In this thread i want to hear what small and inconsequential feature of an MMO is a huge negative for you in a game.
For me if i cant have a first and last name in an MMO its a huge negative to me. If i can put my mount in my pocket its a huge negative to me.
And people need to understand that games are for fun and if a feature annoys you enough to not play a game no matter how small it is that is OK. All these posts about Facts and rationality about games is ridiculous and i thought this post would be a good change of pace. Currently Playing: Fallen Earth |

I agree with the first and last name thing. At least LOTRO has a way for you to do that in game. Inconsistency in how the environment acts irritates me. I can run up the side of some cliffs but have difficulty with small hills? I can't run through bushes? I can bound over certain walls, but can't get up over a curb?

Small things that annoy: Cities that lore descibes as "huge, bustling, etc" being depicted in game as a small town with enough housing for about 10 families. Trees that I can walk through. Tiny bushes that I can't walk through or jump over. Gently sloping hills that I can't walk up. Water that doesn't cause fall damage no matter how high you are when you jump/fall into it. Mobs that melee you from 20ft away. Skinning a rabbit for 1 x leather, then skinning a mammoth for 1 x leather. |

having a huge death penalty. Persistent MMOs should let the player feel like their moving forward at some point and if death feels like you have to start over then I wont play it. Also to those who I know are going to complain about this: having a huge death penalty does NOT make the game harder. Look at other genres, most of them do not have huge death penalties that take forever to get back to where you wanted and yet, many can remain very difficult. On the reverse side, if a game has no death penalty it's also a turn off. "World of Warcraft is the perfect implementation of this genre." - Hilmar Petursson. CEO of CCP. |

I agree with the melee mobs, I've complained before about melee mobs being able to hit you from 30-40 feet away, on the other side of barriers, etc. Their arms aren't that long, they shouldn't be able to reach that far. I also hate bad object collision. I don't want to see the monsters on the other side of the wall. If you've got body parts sticking through the door, something is wrong. I also agree with not being able to walk up gentle sloping hills. If you don't want players going that way, make it a wall with no handholds. What I hate even more are the invisible walls. These tend to happen more when flying. You run into... nothing and can't go any farther. It makes no sense. Played: UO, EQ, WoW, DDO, SWG, AO, CoH, EvE, TR, AoC, GW, GA, lots more |

I understand that it was necessary back when we had dial up connections with frequent drops and huge latency, but its time has passed. |

No offline play. I know in order to do that you'd need a lot of files client side, and that'd open the door to massive exploitation... But if there was a way around it, I'd like to be able to play MMORPG's with "bot like" features of say, Guild Wars filling in where players could be. Also I know, defeats the purpose of the whole MMO thing... but sometimes I just don't have lots of time to dedicate to online group play, but would like the option to bounce back and forth. Otherwise when I pay my monthly fee, I feel like I'm obligated to play online "get my $$ worth" at the sacrifice of RL responsibilities. Lack of fishing. If the game doesn't have fishing, it really irritates me... Doesn't mean I won't play it, just means i won't like it. |

Lack of wildlife in the environment. If common wildlife is missing in an MMORPG world, it feels sterile, empty to me. "I am a WoW clone." Me |

-Killing wildlife. Nothing is more disturbing than sticking your sword in Bambi's eye. Seriously - fighting deers? -Spawning points and respawning. Very unimmersive way to conjure up cannonfodder. "Some things actually do seem to pop from the ground." -Ridiculously heavy weapons which can be swung by little girls. -Men in asian styled games that look like women. -Too much special effects. Hope you enjoy the lightshow - a basic swing will propably produce stars from my arse! -NPCs that, despite an ingame day-night-cycle, just stand there 24/7 JUST for you! How very dedicated. -Misleading or grossly insufficient skill/ability descriptions.

Item Shop system-- I cant stand this. Some people have a fear of using Real Life money online. And since we already have to pay a monthly fea online, the more we have to buy online, the more Unconfortable it gets. And Item Shops make you have to buy stuff, just to keep up with players that dont have a problem using it. Extreme Death Penilty--- This scares off Players in World PvP. W-PvP is all about Numbers. The larger the population in the fight, the more epic it feels. But when you scare off players with stuff like Extreme DP, then you are reducing the Epicness of your World PvP. Lack of Fantasy Gear---- I cant stand this!!! I play a Fantasy game for a reason. I want my in-game Avatar to have Fantasy Gear. Large Weapons and Stuff like Large Shoulder Armor, ROCKSSSSS!!!! I can understand that not all players like this, but having it a NOT AN OPTION, is just plain wrong and stupid. It should be at least a Option. I can stand all the mid-evil realalistic looking gear and Crap. I dont want to be a male Knight wearing a Chain Dress (Guild Wars). Thats crappy!!! Having Everything Small Scale Gameplay---- If I wanted only Small Scale Gameplay, I would play a X-Box 360 game, or system liink the joints. But come on!!! I do like Small Scale gameplay, but not if the MMORPG is 100% based around this. Like Guild Wars, I dont want the Would to be 100% Instanced to prevent Large Scale gameplay. I want Large Scale PvP, and Large Scale PvE. Lack of Tanking Classes--- Some people go on about how Tanking classes is lame and Boring.. But the same statement could be said for Healers, Buffers, Non-Combat professions, and Dps classes. Some People enjoy playing a Tank class in MMORPGs. Guild vs Guild as the PvP Main Standard---- This to is very Bad IMO. When the Developers base their PvP around the idea of Guild fighting other Guild in the game World, it then becomes a Populaty contest between guilds. The Guild with the Largest Population, would always Dominate and Win. New comer Guilds are scared off. This is very Bad!! Having the PvP be faction based is the better Solution, and you can see in {WoW, DAoC, ext,,,} PvP is more Balanced. I understand that Population can never be 100% Balanced, but by limiting the Grouping of Players in PvP into a low seperation number, as Factions do, PvP in the masses become more Balanced. |

Lifeless worlds- Just about every MMO has this problem, exluding ryzom. As another poster pointed out, whats with NPCs that stand in one spot day and night 365 days a year? Just make them move from spot a outside to spot b inside, problem solved. Very few games have what appears in the slightest bit to a liiving eco system. Old school SWG kind of did and ryzom again is about the only game that does.

Poor music, lack of ambience, failing to create a strong mood. One of the reasons I liked AO so much was because of things like this. It is also why don't like cartoony graphics. Another thing is armor sets that don't match *cough vanguard* Actually things like that are more of an insult to common intelligence. I mean how is it that you can be capable of creating a massive world with so much art and all the things that went into making a big complex MMO, only to then make a set of crafted armor with mismatched colors? Seriously the leather armor sets have like a purple BP, red helm, and blue boots.. It's almost like punishing the player for crafting a full set. |

-kind of a weird one but i hate games that have bad looking trees, speedtree ftw! -Like others said i hate a extremely brutal death penalty -Grind, i guess we can all agree on that one -The most important thing has to be how immersive world is, i loved how in ryzom the entire world changed from mob spawns to tree colours when seasons changed. |

I hate it when games don't have enough starting zones. I guess 4 starting zones is the absolute minimum for me. Any game offering less I wouldn't play. Then I dislike games where there are borders everywhere. Rivers or lakes you can't cross, mountains you can't climb, fences you can't climb over etcetc, so that you can basically move only along a single path. And crafting is important for me as well. If an MMORPG doesn't have that or the crafting is mostly unimportant there, and I most likely won't play the game either. Let's play Fallen Earth (from launch to present) |

When there are no easter eggs. I'm talking about an NPC that says something random every 15mins, a cow somewhere that you can open a conversation window. |

Oh, one feature that I really like that I wish they would incorporate into other MMO's is the outfit system in LOTRO. I have lots of gear that I like the look of want want to keep. In LOTRO, you can still keep the look of your old gear while saving the stats from the new gear. A witty saying proves nothing. |
