Full loot sucks in mmorpgs anyways.

Some of us play MMOs because of excitment, others to relax after a long day of work, leave them be...

More like people can handle it, but choose not to. Personally there are some games I would hate to see full loot in. Mainly games where it takes quite a while to get your gear. If gear is fairly easy to come by, then it isn't too bad, still get that anger of being looted, but you can shrug it off and go craft or farm some gear. But if its a sword you spent months farming out, only to have it looted of your corpse, that's something that'll make anyone rage quit.

"For the Angel of Death spread his wings on the blast,
And breathed in the face of the foe as he passed:
And the eyes of the sleepers waxed deadly and chill,
And their hearts but once heaved, and for ever grew still!"

According to Jim, it is the truth, nothing to discuss.

Cerealisly, it may be your truth, but I would have to say that most players that actually play any full loot game, don't have a problem losing things. After all, they have chosen to partake. I would say that most people have more of a problem with the usual shenanigans that are associated with  full loot environments. So, as mentioned, most rational people will just choose to not deal with it.

If there was the slightest chance that a defeated character could lose even one item, the so-called "hardcore" PvP players would abandon PvP en masse.  They only want to be "harcore" PvP'ers in carebear games like WoW, War and the like, where you just bounce back from a defeat with no muss and no fuss.

Most people can't handle base jumping either.  If you wonder why, its because most people aren't stupid enough to do it=)  Those who choose to do it aren't better at anything other than risking their lives on a hobby that can kill you, which isn't anything to be proud of.  People can't handle full loot because most people aren't interested in wasting their time on something not fun. Choosing to play a game that literally wastes your time doing time consuming chores is also nothing to be proud of.

I might play a game with full loot if loot meant nothing at all and I can simply replace it at will.  But if replacing it meant grinding and farming to earn coin to rebuy it over and over again, than to me thats a complete waste of time.  Because, it takes no skill to farm for X number of minutes to gain X amount of coin to buy another set of gear that you will lose over and over again.   Farming isn't fun and thats all full loot is.  Another time sink.  Pointless.

Weird.

I've played Eve for well over 3 and a half years, and I can't even count the amount stuff I've lost in that game. Don't even get me started on how much crap I've lost in Darkfall. Never abandoned PVP in either games.

So what I understand up to now is that peoples do not like the feeling that they can loose something? Inst that boring? To know that there is no wrong way so whatever you do is right? Where is the challenge? Where is the reward?

I miss full loot rights.. aka.. Dry Looting.

There was nothing funnier than the days of listening/watching somebody cry and threaten harm to themselves as you cut up their armor or tossed the weapon they'd farmed in to the trash.

Meh... it is a new age of gaming. The "hardcore" players are now time investors.. and the "pvp" players are now called unstable or anti-social. Things have changed quite a bit from the day when gaming was dangerous, exciting and fun.

People like different kinds of games, I don't see what is the big deal.

There is nothing wrong or right in a MMO as long as you have fun, full loot or only PvE.

If you don't like full loot, don't play the game or if it have the option, play on a server without it. It is that simple.

It just doesn't seem fun to me.   To each their own though.

1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Why post a thread if you have nothing to contribute?

Full loot could be done properly, and could be done very poorly.  If your gear is only say 10% of your character's ability and it's easy to acquire, sure why not.  In most games, that is not the case.

You're right, I can't handle it.  It doesn't bother me to say that because I look at mmos as perpetual character advancement of which I consider gear an integral part.  When you can lose all your gear in pvp, the game just isn't even much of a mmo to me anymore.  The game becomes another beast entirely where you don't care much about gear progression.  That's just not what I personally find fun.

However, there are those out there who *do* find it fun, and I for one am happy there are games out there to suit them.  After all, if they can get rid of just one ganker we've already improved other mmos.  :)

That being said, I do enjoy pvp in mmos, quite a bit actually.  As is my motto in life, it's the middle ground that can provide the most benefit to everyone.  So with that in mind, mmos with little pvp or little pvp penalty are no fun, just as those mmos with full loot pvp are just as unfun.  I'd like to see meaningful pvp, and the one thing I thought WAR did really well was by having drops in pvp.  If you can get gear from killing other players (but not that other player's actual gear), you've got a solution that is good for both parties.

Well,  the way it appears many developers look at it is......  whats better then balancing risk vs. reward?  Balancing reward vs. reward!

Why even bother with the risk when people can just win, every time, with little consequence.  No, its not always exciting and fun, but its appealing.  It has less to do with what people can handle and more so a choice of what players would rather do.... Win all the time,  or win some of the time.

I don't advocate any single play style, and I find both appealing in their own right.... but if I came up to you and said, hey, would you like to win all the time OR would you like to win just some of the time and other times lose everything... your choice would be pretty clear too.  Developers try and provide the easy choices so players don't have to hurt themselves thinking.
