So I've been playing Dragon Age for a little while now. The game is absolutely amazing. I can't even describe how awesome it is. It is perfect as a single player game, too... but if they (one day) made an MMO exactly like this, it would be unstoppable.

For any of you who love MMOs, and haven't played this yet, try it out and I'm sure you'd agree. It has every aspect of the perfect MMO. It'd take too long for me to describe anything, but I'd like to hear from others who have tried it. What do you think? Do you think if they made an MMO like this (obviously they'd have to tweak it a little), but I mean even if the quest system was like it is in Dragon Age, it'd be awesome.

Anyone else agree?

Would you play an MMO based on/similar to Dragon Age?

In a heartbeat! It would be insanely awesome!
Possibly, but I doubt it'd be as amazing as the single-player game.
No, I don't think it'd work.
No. It'd work, but I don't like thst style.

If you stand VERY still, and close your eyes, after a minute you can actually FEEL the universe revolving around PvP.

Yeah .. it is a good game. Thus, i expect TOR to be as amazing as DA.

It wouldn't work as well as it does for a single player game, but from what I've seen of it so far from digging into it the past evenings it would certainly be awesome for multiplayer.

Neverwinter Nights 1 had a tremendous cult following of small groups of players (2-6 or so) using it as a pencil+paper substitute of a normal RPG session, with one player using the editor tools to script NPC's, create the adventure area, act as an Online Host Dungeon Master as the players would progress, etc. If Dragon Age was given that capability in the near future, I think it would substantially draw AWAY a respectable percentage of MMORPG players to play Dragon Age.

Many MMORPG players are currently bouncing between 2 games to keep from getting bored. A group of friends running an ongoing computer campaign via Dragon Age with editing tools for multiplayer would drop a good deal of them down to a single MMORPG account and play with this instead.

Installing it at the moment.

I'll report back in a few hours once I emerge from my self-contained gaming cocoon.

I played the game at PaX and yes it is very well done.  However it was just too bloody for my tastes.  Can you turn the blood effects off?

I just picked it up, and hope to have plenty of time to check it out, this weekend.

I'm not sure how it would work out as a MMO, but it does have a online/co-op mode that looks like it will come in with an update or two. You can notice this by the descriptions on the down loadable content when you get to certain quests. I haven't yet been able to download any of this content, but I will be trying sometime this weekend. Bio-ware can truly develop single player RPG's with an amazing story line. I find myself staying up way to late playing this game and watching every cut scene because they are rather interesting. I also like the fact that what you do and what you say really does affect the world in some way. The only nitpick in this game is no voice for your character in the cut scenes. Other than that, the best RPG I've played since Baldur's Gate. If you have not bought it, go grab it up. It's well worth the money.

i totaly agree with you the game is amasing i got it when it com out and had the DLC issue but got fixed and once i started playing it nearly 5 hours passed without me even noticing somthing that even mmos have not been able to do for awhile now. Im also looking forward to star wars mmo and hope that the story is as good if so i think that the game will be able to hold my attention for a long time.

Im enjoying DragonAge also, take me back to bauldergate only without the constant CD swapping.

two issues I have..

1. IT BLOODY HARD! sadly I did not take Morgain down the healer path and only just have and even with just 1 heal spell its becoming more managable. Allistair is next to usless to.

2. Auto saves.. or lack of them, manay a times ive played for 30mins only to die and go all the way back to some other point, it shouls autosave when you "camp" IMHO.

Other than thats its a great story.. looks like I got an assasin on my ass =D

HI!

It wouldn't be as good.  It would have to be dumbed down for the average gamer.

So many stories to tell in the Dragon Age world, I think it would be an instant hit.

Heheh I was thinking the same thing.

If they were going for a specific type of player, then they could keep the same level of depth and complexity to it, and it would do fine.

But if they were trying to reach that ever-coveted "WoW Status", or anywhere close to it, they'd have to dumb it... errr... "streamline" it, to appease the people who would invariably be complaining about how:

- leveling isn't fast enough / not enough xp rewards for every little thing.
- too much "meaningless crap" (read: content that they'd rather blast through or avoid) keeping you from getting to end game faster
- "What? I have to group with 3 other people in order to take down that elite Demon Overlord at the end of this epic quest line? That's *so unfair*! Everything should be soloable or this MMO sucks and is doomed to fail! /ragequit"
- the crafting system isn't easy enough; requires more than one button push and so it's too complex
- mana drains too quickly and it's not fair to make them learn how to play more intelligently by using strategy and managing their mana better, because it isn't "fun" to have to use your head when playing a game
...

I'm sure there's others I'm missing. Sad thing is, I've read/heard those same complaints many times across a number of MMOs. I'm  not sure when it became "law" that games must be as easy, uninvolved and patronizing as possible in order to be "fun"... but I'm glad I never got the memo; apparently, neither did Bioware, which is good.

But I agree... a MMO with the depth of DA would be amazing.

I'm hoping they allow something like what they did with NwN... where you can create a custom world, and run it as a mini MMO for others to log in and play. I know they're releasing the world editor so people can make custom stuff.. so that might well be possible. I mean, they saw the longevity the Aurora toolset gave NwN...

This game is quite fun,. They could make a great MMO out of it!

(AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH fights Archdeamon in plunger to claw combat! Morrigan is impressed!)

Everyone on MMORPG.com before every thread put the letters IMO as you and I dont speak for the gaming community or anyone else.

Sorry do not agree with you at the point to make this a MMORPG, but will agree that I love playing DA.

And saying they have to tweak it a little, is a understatement, you cant tweak a singleplayer game alittle to make it a MMORPG, they need to completely rebuild the game from the ground up, and even then tech has it limits.

There are so many great singleplayer games that work great because they are singleplayer games, even with Dragon Age we see tons of people who want to play it but are unable to due to system requirement, now picture the same requirement for it to be a MMORPG.

Well I don't think anyone would suggest they take DA, slap a multiplayer framework on it and put it online as is. It would obviously require a lot of reworking to make it work as a MMO. I think what they're getting at is the overall quality and depth and variety of the gameplay itself.

Disclaimer: I have not played Dragon Age yet

I don't think that this would make a good MMOs. From what people are saying about it, it is an excellent game, but the main thing with MMOs is you have multiple people. 99.5% of games that get branded "would be awesome as an MMO" would honestly fail because of it (I'm looking at you Bioshock). You have multiple people going for mobs at the same time, you have economies you need to worry about, and make other things to take into consideration. Just imagine if you had your game now and you added 15 people into the same instance of the world. I can't see that being fun at all, in fact it would probably be an entirely differnt feel to the game.

If you had it so you could say have your friends join your game and play with you I think that could translate well. Either lock them to one character or be able to bump over to the other characters that are not selected. Four people with a common goal is mind is a whole lot better than 4 people all thinking about how they can beat the game individually.

The overall quality and depth is due to it being a singleplayer game and tech allows for that. I Never said anything about slapping a multiplayer framework on it, I just responded to what OP excactly said and that was "they need to tweak it a little".
