There are no perfect men in this world, only perfect intentions.

Is it just me or is the state of the game now where if you are a new player, you cannot compete in PVP. You have alot and I mean ALOT of grinding your magic schools and SPELLS themselves, archery, and whichever melee you pick to be able to compete?

Most of the EU-1 and NA-1 players right now have 100 in practically every magic school along with the most powerful AOEs at 100 as well, and that pretty much is a win win situation for them in PVP in the game's current state.

How do new players get to enjoy the game, being it is in fact a PVP game, but unable to stand a chance to fight another player who is maxxed out on everything. (Which seems to be the case of MOST of the Darkfall population now.

Can anyone give advice to a new player that wants to stand a chance in this game?

Thanks in advance!

First, join a clan so you can learn from them and improve your skills.  At first you will not be a factor when it comes to pvp, and as a new player you shouldn't be able to compete with more skilled players.  Stay in groups, and don't solo play much, because odds are you will die.  Strength in numbers at first, as you get better with your skills in game, and skills you develop by playing, you will shortly be able to compete in pvp.

Yes i was a new player about a month ago before i quit darkfall for aion which i shouldnt of done. But yes first day i joined a pritty good clan which they helped me out with skills and gave me armor. This was about 3 weeks before the skill gain was raised then after darkfalls new patch that boosted the skill gain i lvled like my magic and all my other skills so fast its not even funny.

True.

If you start now you can't compete in PvP with people which started 6 months ago.................but the same can be said for WoW, AoC and any other MMO with PvP in it.

Darkfall is not just 1vs1 PvP...........it is much more than that.
In truth I have to say that although the no rules facilitate the casual player killing , Darkfall is best suited for Guild vs Guild PvP.
It is a very political game, like EvE being in a clan make all the difference.

Enrole yourself in a good clan, do some PvP and PvE together, all your skills will grow steadily so in few months you will be able to take on the big boys.
Once you get to a certain level the difference is not that big from players who started 6 months earlier.
Once you have few skills fairly high, that will be enough to give you good chances to win fights 1vs1.

But no.......you cannot go around killing people as you please for the first couple of months.

Magic is overrated. If you have true player skill you can use melee (both on foot and mounted) aswell as archery and compete toe to toe with most mages. Im not denying magic is useful tho.

The best advice for a new player is to join a guild and they can get competative very soon (in a day or two) just dont expect to be able to go solo pvping vs the best pvpers on the server. Skill gain is so fast right now that if you level up legitimatly on mobs you can get weapon masteries within a day of buying the game. "Cycling r90/100 nukes" doesnt work if your opponent has more than two braincells as he will just close you down in melee and then beat you to the floor while you either:

  1. Walk backwards with your staff out trying to figure out what just happend
  2. Shoot yourself with the big AoE nukes
  3. Turn and run and watch him get back hits on you.

Magic has its place, as do new players. Would be nice if DF got a bit more newbie friendly but i believe the devs are working on it so stick with it.

Remember - DF is one fo the few games where a very new character can kill an overly advanced player IF they have better player skills (aim/tactics etc). Imagine a lvl 1 vs lvl 80 in WoW...

To compete with high level characters you only need 3weeks of "grind" basically 275 hp, melee mastery, and at least 2 lvl 50 nukes or 1 magic school to level 75. Easily done.

Games:

Currently playing Rift
Darkfall - Xpiher Duminous (NA) retired
AoC - Xpiher (Tyranny) retired

not even that. 250 hp is fine - 1 melee mastery and archery (which you'll get tons from pve) also you only need one school of magic... try mixing up rend (greater magic) needles (witchcraft) and a ele school to 50 and you'll be more than adequet.  You can get from a new character to than in less than a week

(bear in mind i mean by doing this legit - not by bugging mobs otherwise it will take longer as you'll have to level the damage spells also)

Just think what would you do in real life if the whole law&order collapsed. You would look for protection in a strong community.

Join a clan: you will feel safer in a group, free equipment, free services of crafters, people will share with you their knowledge about the game and your game experience will be much smoother.

The correct mindset for a PvP player has no place for fear in it. Don't think you can't compete or you won't be able to. If you want a clan, it's a much easier game and I think more fun, but you can compete on your first day.

I know first day players who have won against veterans. It certainly wasn't in a fair fight, but fair is just a carnival that comes in the fall and has no place in Darkfall.

There's so many new players on NA-1 right now it's boggling, it seems like we went from a dying game to a popular one as people realized that Aion was just another storybook game with no challenge, and far too many rules. At the very least you can target those other new players. Take their ore, take their wood, along with their scorn and you'll level up to better and better players.

Your stuff is nothing, Your life is nothing, your mount is nothing, only your skills matter, both char skills and player. Every time you get hit you level a stat, every time you hit someone you level a stat, don't huddle in hiding, that raises no stats, gains you no skill. Get out there and die, and die, until you kill.

The first step to success in DF is failure.

How about we wait until after the transfers to the American server have finished to see with how many players will the EU server be left before making any boisterous claims about numbers either way.

Just a thought................

Iiii-iiiiiit's.... me!!! *Hooray*

I so agree with this.  I am NOT a pvp player.....i am a crafter.  I enjoy crafting and pve.  BUT if i expect kindness from strangers when the game mechanics allow and even go so far as expect PK'ing then i should not be playing this game.

You have to Expect to be killed randomly.  You have to expect to grow eyes on the back of your head.  You have to Expect to lose everything you are carrying on a regular basis.

You have to create tactics to overcome these problems.  You Dont carry what you dont need.  You Dont carry a ton and a half of harvested materials.  You Dont cry when someone targets you and PK's you when you least expect it.

On the other hand, you jump up and down and holler when you see the red PK'er and are able to run away and escape him for the first time.  Then do it again.

Failure creates character and allows you to learn from your mistakes.  So go learn.

Before I refused to play DF any longer because of grind I had a group of NA friends on the EU server. They all came from WoW. Nice people who trusted each other and know what it is teamwork and supported their crafters. I was considering joining their clan after few runs, but I decided to stick with a group of EU players.

There was a patch which made resources nodes to deplete, the era of safe mining around and in the cities ended. Prices of raw resources and ready goods went up and a lot of people cried on the forums.

I stil remember a conversation with one of my American friend, he said that they are forced to mine far away from the cities and few of their gatherers got ambushed. They complained, but their learnt their lesson. They started to gather in groups so it was easier to spot an enemy, defend themselves or decide to run before it is too late. Sudenly they have much more fun.

There have been a lot of troll suggestions.

Let me add my true suggestion, I am a fanboi not troll.  Every new player should always be going the starter quests and fighting goblins for a very good long while.  If you cannot fight against a group of 3-4 goblins then u should not be PvP'ing.

Master your twitch skills and basic combat skills against goblins.  You should be able to level up archery, some lesser magic and a weapon skills pretty high.

I dont care what anyone says, A decent archery and 2h weapon skill can still do some great dmg to a skilled veteran.  You may not be able to win in 1v1 for a long long time, but you can certainly contribute to the fights, add dynamic and help out.

What I do for my clan is I take noobs on PvP hunting trips to get them customed to it.  I do all the heavy lifting but I tell them to stay on there mount and try hitting them with there mount.  I will guide the enemy in a straight line and give them a good shot at mount hitting them in the back.  This does tremendous dmg and I have had a noob kill a vet before while he was mounted.  It can be expensive because they will target the mount, but I have like 20 mounts in my bank all the time so it is not a problem.

Hope this helps.

Yes you can,  did u not read my post?  Give the first day noob a Mount and he is dishing out golden dmg.

Thats the trick though,  he needs to get a mount somehow.

gogo herb bush :)

but the point is there are MINIMAL mmos out there where a 1 day character can use EVERY weapon and armour - thus letting them able to dish out the big damage and potentially be able to kill developed characters.  That is why darkfall is unique..

How many other MMOs can you pvp on day one? Think of EVE for example^^
