The main problem I have with this game is the skill training queue..  When I played EVE I remember having to wait weeks for my skills to catch up with the amount of ISK I was accumulating.  Why did my ISK catch up?

EVE seems to have been designed for people who like to log on for 5 minutes then queue 1 weeks worth of skills, then log off for another week.  What kind of piece of shit model is this?  Making people wait real life time, just simply doing nothing in real life except waiting for your character to catch up in skills.  It's seriously one of the worst ideas ever.

I don't mind MMORPGs being huge time sinks, or whatever.. But if I want to try out a game it's kind of unfair for any new players that they have to wait x amount of years just to fly a reasonable ship.  It's like in EVE it doesn't matter how good you are, how much time you invest, etc.  No matter what, you have to put up with the RL time limits they put on skill training.  I don't understand why though, it's like if you get more ISK than you can spend, you can't do anything in EVE except get more ISK or wait for your skill queue to catch up.

In any case, I think it's a bad idea for any MMORPG to put RL time limits on skills like that.  They should be based on time input.  You can't even play EVE continuously for long periods of time because eventually you will have to wait for your skill queue to catch up.

Also, it's funny how so many sites display that EVE advertisement:

1 week, x ISK. 1 year, y ISK. Really, 1 year? I want to wait offline for a year to have that much ISK and that ship? Yeah that sounds fun.  At least in EQ I can get 60 in 2 months if i'm hardcore enough

EVE might've been playable had they gotten rid of the whole skill training system.

Also, the whole travel system sucks in EVE.  It's like, they will put shit 20 hops away.. and you just autopilot there anyway, so what's the point of that?  There is no effort required in hitting Set Destination -> Whatever and going shopping.  At least in other MMORPGs there is some effort required when you want to get from point A to point B.

The whole world in EVE looks the same.  Why couldn't they have made the world smaller and maybe more unique? Seriously, it's like they just change the names around of the graphics and its a new zone.

Control over ships kind of sucks.  First off, it's a point and click game, so it sucks right off the bat.  The other thing that sucks is when you are fighting the controls are kind of lousy and it's like after you kill something some guns are on and some are off and you can't tell because the game sucks.

Anyway, it is a unique MMORPG I guess but it pisses me off and sucks still.  Mainly the skill training queue is what makes EVE such a horrible game.

If I want to play a game where I just have to wait RL time periods I will play one of those horrible browser-based games (like that pos mybrute game)

if training your skills is the only thing you chose to do in the game, then you suck, not the game. theres plenty more to do with your time WHILE the skills are training, you know like missions, mining, pvp, etc. if you chose not to do any of that and only worried about training up your skills then that was your own fault. there are plenty of people on the game at all times doing lots of other things.

as for the rest of the stuff... well again... your own personal problems mostly. cant tell if your weapons are firing or not? funny, thousands and thousands of other people (including myself) dont have the same problem. complaining about the auto-pilot feature? well nobody is forcing you to use it, you can fly from place to place all on your own if you like, have fun, especially when you leave the high sec areas and get to places beyond the tutorial which it seems like youve been limited to. btw, ever notice how just about EVERY MMO in existence has not only autorun features, but more and more lately have been adding in autyo pathing allowing you to choose a destination/npc/mob on you rmap, set it to follow, and then watch your toon auto-pilot its way there.

I agree, you fail at eve.  Making skills go by real time, and not by grindings make it so you can ACTUALLY play the game.   It removes all leveling grind.  If you don't like playing a game, and just like leveling a character,..then eve is not for you.

Think of it this way.  The best players out there grinds = same time in training queue => you will level even slower without it.

Edit:

Carebear much?  I take it you have never been to 0.0 or low sec.  Hell looks like you have never been war dec'ed in high sec either.  How long did you give eve a try?

Eve is an advanced screensaver, operated by reading an encyclopedia upside down in broken English.

I encourage you to plop the Autopilot on for 20 jumps. Get back to me on how many times you actually make it to your destination. Not to mention that the training model supports players who actually LIKE the game they're playing. Not just how much of your life you can sit in front of the computer for.

you forgot that it's BORING. the combat is bad, the mining is bad, the back story is bad, the character creation is unnecessary, the vehicles look awful, the systems look look boring and are repetitive and the UI is one of the worst. I could go on and on but I've made my point.
I agree with everything else you've said though.
People say that the skill system isn't a level grind but it is a money grind.

funny how people will defend letting a game that plays FOR you.

You can't play EVE with the end-game focused mentality from level-based games, this is a sandbox and one with requirements based on skill training choices, there's a ladder to climb up, and it's not a bad thing because there is no end-game in the traditional level-based sense. You may see veterans running level 1 missions, driving beginner ships, mining in a 1.0 system. Skills in this game can't be compared to a traditional end-game.

A game doesn't suck for everyone because you disagree with their design choices.

Very entertaining troll to be honest.

Other than you not liking the combat in eve and your biased "Hardcore should own casuals" attitude your completely wrong about everything in Eve.

You really need to get away from the "If I play all day I should own newbs that have lives" crap. It's old and those days of hardcore EQ pvp server are over my friend. Move on.

What grind? Making isk? That's called making a living in Eve.

How does Eve play for me? Last time I checked I was the one that got all of those kills on my killmails, I was the one that scanned out a wormhole and cleared some Sleepers on my pve alt.

Keep complaining about the skill system, Honestly I would rather it be time based then me needing to grind skills all day for my Lasers to hit harder. How does that  make sense?

Read up on the lore and you will understand why Eves skill system is the way it is.

Like another poster said, EVE is just a screensaver...

I just wonder how any company gets off calling their game an MMORPG when the game consists of waiting offline for skill queues to catch up to what players can buy.

Know why they put those RL time limits in?  Because if they didn't people would grind fast and get everything, then they'd realize EVE sucks because there's probably nothing to do in that game except collect ISK while you wait for their lousy RL-time based skill system to catch up

I like MMORPGs that you actually play, not ones where you sit offline all the time.  EVE is probably one of those carebear MMORPGs for people who don't actually play games, they just sit offline and log on every week for 5 minutes.  That's not playing an MMORPG.  EVE reminds me of that mybrute thing, come back tomorrow for 3 more fights.

Sounds like someone needs to go back to WOW.  Eve won't hold your hand for you and tell you how to play.

Truth is I wouldn't even have an interest in mmos anymore had it not been for EVE.

I missed out on UO, EQ, AC, and SWG (before the storm). Spent too much time with RTS and FPS games in those days. After playing with WOW shortly after launch, and trying a few others, I felt as though I might be barking up the wrong tree.

Funny enough this site lead me to EVE, and I will be loyal until the server goes down.

There is nothing that sucks about a game that has showed how amazing this genre can potentially be.

You think sitting offline takes skill?  It's a waste of time.

Seriously, EVE is such a horrible game, theres probably a lot of people who just make toons and have their skill queue going.  Send them ISK every so often so they can upgrade skills, but they don't really do anything.  How does that even count as playing a game?

Grinding is a part of MMORPGs.  I'd rather do something in an MMORPG than wait offline, how boring that is.  Seriously, why the hell would I even play EVE, or any MMORPG if I was forced to wait offline for extended periods of time (1 week).  It's just idiotic that a company would push an MMORPG with that concept.  The only people who play that game are the ones who don't even play MMORPGs to begin with.

Grinding is fun, get used to it.  Back in EQ we would be grinding camps that aren't trivial due to spawn times & named NPCs & tanks who pull NPCs really fast.  That is much more fun than waiting offline.

You can' even level up in EVE by investing online time in your character.  You just sit offline, wtf is that?

EVEs system is time based because they are stupid.  Calling their game an MMORPG pisses me off.  Just call it a browser game or something.  Even horrible MMORPGs like WoW are better than EVE, at least WoW is an MMORPG

No, because Eve online doesn't support programmers because you can't program your own interface or mods or anything.

EVE is a trivial game.  It woulda been decent w/o the RL time based skill system.

And as a side note, the PvP server on EQ I came from is 1000x more hardcore than games like EVE.

EVE is lol though, people are always promoting it and how it is so difficult and hardcore.  It's a trivial game with an annoying skill system.  Just because it takes 50 years to have a playable ship doesn't make it a difficult game, just a lousy one.

Whats the difference in grinding levels on mobs, then grinding mobs and leveling automatically?  Sounds like grinding mods isn't fun for you without that little % bar.

Edit:

Also Eve online is a great example of a MMORPG.  You actually have to make a story for yourself.  In WOW what story do you make for yourself?

There was an article written, which asked the question to MMORPG players about what they did in game X.  Most of them responded with, "I have a lvl x character."  Ever ask an eve player what he has done.  He will have a story for you.

Dumbest criticism of EVE ive ever read, and im certainly no fan of the game.

Just to make things clear...
I speak for myself and no one else, unless i state otherwise mine is just an opinion. A fact is something that can be independently verified, you may challenge such but with proof. You have every right to disagree with me through sound argument, i believe in constructive debate, but baseless aggression will warrant an unkind response.

That's why the EVE Community is far superior to any other MMO I've played because it keeps people like the OP away from the game. QQing all the time about petty shi.
