Just thought it was funny. I got an email from Blizzard saying my account had been suspended. The reason they gave was something to do with buying gold. I wouldn't know how to do that but whatever. I had a friend who left WoW a few months before I did. He gave me everything he had including over 5,000 gold. I guess they thought I bought it from him. Oh well, haven't been there in a long time and was looking forward to seeing how things changed with the new expansion later this year. Guess I'll never return. |

"Dude, you're quitting?" "Yeah, I'm sick of da Warcraft." "Can I has your stoof?" "Sure man, take it all! Especially my goldz." "Thanks dude!" ~Approximately 1 year later~... "I got banned from WoW? But I don't even play anymore! OLOLOLOLOL!" The above dramatization was a lesson, kiddos. Don't ask for your friends' stoof or Blizzard will ban you!

I get banned from WoW like 4 times a day... Probably a fake email. Edit: (Oh... And I haven't played for years) |

Here is the email:
***Notice of Account Closure*** Account Name: XXXXXXXXXX Reason for Closure: Terms of Use Violation -- Exploitative Activity: Abuse of the Economy This account was closed because one or more characters were identified exchanging, or contributing to the exchange of, in-game property (items or gold) for "real-world" currency. This exchange process negatively impacts the World of Warcraft game environment by detracting from the value of the in-game economy. Even if this behavior is the result of a third party accessing the account instead of the registered user (for example, a friend, family member, or leveling service) then the account can still be held responsible for the penalty because of the impact it had on the game environment. We've found the above behavior is many times directly related to groups responsible for compromising World of Warcraft accounts; we take these issues very seriously. To better understand our position against exploitative activity and the risks involved, please review this article: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/basics/antigold.html The exploitative activity that took place on this account violates the World of Warcraft Terms of Use. We ask you take a moment to review these terms at http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/legal/termsofuse.html. Any recurring subscriptions on this account have been suspended to prevent further monetary charges. For any disputes of this action, please visit the Exploitative Activity FAQ and Contact page here: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article/exploitfaq Regards, Blizzard Entertainment **************** Sovrath said that my friend might have bought gold. I heard him mention it but he never said he did. However, it is highly possible. |

If you hover over the links in the email and look in lower left hand corner of your browser, you should see the true links shown there. Odds are that one of those links doesn't point to worldofwarcraft.com, but rather something that looks similar and could be easily overlooked if you don't pay attention. Sounds like a phishing email so you should not click any of the links. |

For the first time in months they used a send address which didn't enter my "junk and delete" folder automaticcaly. So for the fun I clicked on the "valid" url address: yep ! a non Blizzard url in which I was asked to put in my log in and pasword. ...I mean, comon folks, which idiots would still fill in these forms. I checked on my Bitdefender: 2 key loggers just dropped in (and were deleted). I guess 0.1% still fall for these traps anyway.... I looked at my authenticator and smiled. Still not installed. I think the chance of getting hacked (for me) is way much smaller than losing my authenticator (knowing myself). Be smart and have a decent defense system. it is your computer. Want a real mmorpg? Play WOW with experience turned off mode and be Pve_Pvp King at any level without a rat race. |

The two reasons listed in a couple of replies are the most likely, either a phishing mail or your friend had purchased the gold before passing it to you. I have moved thousands in gold around between two accounts and other guild members over the years, but all of it legitimate and never once been questioned by Blizzard no matter the size of the transaction. They don't just jump on large amounts being moved around unless there is a good reason for it to look suspicious. Your best bet to check it out is to contact Blizzard directly through the official site rather than any e-mail links. It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays. |

Never click on |bad| links. You are lucky loggers were detected, for every logger that was detected, there could be a logger that wasn't. Its dangerous to play that game. I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time. |

A really good way to lower your chances of getting these types of emails is to delete all your characters before you cancel your account. Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL! |
