So yea i'm pretty much done with the conventional mmo, i played wow for just over 4 years. Got bored of it, and i've been trying to fill that void ever since, i played WAR/AoC/Aion each just didn't hold my interest for a variety of reasons.

So now i'm thinking maybe i'm just sick of the same mmo, and i'd like to try something different. I was considering either this game or Darkfall. Anyone have suggestions if you've played them both?

I never played Darkfall but I'm pretty sure the game is non-consensual open PVP while Fallen Earth is consensual PVP only, designated areas marked on the map where you can PVP, not all over the place.

That's a very big difference in main feature, play style and comunity.

Choose wisely heh.

I haven't played Darkfall, but I know it's pvp system is pretty hardcore. Like the poster above me said, FE's pvp is in designated areas. Once you go in those areas, you'll never know what you will find as far as other players. You might find someone several levels above or below you there. If you can survive in there though, you will get to some good scavenging nodes (source of mats for crafting).

To me, Fallen Earth can be played differently.

1. You can commit yourself to be a full time crafter in this game, you still get xp as you scavenge materials and build up your tradeskills, also you can get nice HUGE xp on creating items thats are difficult. The game is still level based (1 to 45) right now, however if your a crafting machine, you will notice your minutes, being hours and your hours being days slip by crafting alone.

Most likely, you will not even pay attention your Level, because all you will be worried about is making sure your tradeskill numbers are capped so you can qualify for the next recipe book to create the latest and newest things.

Make note: You will still have to do missions, because most of the S1 starter towns give Recipe books for crafting (Midway / South Burb). This also gives you time to build up your skills in either melee, rifle or pistol, also hunt down AP mission and drop AP points into your stat skills like Perception and Intelligence if your going the crafter route.

2. You can play the game as well by doing missions (usually players will pick combat towns like Zanesville) to start off and will receive armor and weapons as rewards as you progress thru the levels. AP is the talk of this game and you want to know where to get every single AP possible in the beginning levels of S1. AP defines your character and how they will be once you hit level cap at 45 (for now).

Don't get me wrong, you can do both Combat and Crafting and make your character self sufficient, however if your just grinding to get to level 45 within a month, you may be passing a lot what Fallen Earth has to offer.

My buddy and I started together (Sept 9). I went the crafting / combat route and he went strictly combat. His crafting compared to mind really sucks, however he is at level 34 going into S3 and I am at level 20 going into S2 within the next 3 levels.

We almost invest about the same amount of time between 10 to 20 hours a week since Sept 9th.

Just remember, everyone plays differently, so if your looking for a long commitment to a game for crafting / pve missions and occasional PvP with a Mad Max / the Postman type Apocalyptic setting, then give a FE a try.

If your looking to get to End Game and Raid Bosses for epic phat shiny loot, then I would say FE isn't for you.  There are bosses and masters in the game, its the (master) you need to group up on to either finish a mission or get materials for your crafter.

Now I have only about finished Sector 1 level 20, so this is as good as I know up to now. If I am wrong in what I have said, I am pretty sure someone on mmorpg.com will tell us and fix my mistakes and make a few comments as well about their experience.

Good luck however in what you decide.

I based my decision to play this game off the fact it was a game set in the future where people are supposedly just crawling up from the apocalypse. I was reallly home for lots of tanks blown up, rotting bodies, images of war everywhere. The towns I hoped would be dangerous. People shooting each others, vendors lashing out. A game where it takes a group to survive and even then that group may kill you. Fallen Earth did not really provide this. It was fairly easy to begin and get to used to it.

PvP areas are fairly entertaining, but it does not get the heart racing. I did not get jacked up on adreline as I tried to kill a riffle weilder that was three levels higher than me. I hoped by dancing jumping straffing around him he would have a hard time shooting me. He did. I put 7 shots dead mass while he got two off. His two killed me. It is a good combat, I suppose. But not exciting. when my shots did so little to his overall health I knew I would die and have no chance.

Next I fought another level duel pistol wielder just like me. I wanted to see if I could pick up new tricks. That did not happen. I destroyed the other person over and over. Still not sure why.

I personally picked stats and skills that boosted Dodge Pistol and Armor. the Stats that help those three I boosted as well. I did do a lot of crafting. Armor, bullets, so and so forth.

The advice I give is research what you want to be first, what sounds neat, then get some sort of build in mind. If you do, you may waste AP and end up with a build you do not like. Do not research too much though. It is a game remember and should be treated as a game first and formost
