Hello everyone,

I've been thinking of getting this game for a long time, and I have to say that the trial's really drawn me in. The only thing I'm worried about is how the game will fare a few months from now, when all the game jumpers are gone and only the re-subscribers are left. Like many of you probably have happen before, I've pre-ordered/bought a few games that failed within their first year, and are trying not to go out of business, and I don't really feel like using up another 50 bucks if that's the case.

So, how do you think the game will fare in the near future? A bit of an explanation behind your reasoning would be much appreciated. Oh, and try to keep all fanboi/trolling bias to a minimum. :)

Cheers everyone

It's subjective I know, but so far every single game that I liked has grown and thrived (WoW - i know, but you have to start somewhere :), EQ2 - ok, not as much thrived, but still there, LOTRO, EVE, GW), and I really love this one. On the other hand, I hated Tabula Rasa... and it's dead... so... :D

I would most certainly bet on FE staying and growing for years.

Thoughts like these are the problem with the MMO community/genre these days. You seem to really be enjoying the game, but if we all tell you itll be garbage in 6 months will you stop playing? If not why even ask? If so why? If you continue to play for the next 6 months and enjoy that time then by then it wont matter to you if people start dropping off.

Youll never find a game with that mentality. Its the mentality Ive had for the past couple of years and I decided to give it up and just play what I enjoy regardless of reviews, subscription numbers, or whatever else.

You are lucky enough to have found a game you like in this genre these days, do yourself a favor and dont let any of us ruin it for you. Stay away from the forum and just play : )

And my two cents, Fallen Earth if anything will end up like the EVE community, slowly growing and evolving in positive ways over time, its a solid community who love their game.

You spend $50 on any single player vid game, right?  Well, there's certainly enough content to justify buying it as though it were a single-player game.  I can certainly see that from my free trial.  If  you're having fun, why worry about its future?  Anything could happen in 6 months, the least of which would be this game closing.

I really wish it was as simple as "just keep playin' and don't worry!", but a lot of factors based on other players determine if a game can be fun, or even playable.

A few good examples would be doing group missions, PvP, the later town conflicts, etc. If the poulation dies off as soon as I hit a good level, it kinda ruins the experience, and all the work I've put into trying to get to endgame, and the endgame is not there....well, it's a bit hard to explain. Population makes a MMO, I'm not talking WoW, not at all, but an MMO needs enough players to keep the game alive and keep you playing.

Although I've beaten this example to death, look at how Pirates of the Burning Sea fared. It started out strong, you couldn't go 30 seconds on the high seas without seeing atleast a few players, and PvP was always fun and alive. Fast forward 6 months, the population has died down quite a bit, less PvP, less of a "MMO" feel, and more of a "Single player" feel. Fast forward once again to the present, well, lets just say the game is on it's deathbed, barely hanging on while the Devs play the role of "we know better than our players, and we'll do what WE like". It was a good game, just badly executed by bad staff.

Anyways, all I'm saying is, this is the type of game I've been looking for for a while now, and I'm loving the experience. I just don't want a "Pirates of the Burning Sea downfall" or worse, a "Tabula Rasa abrupt end" to ruin my gaming experience. *sigh* It's hard to find a MMO with all those features these days....

Poor Tabula Rasa....

I've been hearing a lot of "this game's subscriptions will become like EVE", and I'm really starting to believe it.

The 2 games have definitely something in common, no doubt. I mean, EVE and FE (not EVE and TB) :DD

Console game comparison really doesn't work. Most console games can be played fully by yourself, on the other hand even with more focus on solo activity, you miss out on major aspects if not many people are playing.

Also while it may be a lowly, entertainment level investment of time, its still an investment of time. I actually like Vanguard quite a bit but the apparent lack of any future major content updates keeps me away. Maybe I raid for a bit, get all kinds of cool stuff, then what? With EverQuest 2 its pretty safe bet that at least advancements via expansions will keep coming, even EverQuest 1 is still getting expansions.

So for me and apparently others, the decision to keep playing a MMO is mostly or at least partly based on the promise of future updates and content. I don't want my passion to keep playing to outlive the game itself.

This game will be fine, and will probably still be growing in numbers in 6 months. No one here is a fortune teller but there are trends that can be followed. FE is not perfect, but they are closer to the mark in regards to the overall big picture, than most MMO's.

Well there's your problem right there. Fallen Earth is SOOO not about getting to the end game as fast as possible. If that is your focus as you play through the game, you are totally missing the point and should quit now... I'm serious. I haven't had this much fun caring less about getting to the level cap in an MMOG since, well I can't remember. I've been wrong before, but I have a really good feeling about where FE is going in the future...

That's the problem with the MMO crowd these days.

People dont enjoy themselves in games, they 'work' in them. So they are worried what will happen to their 'investment'.

OP if you are worried about your time 'investment' and you are not doing it for the fun factor, stay away from games all together; instead work overtime, pick another job, start a degree, pick up some seminars, start a sport, join a team, learn how to sail.

Your time will be much more well invested.

Why does every mmorpg have to provide 10 years of entertainment to be considerd a success?

If FE lasts me 6 months ill be very satisfied....hell aion only lasted me a month (shortest ive ever played a mmorpg i purchased)

Plus the v ery nature of mmorpgs allows you to return and pick up where you left off, which i do on a lot of games.

These are games not long term relationships.

Oh and the "looking for the next wow crowd" that your speaking of isnt here, it doesnt take very long to realize that the FE community is a bit diffrent from the typical "game hopper" club.

My hope is that in 6 months they will have added more areas and raised the level cap a bunch.

I agree with this assessment. I couldn't put my finger on one of the compelling aspects of FE until I read this.  There's a lot of fun to be had 'in the moment' with FE, and I too feel no rush to push through 'levels'.

I believe that Falen Earth will be around for a very long time. I do think that a few small changes are going to have to made if is going to survive though. I think targetting needs to be tightened up a bit (My crosshair is positioned right over the NPCs chest and somehow I missed), and of course lag is one of the bigest complaints right now. I also think that they will have to everntually institute some sort of player housing and perhaps some sort of teritory type PvP (we want this city/village so we can own the newly discovered copper mine, hand it over or we'll take it). But these are just some of the things I think are going to need to be addressed at some time or another, so this is all opinion based.

What I thought would have been really neat to see while I was playing the trial, were random quest NPCs traveling the roads, quest NPCs that track "you" down, the rare sighting of a helicopter flying overhead, maybe TV's in certain places that would randomly bring up a news reporter with small pieces of information as to the status of the country, the world, etc.. I think these small tidbits would greatly increase the immersion factor.

Though I do think it is a great game (Or has outstanding potential) Things just felt sort of empty. Now I do understand that is kind of the point and that this is still a new game, I just think it would go along way to see some things like small scale battles for resources, territories, etc..

As I said, I only played the trial and haven't had the time to study up more on the game, so if anyone has any information on any of this, please share it. I thoroughly enjoy the theme and ideas that the game is built on, so I hope to see it evolve and become a truely execptional game beyond what people consider to be standerd for todays MMORPGs.

i love this game.  i've spent ours just running around gathering mats just to do some crafting all day.  not killing a single mob unless i had to.  i just hit 23 and honestly, i don't even care about the end game.  the story has drawn me in so much that rushing through the game would just ruin it.

i love the fact that it's only set in the southwest right now.  there's still the whole rest of the country to go and then the world.  it can only get better.

It's not so much about the end-game, as "I want there to be people when I reach end-game, so I'll have as much fun as I'm having now". I know it's a lot to ask, but I want a really good experience throughout the game, not just at certain part. *cough* Age of Conan *cough*  It's a great game, and I'm having a really good time, but I want it to last..

Well, in the end, there isnt a single person who can predict how it will be doing in 6 months, not even the devs. So just keep on playin, if it starts to dwindle and you cant stick it out, move on : )

But honestly, I think FFXI is the best MMO since UO. It *can* be really hard to find parties in FFXI, but the people who have been playing for at least a year refuse to leave because the game is just too damn good once you get past the learning curve. In the end the people who stay end up forming huge guilds so they always have people to do things with.

It's not the investment, it's the availablity. The post after yours put it well, I might get bored down the road, and want to take a break. If I return in a few months, I'm hoping that I'll be able to play where I left off, or even start over. Maybe there will be a few updates within the period I took a breaak, even better! I'm just hoping that this game will be around for a while, so that if I want to come back after a break and start a new character, there will be people to do missions with in the starter towns, S1, etc.

Which is why I've level 22 and just now getting to "The Oasis" in upper S1 on my way to S2. You see some other folks talking about "The earliest you can get into S2 is level 18 or 17". Well, I'm not in that hurry. I wanted to experience as much of S1 as I could and that took me 4-5 full levels over 17 and 18. Course I'm old school "journey not destination" mindset, not the "omg I gotta reach cap so I can win or for the game to start so I can win so I can move on to the next game". If I find something I'm happy with I'll spend as much time as I can with it.

As for the game lasting...I don't know and it may be a  and ancient weapons gut type feeling, but there's something about the whole FE /Icarus circumstance that just feels like it isn't going the route of a Tabulas Rasa. The game feels more complete that Darkfall did (to me) and is more well rounded than AoC or WAR (again, to me). Is it rough around the edges? Yep, but they are smoothing it out with each patch.

I got not "warning flags" with this one yet. As long as that continues to be the case, they'll have my subscription.

"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."

As you said, if I get bored and want to take a break, I want to be able to return and still find groups to do missions with. That's what I meant to get across with this thread, that the game's population will be healthy, not "100k subscribers" or anything like that. Well, that, and the game has a long lifetime (not 10 years, but one can hope)

One thing that I love about FE is the community, it's fairly mature, compared to a few other games. By "game hoppers", I just meant those initial players who buy/try the game, don't like it and leave. Every MMO has this within the first few months, and I'm just trying to get a rough estimation of how high/low the population will be after these players have come and gone.

Also, I agree within 6 months I hope a few updates have been made, I've heard a rumour or two about a housing update in the near future...
