years, it's nothing but shallow, buggy, repetitive, deja-vu, nothing new, nothing original, all wow wannabe. How can i come back to MMO's when on console you have games like Dragon Age, Mass Effect 1 - 2, etc... these games are so awesome compared to today mmo's. No ! Unless a really solid MMO comes out, i'm done paying companies for beta testing mmo's on me. |
