A community member here on MMORPG.com (bagguns) gave me access to a 21 day trial account so I'm gonna use it to write my own noob review of the game. I've tried EVE twice before only getting past the tutorial before losing interest but I'm forcing myself to play through the game for the full 21 days to actually experience the most you can of the universe in 21 days. First thing I noticed was that the character creation wasn't the same as it was the last two times I played. Before you had windows to navigate each option where now it is all done in the same window. It also seemed like there were a lot less options then before, such as I didn't pick any of my stats or my "career" that had some basic abilities. Once into the game I noticed I had a different starting ship and skills then I had the last two times I tried the game. It has been a while and I'm sure a lot has changed in the game as well as the chance that I might have picked a different race. I picked some skills to train before starting the tutorial and then went ahead and did it for the third time. The tutorial itself seemed to be slightly different then the last two times I've played as well but I went through it easily enough. Once I finished with it I noticed that I had the option to "reamp" my stats which were set by defult to be completely equal. After docking at the station and completing the two tutorial missions it the let me choose a path of military, business, or industry. I decided to do industry but didn't have enough cargo space to do his mission so I decided to wait on going any further. I went out in search of an asteroid field to mine some stuff, just to test it out. While out at the asteroid field I noticed some mining drones just sitting around so I took one of them and went about mining. Upon heading back to the station I refined the ore that I had and went to sell it. I wa kinda confused at first but quickly learned how to use the menu. One issue I did have was selling the mining drone I picked up. I had to move it from drone bay to items...it wouldn't sell in my cargo bay. Also I had to repackage it (If some veteran EVE player is reading this please let me know what the purpose of repackaging is.) Also noticed that the unrefined ore is worth more then the refined productes which seemed a little weird to me...
So I've probably played a total of four hours and still have 19 days to try the game out. Havent joined a corp yet but it seems like a lot fo them want your login info to stalk you and see all the stuff you trained (I don't fully understand what they have access too.) I'll continue to update this as I play more and now for my noob review of four hours. Pros: Options: You have lots of options. I can't really expand on this because it goes into what I consider a con for the game as well.
Cons: Complexity: I know this might be seen as a plus to most people but some things seem to complex. I'm going to assume it's me being a complete noob, but when I want to sell something and it takes five times longer then it does in other mmos then I see it as a con. I'm guessing this is where EVE players come in saying EVE is for intelligent people because each of the options has a purpose such as selling to specific people but at the moment my only goal is to sell the crap ore I can't do anything with for money which is useful for me. I lvoe the player economy and I love the options, but simple tasks take five times the amount of buttons to press opposed to other games. Like I said this is probably me still being a noob and not being able to use certain items and not having a specific goal...also not knowing all the keyboard shortcuts makes finding what I want seem a lot harder then it is.
Still not sure if I'm going to subscribe or not, gonna wait til I start doing mroe ingame, but I can definatly say that people who enjoy cockpit view, dogfighting space sim combat will probably not enjoy the action EVE. I recommend trying the game out but some other good space sims are X3 Terran Conflict, Evochron Renegades, Freespace 2, and Allegiance. Make games you want to play. |

You need to place items from your cargo hold to the Stations hold so you can sell it on the market from that station. I don't understand the problem. In WoW you drag the item you want to sell into a auction window and set the price and click sell. In Eve you drag the item to the station hold and right click the item and select sell then ok. I don't see how thats five times longer to do than in a game like WoW.
Also in the tutorial if you dont have enough cargo space during a mining or indy mission you could usually finish it in two or three trips. No need to stop and wait. As you play more you will get the hang of it. What makes sense in Eve doesn;t make sense in other games due to Eves setting. To me having to unload my ship to sell items makes sense. I kinda understand what your saying. What I meant by the five times longer was in a game like WoW where I just drag a drop and click sell. In EVE I moved my drone from my drone bay to my cargo and then to the station hold and then found a buy at teh station and then repackaged it before selling. I know it is just being a noob to the game but it took a while for me to find the drone bay and then I didn't know that it couldn't be in my cargo... I'm sure I'll get the hang of it but it definatly takes longer then selling to an NPC in other games. Make games you want to play. |

Repackaging is what it means - you can only trade packaged items, makes sense on a realistic viewpoint, you had to first repackage the drone before selling it in the market. About the ore price it has a lot of factors which will once again fall into the complexity cons for you so I will try to keep it simple. In EVE there is no universal auction house (and no NPCs purchasing your stuff with set prices - only in very few cases), when you wish to buy something you place a buy order with varying ranges (considering the huge universe, you'll have an incredible price variation per location depending on supply & demand), pay attention to the % that the selling price is compared to the regional average before selling.

You can move drones from drone bay to station hold. Repackaging is basically turning an item from used to new so you can put it on the market. Kinda like trying to put a damaged item into WoWs auction house. It would give you an error unless you repaired it.

I understand that, but my goal was to get rid of the ore which I had no purpose of to the highest buyer at the station. I didn't really care about good deals or anyhting since the ore was trash to me. Even if the ore had a purpose to me I still wouldn't have known but I just wanted the cash and don't wanna jump through holes for it. As for the repackaging thing...it just seems like an extra step to do. That said I'm gonna take metals advice and do the "career" starter missions sicne I now know I can bring stuff back in a couple trips. Maybe I'll start to learn what stuff is good for. Also does it cost money to repackage things...I didn't notice lol. Kinda like how I don't wanna nitpick about the .00 ISK since people do price stuff with varring percentages of an ISK, but I'm sure it would have been fine with a solid integer. You can do what I do just reprocess everything you find. Right click the item in the station dock and click reprocess and then ok. Reprocessing is like disenchanting in wow. It breaks things like drones and modules down to refined materials. most of the time reprocessing yeilds more isk than just selling the item outright. You can quickly stock pile the reprocessed items and avoid the .01isk sellers and then at the end of your session sell it off in bulk quickly. I always hated going through every item and actually brining it to a different station. just turn that shit into trit or whatever material those usually sell good in every station. Yep you can reprocess most items even whole ships. If your looking to refine ore and make a good profit you need refining skills and you need to gain standing for that particular Npc corp so you have less waste. After running the tutorials pick a mining agent and run missions with them that will be your dedicated refining station. There's a lot to Eve. Worse thing you can do is judge this game to quickly. I took 6 Trials to get into the game. PLaying: EvE, Ryzom Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum |

No, they want your api key. A way to give out limited information about your character without disclosing your actual login detail. The reason is simple. They don't trust you. You could be an alt on the same account of a main in a rivaling corporation or alliance trying to infiltrate their ranks. They want to be sure you're the real deal. This is also why most corps will want to have a chat on teamspeak/ventrilo/comms of choice with you before you join. To be honest, i'd be downright insulted if a corp didn't want to check if we fit together. I'd see that as a lack of interest.. |

Ok, thank you for clearing that up. I completely understand wanting to know someone before you let them in their corp but I didn't know about the api key and what it excatly showed people. The EVE University talks about skill points and amount of money you have with your api key...but they also state they want your UserID, which I might have misunderstood for login info. Couple major things why you need to repackage items: As for the rest of the post, you're just new and it will take some time to understand why there are things they way they are.
There are no NPC you can sell stuff to. 97% of what you see on market are player transactions. If you don't want to deal with "putting it on the market.", you have couple options: |

Ok, this is bothering me. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong for the life of me and no guides or players in game have been able to explain it to me. http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/7307/eve20091108024120.png Basiclly I am supposed to mine ore and bring it back...so I got the ore and brought it all back but I can't complete the mission because one of the objectives isn't met...which is bring back the ore >< Make games you want to play. |

Place the ore into station hangar('Items'). |
