Other than what games have the second most players you have not really said what you look for in an mmo. |

People that are suggesting WoW clones to the op are wrong. Don't play a game that will remind you of WoW play a new type of mmo, go for sci-fi, maybe sandbox or leave the genre altogether and play single player games for a couple years. EQ2,VG,Lotro, Aion, WAR, AoC are all below average clones. Sure they have a couple good features but overall cannot touch WoW. If your stuck on fantasy, themepark games only just go back to WoW and roll an alt because none of the other fantasy games compare. It's almost as if people play those games just so they could avoid the most popular mmo on the market. It's similar to people hating the more popular sports team or rock band because everyone else likes it and they try to rage against the machine. The fantasy themepark genre is so fucking worthless right now a average game like wow is king its sad.
I personally despise the term, 'wow clone'... But it is, I guess, one way of saying, 'this is and that COMPARED to wow is blah.' Which sucks, because comparing one game to another with the same genre will always find elements that are similar to each other. yes, I agree with your suggestion: if niche sandbox games does not suit you, stop playing mmo altogether and just stick with single-players or go find another hobby or something.

Well if you still like fantasy MMO's there is always L2 if you don't mind the grind after 60+ and poor quests in the game. |

Just stop pretending, IF you are really bored with WOW, those games are a great way to the nut house. AND ... in the long run they kill ALL further intrest in playing otherforms of MMO's (like I always said). Even DK 64 had MORE originallity than the Wow clones.
Dont use the term "WoW Clone" I would prefer if you said Everquest clones and put WoW in the same bag as the others. One of the coolest cloning is the barrens in wow to look totally like the commonlands in EQ, what the heck, even the village is called crossroads... =P |

dude i was in the same situation as you (as i'm sure a lot of people are). I played WoW for just over 4 years, while the game is probably the best mmo out there still to date. After you play anything for that long its just meh same ol right? I've played almost every mmo out there since WoW well the big names (WAR , AoC, Aion). DO NOT TRY AION the game is fucking terrible, i'd give a bunch of reasons but you can just google aion and i'm sure you'd find enough info. I agree with warhammer which just didn't have good gameplay. Age of Conan is actually a decent game, however i was part of the people who were there at launch and i'm still bitter towards them launching a game that should of stayed in development for another year. I dunno if you're a console player but there are shit loads of titles comming out, there are a lot of decent looking mmos on the horizon. Basically what i'm saying is you should probably wait till the spring and not waste your money on titles right now. NO mmo since WoW release has as good gameplay, content (oh god not even close - lol aion), depth, or in game support (lol aion again). In short any mmo right now you'll just be like wow this freaking sux compared to WoW. I wasted 130 bucks total from Aion/War and both those games were a HUGE dissapointment. don't end up like me just be patient! I've come to realize that anything similar to WoW will have you interested for about a month until you realize its just not as good as WoW. None of the mmo's to date aside from EVE and some of the fps-style mmo's are any different, in short most are just shitty versions of WoW. |

I ask because I played back in '99-2000ish, and last I recall... there was EC and WC... and it had some sand on the tunnel-side where people held the bazaar at, and a lot of green on the other near nektulos. If the issue was that other games were not as fun as WOW then you would have still been playing it. You got bored of WOW cause you got burned out. When I quit WOW about 2 years ago I played WAR but I realized that I was not satified. So I took a break from MMOs until Aion came out. It really renewed my hunger for MMO's and I got to play a lot of console games I had been missing. I suggest that everyone take a break and enjoy your console. Most games can be rented or purchased cheap and you give yourself a break from MMOs which everyone needs. MMO's are like realationships you need a break/space in order to appreciate them. |

I felt the same way after leaving UO and at the time, when the environment took a nose-dive for an artificial emphasis. I've made the rounds in about every mmo since then and not one has kept my attention for the player-driven, open, and player accessible environment of pre Trammel. WoW kept my attention for 6 months, and several mmorpgs since then.
Right now, the best mix of very well blended pve and pvp, imho, as well as the exhaustive depth and bredth of player-involved game-play is Aion. At the same time, I am watching Mortal Online for its more exemplified player-emphasized environment, and their departure from the emphasis on pve whack-a-mole grind. |

Yeah, I know how you feel! Still playing UO for more than ten years now. Had a couple of breaks and tried other MMOs. Well, I don't have to mention that nothing even comes close to UO. Even EA-UO wipes the floor with all MMOs out there. But: of all MMOs I tried after UO, I liked WoW best. Not because it has a good gameplay, or good graphics: it simply is "working" and done professional. @ original poster: So do not try any other WoW-clones (which are in fact EQ-clones) out there. Just stick to WoW because it is the best - when it comes to PvE content, I highly doubt, that there is another game with that many options. Even LotRO will not come close! - when it comes to PvP and balancing: WoW is best. Period! Warhammer is awful (and its all about PvP), not balanced and highly repetetive. AoC is even worse. Aion I will not even mention. EQ2, Vanguard, FFXI - there is no PvP worth to mention. I feel you have three alternatives: - Stick to WoW - Play a WoW-clone (but don't do that ;) - Play a good MMO like UO or Eve Online I like to log into WoW from time to time to PvP with my rogue, make some duels etc., but after that I simply log out and log into UO again. I tried Mortal Online. But why should I play that? Its simply a clone from UO with modern graphics. So I will stick to the original. @ Cik_Asalin: Get yourself on one the bigger UO-Freeshards like Defiance or Hybrid. Its almost like in the old times. Even when it comes to playerbase (especially Hybrid). Great faction battles, lots of O/C and of course: no Trammel. |
