Would you like to see DAoC as we know it now, go to free to Play? As I remember playing DAoC for years, to this day it still has the best pure PvP model in the form of RvR...

Also would you like to see Mythic/BioWare develop DAoC2, think carefully before answering that question, Mythic has experience in the MMO genre, yes WAR fell apart, due to some very bad development moves, however I believe they would go more back to the roots to develop a DAoC2 model. Also, with BioWares fantasic story writing especially in the fantasy genre I could see a hybrid MMO of DAoC, with elements of NvN2, Dragon Age, and of course aspects of the old Republic. feature sets that they might use to immerse the player deep into the story..What if DAoC2 took place BEFORE DAoC, so it might be called something along the lines of golden Age of Camelot, or go further beyond DAoC's timeline, who knows. What do you think? Could it be done, and done right? Or would it be an Epic Fail?

My thoughts are:

DAoC $4.99/mo with new age graphics, models, and effects.

or

DAoC free to play with the announcement of DAoC2 (working title).

and

DAoC2 5 playable factions, and at least as many races/classes as before. Im tired of seeing 2 factions in games, 3 was awesome, but i feel 2 is like west vs east or north vs south, and thats it....Its time to up the anti a bit, if garage game designers like myself and my company of 8 employess can write a game design document in full detail and concept of a game with 16 playable factions and over 40 classes, than i think its time for the pros to stop copying each other and get back to thinking way outside the box and taking risks, afterall, most games are not succeding as planned.

I would love to see a DAOC 2 game in the works. The things that DAOC did so very well was of course real RvR. If you didn't want to rvr of course you didn't have to go into the frontiers, yet if you did there was group content and solo content.

The fact that they also had so many classes to choose from was awesome. Today the game companies are lazy, they include your warrior, priest, scout and mage in some combination thereof. DAOC was able to have so many classes and they were relatively speaking balanced. Yeah there were issues but overall it was so very well done.

Mythic is owned by EA now, I have absolutely no confidence they can release a good DAOC 2 given what we've seen with Warhammer Online.

Only DAOC 2 that would work is if Mark Jacobs buy back the rights to the IP and start up another company with some of the original DAOC developers, and have a go with it.

Just my opinion.

very understandable Point of view. I can agree with you, also i can disagree, as in the fact that EA owns Mythic yes, this had double edged standards. the idea of WARHAMMER Online was awesome, the exectution, not so much, how much of that Did EA have to do with? BioWare however will not share the same fate, even being owned by EA, i do beleive they were abel to keep thier creative efforts in tact with the Old Republic, seeing as how Lucas Arts is involved in the IP, and NOBODY is goign to bully Lucas, plain ans simple.

You brought up a great point, Mark jacobs is not there...So could we in fact see a Sequel from him, but maybe not named a sequel? I mean a game that looks, feels, and breathes DAoC, but is a new IP from Jacobs? I hope to see him back in action somewhere soon.

I would not play DAoC F2P. I don't battle with my credit card.

DAoC2 I would like to see. WAR was a big disappointment.

EA is known to have strict and often unnecessary regulations and restrictions. For example the people who eventually made up the company infinity ward used to be on the medal of honor series and left (almost half the team) because they weren't able to make a game they thought was good anymore. Then they split off and made call of duty. EA is really unreasonable sometimes and often discourages creativity and originality for a formula that works. Now, I can imagine EA still going with that working formula of level grind blah blah, but trying to add a spin to the game by making it PvP oriented and having RvR. But because they still had so many restrictions the team wasn't able to make all they changes they wanted for it to work.

I'm not saying that actually happened, but It does seem like something EA would do, knowing their history.

And they will not mess with bioware. They know they would get a shitstorm of angry letters and the games would not sell as well. Also I think a bunch of people from bioware would split off and make their own company if they mafe them do anything.

All speculation, again.

very good points made there Vexe, EA needs to learn that the MMO genre is a make it or break it genre by the community playign the games, we the players, have the power, not the companies, we the players pay thier salaries in a round about way, and why we are all not professionals in the industry, if there is ideas and solid workings in games that people want, they should at least consider our calls.

This is starting to sound like an MMO Players Constitution....(UH OH, lightbulb went off in head). I have been playign these MMO's for 10 years now... no one can make the perfect game to please everyone.

heres another thought, why dont games consider running both models Like DDO:unlimited does BUT with one major difference, Put all the free to Play people on thier own servers, and all the Sub people on thier own servers. makes it fair across the board, only downfall is if the game is lackin a population.

What known effect did EA have on the way the Developers made Warhammer?

What about Game Workshop? We know how they are.

EA's positive would have been in the marketing dept. For negatives name one EA MMO that is successful.... For Mythic name one MMO that is successful, there is a problem somewhere. they took a licensed IP incorported past ideals and concepts that were proven, but yet failed...Mythics successful MMO is still around, 8 years later..not much left, but still around making money, WAR has had to go top permanent free trials for tier 1 content, recruit a friend, etc... where was the recruit a friend 1 year from DAoC launch?? I was a HUGE WAR supporter, but the lack of content and the constantly revamped classes was what drove me and the majority of the poulation away. Games Workshop was there for continuity, they also built all of the keeps/city layouts from thier tabletop pieces, so that the artists and designers could fully understand each element of the tabletops function. thier confines would be from lore, and yet they were not strict enough. WARHAMMEr is a very DARK universe, the game really needed to be M for Mature and follow the confines of AoC, heads and limbs falling off, blood the whole 9 yards. Secodn they mess up classes liek the Chosen...the Chosen were not really "tanks" Dependign on thier GOD they were brutal vicious, dead, bloodthirsty maniacs...they developed the marauder class, which was depicted more so as what the choser should have been, they are the ones who go through the mutations, and the armor fusing to thier skin after beign slayed....they were the Chosen..

Again i would have to fault mostly EA, not GW, or Mythic

Everyone at Mythic could quit, mark jacobs could start  a new company, and we could see a type of DAoC2 game in the next 3 years, remember DAoC was developed in 18 months, i can not see a legend, a role model, and a person who changed the industry when no one thought that anythign could beat or take away from the EQ experience, just sit by and do nothing...

daoc has gone so far downhill... and people can't stop crying about the CC in daoc... it would be a totally noobed out game if they came out with a daoc 2 and would totally tarnish what fun the game used to be

I think if they came back as an indie team Dark Age 2 would be wonderful.  There was so much left of the mythical world to explore that was really never visited.  I think EA's impact on Dark Age was probably felt more so than you'd think.  I just don't see the same guys that brought us the complex strategies of the original RvR coming up with FFA or Capture the Flag Battlegrounds.  I think if you peel away some of those observations (and speculations) you start to see the little fingers of corporate EA in on the production saying "ADD this," or "Work this in."

As WAR progressed through production, WoW started to succeed and I believe (speculation again) that EA wanted to incorporate a side of frivolous WoW pvp into the Warhammer universe.  I don't mean such conventional things as graphics, but the FPS feel they tried to replicate for mass appeal.  I think if they would have just stuck to what made Mythic good in the first place, they would have appealed to the same niche consumers that kept DAoC alive for the first few years.
