"According to our information (obtained, as they say, a source familiar with the matter), the next MMO from Blizzard is in part an FPS. It will take place in a futuristic universe. It changes from clear to the MMORPG World of Warcraft.

In this new MMO, each player has two "lives" his first "life" is a kind of Sims Online, a giant hub with social interaction and the ability to connect to its second life. Which will consist of fighting for subjective.

We have no details yet. It should be noted nonetheless that the project has no connection with the persistent rumors of Call of Duty MMO."

This sort of goes along with the same rumor, here's a note about Kaplan (who switched from WoW to this new property last year) attending a Global Agenda demo at E3 (a MMOFPS of course):

http://www.incgamers.com/Features/210/MMO-Weekly-90609

"There was one interesting side note, and I thought you should be aware of it. While we were at the Global Agenda booth, Rob Pardo and Jeff Kaplan came by to check the game out. Maybe they were just passing by, saw the game, and dropped in. I didn't get that impression. I got the impression the were there with a purpose. Considering that 1) there are a ton of rumours that Blizzard is working on an MMOFPS based on the Starcraft universe, and 2) Pardo said some very interesting things about sci-fi MMOs at the 2008 GDC, their presence at the Global Agenda booth really had me intrigued. But then again, I see conspiracies everywhere. Smile"

if you link all the hint together! +the fact they ditched startcraft guost wich had playable part from what some posted my nose tell me this!they when from warcraft serie to world of warcraft so the next logical step is aworld of starcraft or whatever they ll call it! but their set their goal way higher then they did with wow.a whole lot higher in fact! but they will have one competitor soon and if their game is very good when blizzard come in with their next mmo it will probably be too late for now microsoft halo reach will only go on xbox but i bet they will be ready for computer market way before blizzard

They're not using existing IPs, unless they decide to change their minds, so no. No Starcraft Online. No World of Starcraft. It'll probably be a classic Blizzard ripoff of another popular sci-fi IP that will be "new" and "original" because it's made by Blizzard. Star Wars, maybe? We'll get to play with Workies instead of Wookies!

Remove quests, bosses and trigger them back in is called Dynamic events now?lol..i think not.

Well before you have a game design, you have to have the game engine, this is what will be the dead give away.

I am really surprised no one has leaked any information IF they were making a new engine, and definitely IF they were licensing an engine ,someone would know.

So most likely they re not making a new game engine and it is quite possible they are not licensing one.soooooooooo

They are going to rehash more of their old rubbish?Starcraft engine? There is no way on earth they can make anything good no matter what genre or theme based off anything they have in their house right now. They MUST license a good game engine or make a new one that is top notch with other good game engines. So it is just possible the yare light years from anything constructive, they may only be working on artwork and ideas, but nothing concrete.

Blizzard has said that they're building a new game engine and that it started with the WoW engine.  They've also said that they have 2 new MMOs in the works (some people say more than 2), one that's a completely new IP (this one that the rumor is about) and another that's based on an existing IP of theirs.  Most people think the other one is based on Starcraft; it being some kind of spin off from Starcraft Ghost probably makes a lot of sense, but who knows.  No inside information here, just what I've been reading on the web and what Blizzard has said publicly.  I went to the last couple of BlizzCons, and I don't remember them talking about any of this there, I think Blizzard has only talked about these at other events, and then only in vague statements.

Ok i did my homework as i always do,and found out a ton of stuff i did not know, mainly because i do not have much faith in Blizzaard ,so i do not follow them much.

First of all interesting stuff....

Blizzard lost their main brains behind WOW to RED5 studios, who are in the news for using a highly touted game engine.

Back before the invention of WOW,Blizzard tried and wanted to enter the console market, but did NOT have the game engine nor the skill to make it happen. They hired an outside developer Nihilistic studios. They did not like the results and canned them and looked elsewhere. They found some Swinging Ape studios, but obviously did not do the homework because Swinging Ape had to look for and hire a capable game engine engineer. The fact that they would hire ho hum developers to do work for them, shows how in capable Blizzard really is.

Now they have received praise for being versatile and move forward in the industry quickly[i would debate that].That game was suppose to be Starcraft :Ghost and we all know that never panned out.

I finally found out what game engine Blizzard has licensed,as i knew they had to have one....

www.insidemacgames.com/news/story.php

This sounds like a pretty decent engine,as HL2 and Halo2 used it.

One thing for sure it shows Blizzard does not have the in house skill, and with all their money i would think they could hire the right people. What still remains unknown is since they lost their upper echelon to RED5 Studios,do they have anyone left that is skilled in creativity ,to make a good game? They also lost their Diablo guys that went on to create a Diablo look a like and have lost many other high ranking staff,so geesh they must be really thin for skilled people.

With the loss of all their staff, I fear this battleship will finnaly sink. Blizzard has had a good run, but the quality of WoW has really dropped in my eyes and what else have they come out with recently? 2004 wow, 2007 wow expansion, 2008 wow expansion, promise of Starcraft 2 in early 2010, and who knows when Diablo 3 will get released from its shelf of doom. Well at least the last game update from the website was 9/26/09. They can always get more people to fill those empty seats, but they will have to instil that creative culture that they have maintained for the years previous.

On topic of the discussion, officially I can agree with everyone else and say it will be a totaly new game. Build from the gound up new story, new idea, new etc. As for the rumor flying around as this new game being a FPS MMO, props to blizzard for trying something new, If im correct they have never made a FPS genre game ever. If this is true, I hope there is an option to change my POV to 3rd person.

If Blizz's next MMO is Sci-Fi FPS, then I do not have to wait for it.  That genre is great to many other people, but not for me.

This narrows down FF XIV or Everquest Next as possiblities, and I would love to see the latter.  Who knows, maybe EQ will be back on top again.

You are aware that Havok is just a physics engine right? And owned by intel i think. Theres pretty much just 2 good physics engines out there right now, and thats nVidias PhysX and Intels Havok. Havok is being used both in SC2 and in Diablo3.

I seem to remember reading an interview with Mark Kern about Red 5's MMO where he mentioned the key reason he decided to leave Blizzard is that he and they had totally different views on the design direction of future MMOs.  He also mentioned that one of Red 5 MMO's main features will be that time vs geography will be their main form of persistence, ie he wants the game world to change over time in very significant ways.  Just speculation, but this could one of the main features he and Blizzard had a disagreement over.  If so, I would not expect Blizzard's new MMO to have this feature!

Until they see it work in another game.

I would also like to point out that while these employees left Blizzard and yes they did work on some of our favorite games to come from Blizzard; they are not the only creative people in the world. They are not a dying breed. There are plenty of people out their with great creative minds that can help with this Brand New IP. Key words being Brand New, so maybe any new hires will bring Brand New ideas. Again the key words were Brand New. Dont think Blizzard is limited by their past employees. I see different people working at my local Whataburger all the time, but even when those same people arent there, they still make a nice burger.

My speculation is that it will be WoW engine under the hood, and Halo / WoW gameplay rebadged as Starcraft.  Reason being, that's the path of least resistance.  All the tools exist.  The server modifications would be relatively small (possibly incorporating changes being added now, as well as in Cataclysm).  The Starcraft IP is well known and could adapt to Halo combat fairly easily.

I wouldn't assume that even though the target and combat is FPS that the game will revolve around PVP.  Sure there will be some as a mini-game, but PVE will be the main framework, at least that's my take.

Avatar seems a rather limited IP for an MMO. Not to mention balance issues between a primitive culture and a high tech one.

Pretty good movie, though. 8/10

They are using a New IP. Not Starcraft, Not Warcraft, Not Diablo. They are not using an existing IP. This has been stated multiple times in different news releases.

Well they did mention battling over objectives so that would mean factions are invilved which clearly makes the arguement for a mmo based in the Starcraft Universe. You see WoW can't and will not live forever so whatever their new mmo is it must be more popular than the WoW ip.
