Hi all, After much looking around I have decided to return to Vanguard as I feel it has by far the best crafting system of any MMORPG. I enjoy skill based crafting, and crafting that many people would find tiresome. The latter filters out true crafters from the WoW crafting generation =). I played for a bit after launch but I have decided to return and start again from scrach. I am looking for some advice as to which server to start on. Although I am UK based I dont mind playing on a US server. I am mainly interested in both making and selling things, and the latter depends more on population and doesnt need them to be online at the same time as me =). So is there any advice on which server could best suit my needs? Many thanks in advance NickWJM Master Armoursmith PreNGE SWG |

If population is what you care mostly about then I would choose Saradon. It seems to be more populated than Xeth and the others.
Never played Ryzom but crafting in VG is pretty complicated but fun. Here is a harvesting/crafting vid from youtube www.youtube.com/watch
The way crafting works in VG is all items you create is basically a blank slate. You fill in the stats you want yourself by adding components that brings out the stats and effects you want. You only have so many actions before you have to finish your product. While crafting you have to take additional steps to increase your quality of the item for a better result, all the while you get complications you need to solve making the process more difficult. Not much is left to chance as it is mostly skill/level based on how easy or hard an item is created with the best possible quality. Quality ranges from C grade to A+ ..D is a failure.
And that's just for starters. You have to figure out what tools to use for certain tasks, either for refining or finishing steps. The recipy guides you in the right direction but to combat complications you have to use a little strategy of what tools to choose, prior to starting and what utilities to add to your table. Then there is crafting stats management which is the most confusing part but also adds in more strategy.
Once you figure it all out it's fun and the community is very helpful. You can build your own housing and your own boat ranging from several Tiers not to mention weapon/armor/jewelry/harvesting tools and clothes/general items such as horse shoes for mounts and barding plus a long list of other very useful items.
Then there is the crafting quests with storylines of their own and opposing factions.
Crafting is far from a gimmic in VG it really adds to the game |

Thanks for the reply Fibsdk, looks like its Saradon here I come! =) Although I do adventure a bit crafting has always been my passion. Its such a shame that no other MMORPG has gone to the depth that Vanguard has with its system. There are many of us who love to make things, and I dont mean collect resources, hit button, done. I really enjoyed this part of Vanguard on release and am looking forward to giving it another go. Cheers |

Xeth always falls behind both during peak and off hours. /chatlog and macro /who all 1 10, /who all 11 20, /who all 21 30, /who all 31 40 ...you get the idea and you get accurate numbers towards server numbers at any given time |
