So, thanks to that awesome informative thread from the other day, about why Eve sucks, we all know why it sucks. I mean, the opinion of one person is truly indicative of the game.

But, you see, I decided to give it a shot myself again. Haven't tried Eve out in a couple of years. Silly me.

My point is, does anyone have any pointers or advice to someone getting into Eve Online? Anything to watch out for, to do or not do?

I'm also considering, if I decide to stick with it for a bit, trying to write a Correspondent article. But, we'll see.

the people who complain about eve are usually the ones who solo in other mmo's. so, if your not a billy no mates and you enjoy the company of other players, then eve could be the game for you!  whatever type of gameplay you prefer, being a member of a corporation is a must, without it, your just a statistic on someones killboard.

new players, do the starter missions, and find a corp, the help and advice isnt just useful.. its vital

1) Do the tutorial.  No really, even though you've played before, do it again.

2)  Read a new player guide or two, this one is pretty good.

3)  Join a corp as soon as you can.  Start with EVE University or some other major alliances training corp, but get in and you'll find the game much more fun. You may use the in game recruiting channel (a bit challenging at times) or take your time and visit this link here:

4) While you're new, try it all.  Don't just join up and run missions or mine, go out and explore.  Jump in a starter ship and go into low sec or 0.0 space and let them blow yourself up. (make sure your jump clone is up to date though). Jump into a combat frigate like a Rifter and try to kill someone in 0.0 (or sit in a belt until someone comes to jump you).  You'll probably lose, but hey, you'll get a chance at combat and learn something.

5)  Don't Autopilot anywhere unless you are going afk for an hour.  (and it better be an empire location, and make sure your autopilot setting is on "safer"

6)  If a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is.  No one is trading ISK at a 1:10 ratio,  selling Navy Ravens for 130 million, and no, the Goon Swarm does not openly recruit, so please don't pay them 100M in initiation or docking fees. 

7) Get the hell outta Jita.  Lots of other great trade hubs including Amarr Throne Worlds and Rens, check them out.

8) Never, ever fly a ship you can't afford to lose (2 or 3 times over)  You'll ignore this advice, and later gnash your teeth wondering why you didn't listen to me.  Don't worry, I did it too......

Fly Safe, Have Fun, and take a break from time to time.

good advice, though personally i'd advise anyone wanting to try out pvp for the first time to get involved with the faction wars its a good trainer and you tend to find fleets easier, but, good advice nonethless

i played eve and i solo 99% of the time i was a member of a 00 corp but all i like to do is mine, and defending our space was not to much fun for me, not every one plays games to be social, some just enjoy the game world, i like eve but i moved on cause that is just me i never stay with any game more then a few months now...

so yes eve is good fun for  players that don't have the time for a corp, it's not just a group game, you can mine and run missions for isk if you only have a half hour to play, but some missions take a long time to finish but you can log off and just lose the time bonus payout and still come back to finish it later when you do have time.

"More options?" Really? As far as I've been able to tell, the only missing "option" is the ability to take a walk. Open sandbox, open career paths, robust UI - it's actually a great game.

 Join EVE University.

My opinion is right btw.  You know, I've played many MMORPGs, and I know a failure of an MMORPG when I see one.  

The only people who defend EVE are addicted to the game, because they've maintained a subscription for such a long time and can't think rationally about how broken the game is.

Want to really play though?  Find a 5-6 year old character and buy it, because if you start one your character will be garbage compared to anyone who maintained a subscription for a longer period of time. 
 

But whatever, go ahead and play it.  When you find yourself with more ISK than you can spend, because the games horrible advancement system(designed for ebayers / lazy players) held you back, you'll realize I was right.  And I am right, this is true.

You should try mybrute, that uses a similar progression system to EVE.  Come back tomorrow for 3 more fights

Paint your room. Get a chair and watch the paint dry. Learn to appreciate the different tones of the paint through the process. Be one with the paint.

When you have leant to enjoy this process then go outside and watch the grass grow. Feel it. Be the grass slowly evolving under the sun.

When you have learnt to grow like grass then you are ready to play and enjoy EVE or enter a Kung-Fu temple.

Sure, don't waste your time playing it. Go play something that's more entertaining.

Ah, foolish, foolish boy.  The people who dislike Eve are the ones who want to be piloting Titans in two weeks and QQ when they realise they can't, or people who don't like the steep learning curve.  If you want excitement in the game, you have to head towards it, just as in real life, not plod away trading or mining 100% of the time. If full pvp battles, with full loot, with other players where character skills count as much as player skills doesn't get your adrenaline up, you're not meant for a pvp game at all.

If you stay in Safe Sec systems, pounding rocks all day, and trudging from one star system to the next to trade continually, of course the game isn't very entertaining - and it just shows a lack of imagination on the player's part.

Not really.  The players who want to buy their way to the top whimper a great deal, and then drum their heels because they can't be as good as a player who has been in the game a couple of years longer than them.  Gosh, how unjust is that, eh!  Having to WORK at something to be really good at it!  Unbelievable, eh?

As I've said in another post, the players who think it's boring just hug the safe systems like a teddy bear because they're frightened to head out and mix it up in full-on, no holds barred, full loot pvp.  They haven't the brains, balls or the aptitude to take a risk, therefore "the game sucks" when in point of fact the player is a useless pile of shit.

My opinion is right, btw.
