At last years fanfest CCP mentioned that they would be adding voice filters in Incarna so you could alter your voice, even to sound like the opposite gender. I like this, and will most certainly use it because me avatar is female and I want her to speak accordingly. This does not mean I have secret wish of being female, but simply, that I enjoy the immersing into the life of my avatar while at the same time keep a strict separation between me and my avatar. Do you guys foresee some problems, when it becomes more natural for people to alter the voice as games implements easy access to such features, and it is no longer only done by true oddballs? |

Studies have shown that people have no social pressure to make them act civil when their identities are masked. Prime example would be 4chan. I believe voice altering would spread the asshat-behaviour to voice chat aswell. Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference. -Author unknown, attributed to Mark Twain |

I think asshat behavior already exists on voice chat, and you are anonymous already. People may be able to deduce some things about you from your voice, like age and gender, but that doesnt' mean they know who you are. Although many guilds use voicechat, and it can be a fun immersive part of MMORPGs, I don't think typing to chat is ever going away. Many people are just uncomfortable using voicechat, or annoyed at hearing other peoples voices. So sure, put filters in. It's just something people that like to use voicechat can play with if they choose to. As long as people use dating sites for dating, and MMORPGs for playing games, they won't have any problems. If you get confused about which is which, then you might not like this. |

If MMOs were truly for roleplaying, then I don't see a problem with it (akin to a male acting a females part upon a shakespeare stage)... But alas they're not any more immersive for the majority of the community than a First Person Shooter is. Therefore I prefer not to party with guys playing girls. It's not accepted in environmental association as RP, but rather crossdressing... And those people have issues. I like people that enjoy being themselves.
I give my opinion with no insult to anyone, but know that I cannot expect to receive the same treatment. Wonder how long it'll take this time for someone to feel they have to belittle the astute individual posting an applied opinion in attempt to make themselves feel less of a moron... "Easy" only equals "better" for crack addicts and MMORPG developers. |

That right there says it all. Shouldn't matter at all in an MMO if you are a guy playing a girl or a girl playing a guy. MMOs are for fun, and they are GAMES. Those who get upset about this are probibly the ones looking to cyber rather than play the game. Only way to really know who is behind that AV is possibly a webcam. Voice filter programs have been available for years now. So even if you think you are talking to a RL girl...easily coulda been a guy. Keep the romance in RL. |

I don't typically bother with voice chat except to listen in for corp ops so this would not really impact me. That said, it's just another feature and that is always a good thing in my opinion. Sure, some people will use to elevate their scams, but that is true of any tool that gets introduced. It will be interesting to see how this and Cosmos (or whatever it's being called now) get used together (if at all). -mklinic "There's a point I think we're missing. |

I think it is a bad idea I have to post pictures of myself just to get people to believe I am female.... with remarks such as "No girls play video games" or more insulting disgusting things giving people to pose as my gender disgust me! I am female and i do not need to be attack for being such because someone wants to act like a girl... play a girl toon fine... Personaly i play male toons simple because they are Hot lol... but make it clear your true gender |

I forsee the same problems that we have today. There is a segment of the mmo community that feels threatened or lied to when they discover the person behind the avatar does not mesh up with what they see in their minds.
It sounds like you are a very creative individual and you are trying to really step into the role of your character. I think it's great, and the voice altering software would simply be another tool to immerse yourself. Also, since so many games are adding voice, it allows you to stay in character. |

So you don't play with anyone that is playing a Troll, because you like people that enjoy being themselves? Certainly playing a Troll, or an Elf, or a Tiger man, or a child like character is NOT being yourself. This is a race from the upcoming Final Fantasy MMORPG, called Lallafell. Would you say THIS is playing YOURSELF? If you are comfortable with someone playing a child, even if they are not a child in real life, but not comfortable playing with someone that plays a female, even though they are not a female in real life, it seems to me this can only be because you are trying to use the MMORPG as a dating site. Just join Match.com or Eharmony or something, and dont' confuse those with MMORPGs. Otherwise, I can't see why one would bother you, but the other does not.

There is a point of playing RP in a game but i am Judge for being female because someone plays a female toon and does not make it clear to the world he is not female... there for whenever i say im female im seen a liar this is not fair to me ... or any other true female that plays video games |

Okay, not my point if your not realy a female and it comes in to question why can you not just say "No i am not" .... instead of saying you are a female in RL? is there a point in lying when the question is directly asked about your RL Sex not your ingame sex if someone asked are you female say "Yes i am a female night elf" and if the question was "What are you male or female in RL" say "I dont want to anwser" or "I am male" there is no good reason to lie to people on a video game is the question was out of RP then the reply can be out of RP |

Voice chat completely kills immersion for me. Period. Even if you sounded like an orc or a gnome, it wouldn't be the same as I would have thought they would sound, so it just doesn't work for me. For games like EvE or GW where everyone is a human, I could probably handle voice chat, as long as there wasn't alot of Out Of Character talk, which there always is on voice chat. Hell, there's plenty of OOC chat w/o voice chat, but I can tolerate that much easier for some reason. I hate talking on the phone, and using voice chat is like talking on the phone. I hate it. |

No, the point is, why would you ask in the first place? Why would it be important in a game? Besides male to female, or vice a versa, you can also make yourself sound like a Troll, or Darth Vader. OMG, how annoying would taht be? |

Well Tech Its not but the question comes up more often then not, and I can tell the truth and be viewed as a liar until i prove other wise. My point if the question is asked then tell the truth dont be a liar and scum bag |

So you want to tell everyone you're a girl, so you can flirt with the guys, and you're upset because guys playing girls are getting in the way of your action? Maybe if you just play the game, and don't worry about flirting it won't be a problem. Why do you care so much if someone thinks you're a guy, if you don't want to flirt? |

I don't want to flirt i actualy avoid the pervs on games... but when your Guild ask people you play with every day and they cant believe you because there are so many cyber cross dressers and being viewed as one of these people is insulting |

I dont understand why someones gender would be important in any way in a game..? Its really irrelevant to me. If someone asks me about my gender, I say that im a unisex alien-squid |
