Let me preface this by just saying that I'm English, so I might be missing out on something fundamentally American that means people can justify their belief in a lot of these things and their apologist nature. Also, I do understand that not ALL Americans are like this ( hell, I'd guess at least 50% of you aren't, considering Obama's middle ground party won the election ), but I do see it in EVERY thread about American politics. I'm horrified by how apologist, right wing and generally stupid ( at least in terms of politics ) a great deal of Americans seem to be. Justifying things like killing news reporters with "they were in a warzone, their lives were in their own hands" ( sure they are, but I doubt they'll be expected to get gunned down by an American helicopter who had a pilot LYING about them shooting at him, they're more expecting to get killed by terrorists ). I mean, it's like you people have a censor filter that blocks out rational thought towards potential "dangers" to America. ( lol @ this, too, invading Middle-Eastern countries because they MIGHT have insurgents that MIGHT have been involved in the World Trade Center bombings, and then expecting to win - didn't you guys learn anything from Vietnam? ) The anti-Socialism I see prevalent throughout American media is hilarious horrible, too. People seem to think their opinions ( actually brain washing on behalf of major corporations ) mean disadvantaged people aren't entitled to free health care, welfare when they're down on their luck ( everyone is there at least once ) or education. How do you people justify allowing people's lives to get run into the ground just because you're unwilling to cough up a bit of cash in your taxes? Money that YOU may benefit from. Really, don't you see how much of a joke you've become to the world, simply because of people like this? People who are unwilling ( often not unable ) to help their fellow man because it costs them some money, and yet still claim to be good Christians? People who justify killings of innocents thousands of miles away from their homes, because America needs defending? People who seem to want to screw over the principles of America's founding fathers constantly, whilst claiming to be upholding their principles and beliefs? It makes me ILL to see such selfish, bloodthirsty and hypocritical people who continuously justify to themselves that what they're doing is right because of media brainwashing. And to see them be lauded as paragons of human dignity just makes me lose faith in mankind as a whole. That is all. ( TL;DR: Your country is fucked up by right-wing morons. ) ![]() |

As far as I know US has the same shit every other western country has. The only difference is that they cover a wider area. I have travelled in quite a few countries, and I can tell you this "Same shit different name". PS. Though I will note that in US I have noticed a continuous trend of breaching individual privacy by private companies. |

Originally posted by Autarch Heh yeah I know about it. Though I disagree of how people act towards it. Really though I don't think it's that bad. For example the worst I have seen in American tourists is that they ask for MC donald's when there are a million other options. Brits though organise blowjob contests in the middle of the road:P |

The anti-Socialism I see prevalent throughout American media is hilarious horrible, too. Well that all boils down to money. IMO some people are all about helping each other when it's free, if not they don't want any of their taxes helping anyone but themselves. Of course they say all this while using public roads everyday, go to hospitals, call fire departments when their house is on fire, and are participating in Medicare. If people are going to walk the walk why don't they not pay taxes, then volunteer to not accept any services they aren't paying for. It's basic hypocracy and greed. For a supposed Christian nation many have a funny way of showing it. The media feeds off negativity as usual and 99% of the time exasperates a lot of issues causing more harm than good. Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL! |

Originally posted by Dekron I can see how you can read it this way. Since, essentially, what is IS saying to YOU is, "Blahblah, I am British. Blahblah, I hate Americans like YOU. Blahblah, I am better than YOU." The whole inferiority complex thing is fine, don't stress it. ![]() |

Socialism has no place in America. I don't know where you were when you were being educated on early American history, but never was it the plan to have a huge federal government that holds every citizen's hand through their life by taxpayer dollars. Believe it or not, what makes America better than you socialists is that for a long time we didn't need the government to do any of this for us... you got hard-earned cash from your work and you built your own fortune with your bare hands; if you couldn't cut it, you didn't make it. Socialism is a sign of weakness. It is the point in a country's history when your citizens have lost either the ability, opportunity, or motivation to make their own way in life and require handouts to get by. This isn't what America is. America is about the possibility for even the poorest person to, through hard work and unbridled ambition, to rise up through society and become a successful person. Unfortunately this vision of true American values is lost because of overpopulation... and as I have argued earlier, I believe this is because of the presence of nuclear weapons in the world. Nuclear weapons prevent the conduct of conventional warfare and creates this "locked-in" effect wherein we are all trapped inside of our countries without any opportunity to fight.... except weird nation-building operations in the mid east >> When your country reaches a point where you have a surplus of battle-worthy citizens, you better send them out to die for your country and king (though unfortunately we lack a king too.) This keeps the population at a steady, manageable rate, where instead of people trying to find their way in society, society itself finds a need for them. The other solution to keeping your population at a good level, and thus creating a society where people are needed for their work in comparison to where people aren't needed like today, is colonization and settling down into new lands. Unfortunately, unless if we wish to settle in icy wastes, deserts, or mountain ridges, the Earth has been fully explored and colonized. Therefore, the only option left is to set out into the final frontier... unless we wish to surrender our freedoms and the American way to be parasites living off the government and our fellow man.

It's not as bad as it probably seems. Your media probably shows the wingnuts more than they show the majority.
The conservatives in this country are the loudest right now, but this country gets more and more liberal every day, at least socially. Just look at gay rights over the past 10 years.
I don't know what to tell ya when it comes to the mindset of some of the people you're talking about. They just have a deep embedded hatred for everything government (except for the military). They fear signing their name on a census form, but will gladly hand over 3 forms of ID and their social security number to Wal-mart.
Whatever, they'll go away eventually. They can't stop progressivism, they can only slow it down. Looking at the history of the country tells you that. |

"People should die instead of getting hand outs", "I'm an American, I've never needed help off anyone else", "We need to start pointless wars in order to keep our population down", "Our founding fathers didn't believe in helping their fellow man, if their fellow man couldn't work they'd LET THEM DIE". Wow. Really. Wow. EDIT: Is it just me, or does this guy sound very pro-Social Darwinist? That has worrying implications. ![]() |

Originally posted by Autarch I know it can be shocking to those of you who are squeemish, but that's the American way. I also realize that you Brits have a habit of forcing your way of life on other people, but we defeated you and we don't have to suffer that anymore thankfully. If you can't make it as an American, then go back to having your hand held through life elsewhere. "Listen, you fuckers, you screwheads. Here is a man who would not take it anymore.
