Hey... VG was alright... he he. Actually, I find most MMOs alright, very few are awsome. |

At this point, STO looks like something I will skip the initial release of. Too much is not going to be in there that I am interested in, and Cryptic seems to be sticking with the "same" formula for this game, as many others have used in the industry. Flashly looks, flashly action, little depth, cookie cutter everything for everyone. If I'm wrong, maybe I'll play sometime after launch. But as things look now, I'll not be playing.

Choose your ships. Choose your ship equiptment. Choose your crew members. Choose your species. Choose your skills. Choose your crews skills. Choose personal equiptment. Choose your crews' personal equiptment... How's that cookie cutter? =/ Genesis system = based off of Procedural Animation, currently not in any MMO that I am aware of, as it is a very very new technology. It has a lot of very non-cookie cutter aspects. The simple fact they mentioned tank, dps, and support hardly makes it cookie cutter. |

*looks at the current crop of Sci-fi MMO's*
I think there is more than enough room for something that isn't EVE or Star wars in this market.

Actually, Star Wars is based more on a "Western" than "Fantasy"... just being technical here. Either way, Star Wars still happens to have laser blasters, star ships, mines, gernades, etc.... I'd hardly call that "'fantasy". Those that are displeased and disappointed with the current state of STO are sore solely because the fact they expected, and demanded certain abilitiees, many of which are literally beyond reasonable technical ability at this time, and did not get them. Its like a child that REALLY wants to go on a rocket ship when he gets to a park, finds out it's just a model and not a REAL rocket ship, and then decided the park will burst into flames and EVERYONE in the park will die a horrible death.... simply because he didn't get EVERYTHING he wants. And before you spew some complete nonesense about Cryptic having some DUTY to serve you hand and foot, no, they don't. They owe you NOTHING. It's not like you single handed built their company for them, took care of their children while they were at work, cleaned their house, etc. They are making a game. They cannot please EVERYONE. And well, you are part of the minority that got your dreams dashed. Sorry? And stop with the whole "A game for everyone BUT Star trek fans" gibbergabber. I am a Star Trek fan, quite so, and I'd like to try this game out. See... I can SEE the difference between STAR TREK and a GAME. You are a FOOL to ever believe it possible for a GAME to capture STAR TREK. |

Going to be honest, I only read 3 of the 7 pages in this thread thus far.
That being said, and hopefully not said already, I can understand where the OP is coming from. What I think he means to say is that this game is going to be new, and as such it should look better than those MMOs currently on the market. I think this has something to do with the new "popular" cartoonish art style that is going around. Maybe they did research and found out that this style appeals to the intended customer base idk. I agree MMOs have much more to them than just the graphics, but in all honesty I would be hardpressed to say that this game does infact look good. The MMO I myself am looking forward to is FFXIV, which to me, looks plenty better than this Star Trek game. And I can almost guarantee will have a more detailed story. That being said, I'm most likely going to at least try STO, I always give games fair shots. If the game isn't for you it's not for you, but there's someone out there that is going to enjoy it and thats what counts. |

Ill see it with my own eyes and experience what it has to offer. Of course the next mmo im truly lookin forward to is also FFXIV as well, i cant wait! with that said, STO will be worth a shot to me for a month at least. and to the above poster, love ur Gil avatar, thats kinda epic lol |

To be honest the starship battles look like something from PotBS only in space, and the fact that it takes multiple phaser hits to drop someone is lame and the animations look so stiff. Yuck. Both ST and SW:ToR just look lousy. ![]() |

Meh, still in Beta. Closed Beta at that. I wouldn't judge on animation smoothness as of yet. |

Short answer: No, OP. No your not. Still fairly short answer: Like a lot of things it looks like the same old half-baked knock off with yet another skin. Little bit longer, but not much answer: The truth of the matter is that as cool as a a Star Trek MMORPG sounds, doing it the right, doing it the way Star Trek fans want it done, and in a way that will bring something genuinely fresh to WoW burnouts is entirely impractical. Active: WoW, DDO: EU Semi-retired: Darkfall, STO, EvE Fully retired: UO, EQ, AC, SWG, FFXI, DDO:SR, PoTBS, AoC Tried: EQ2, Tabula Rasa, Auto-Assault, Isteria, LotRO, Wizard 101 |

Originally posted by NotNiceDino Probably right. Some IPs simply don't make for a good MMORPG. I think SW:TOR is the same way - though less so. I'm not sure it can't be done, but I am sure STO won't even be close. "" Voice acting isn't an RPG element....it's just a production value." - grumpymel2 |

Opinions entitled, I looking forwar to both STO & TOR and if you compare graphics to a console game..... well you haven't been around the MMO world to long and understand how things work. |

It has the best graphics I've seen in any MMO to date. I recently played DragonAge: Origins, and that has graphics that remind me of the original Neverwinter Nights. I'm not saying all MMO's have to have "super omg" graphics, but I think if you're putting a game together that has the fanbase and expectations of a Star Trek you can't settle. Options would be very nice so people with every type of machine can play, but there is no reason to just accept the fact that it can look better but doesn't. We are the ones paying for and playing these games, why as consumers should we be okay with this?
Thanks for the comment on the avatar lol, I wont lie I dboxed about 50k gil or so to get the 1,333,337. |

I'm only posting this for those that keep on complaining about the graphics not being current top of the line graphics.. 1) This game started being designed years ago when the graphic engine they chose to run with was one of the best.. YES, technology has increased since then , but it's always changing every year.. Should a game actually shut down and REDO everything just because a new graphics engine comes out? NO 2) It's all about the numbers.. YES, I'm sure there are a small number of players that buy new graphics card each time a better one comes out, or a new computer.. However, most paying customers do not.. This is the targeted base that companies go after.. WoW has very basic simple graphics, but can get over 10 million subs... Hmmmm 3) I would rather play a game that has B rated graphics, that can accommodate 2 million players, then a A+ rated graphics game that can only sustain 30,000 players..... Understand? |

It was a long time ago.... but they also mentioned they didn't want to go for full realistic looking graphics because of aging purposes. When you go for full realism, within a few months, it's outdated and people take note. When you have more artistic looking characters, scenes, etc, that extends the life of the game significantly because people will be less likely to judge based on realism. |
