Fire Standard Compliant or commonly known as Fire Safe Cigs. Some of you who smoke may have noticed these earlier but where I live they just recently started showing up. I immediately noticed they taste like shit but lately my thoat and sinuses have also been all F'ed up. So I was just poking around online today and come to find out they add a form of vinyl to the paper to retard the ignition. People try to pretend the chemical isn't there but you can see it and taste it. Relative to all the other shit in cigarettes- there is LOTS of it. It specifically says that inhaling vapors from this substance if burning are very toxic and that there are no products with internal applications for this chemical. Not one. The stupidest thing of all is that the hots fall out constantly with these new smokes so how fire safe are they really? So basically I either A) quit; B) roll my own again which became pointless when they jacked up the prices on that; or C) feel like shit. Pretty shitty options considering how addictive smoking is. It's also rumored that this new chemical has caused some folks severe alergic reactions where their throat closes up. If it's true it'll be documented in time. Just thought I'd share. Hope you got your things together. Hope you are quite prepared to die. Looks like we're in for nasty weather. ... There's a bad moon on the rise. |

Start smoking a pipe. It's better tasting (so many different tobacco combos), less additive-ridden, cheaper, and all kinds of classy.
Or, y'know, quit. But pipes are awesome, IMO. |

Is that... real? E-Cigs? @_@ Was sorta wondering when people would jump on the technology bandwagon. Wonder if they have caffine-dispensing things like this... *digs* "There is only one thing of which I am certain, and that's nothing is certain." |

When you say roll your own, you do know that you can make essentially perfect filter cigs using a machine (and 'tubes')? I think this is probably the best machine available. http://67.99.204.188/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=CM01&Category_Code=RYO01 Do you live in the US? Because there's still a large tax exemption in effect for bulk 'pipe cut' tobacco. And so some of the bulk cigarette tobacco retailers have taken to cutting their leaf more coarsely, and calling it 'smooth' pipe tobacco (or similar names). I make my own RYO cigs for about 80 cents per pack currently. I've been doing it for years. And they are certainly much better than store bought in quality. This is one of the largest 'smooth' pipe tobacco retailers. http://www.smoke-n-chew.com/index.php?cPath=1&osCsid=913b5f0cdadecaeb513a65d86382605d Here's a thread talking about using these tobaccos to try and approximate some retail brands. And these forums will also be good for other RYO information. http://forum.ryorevolution.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=134 And yes, the fire safe cigarettes taste like dog shit. I don't know why people put up with that abuse. I'd grow my own if I had to before I'd fork out $7 a pack for that chemical laden, rape taxing retail dung. ------------------------------ One note. I've been smoking since I was 14, and it's now starting to catch up with me. I think I proabably currently have the beginnings of chronic bronchitis (which if I don't quit will lead to emphysema). But I'm hopelessly addicted. You younger guys who haven't started, for gods sake do yourself a favor and don't do it. Smoking really is a stupid thing to do. But if you are going to smoke anyway, there's no need to submit to tyranny.

Originally posted by Pynda I have that machine and it is sweet, but getting back to the original poster. Get a better job where you can afford to buy them. LOL I smoke Winston reds. $48.00 USD per carton here in Florida. The rolled ones just dont taste the same so I am back to buying them. |

Originally posted by Pynda This is why I say switch to a pipe. It's far cheaper, and you don't constantly have to buy filters and tubes. That, and the first time you smoke a quality tobacco, like a cherry blossom blend, or a whiskey cavendish, you'll never want to go back. I had a Mavrodaphne blend once that could have converted me to a religion. Just saying. |

I burned a whole in my pants when my cherry fell into my lap while driving on the highway today. This happened two days after the cherry fell off onto my upper arm while driving. These fire safe cigarettes are going to be the death of me. |

lol @ smokers what an absolutely ridiculous habit. Just out of curiousity, does anyone know anybody who picked up smoking past the age of 25? Like for the first time, not someone who quit and came back, but specifically picked up smoking past the age of 25. |

I know one person who did this. A woman I worked with started going out with a man who smoked and picked up the habit. She was well past 30. I couldn't believe it. I started smoking when I was kind of young and gave it up some years ago. Quitting tobacco was horribly hard and painful for me. I swear that nicotine must be the most addictive substance in the world. I think giving up heroin might be easier! It's not the threat of illness that keeps me from smoking again - it's the horror of quitting!

i roll my own, its hard for me to smoke anything from the local shop (marlboro, camel, etc) since i've been spoiled by good tobacco. I suggest anyone who does smoke to just roll your own. It tastes better and its a bit cheaper, also you know whats going into your ciggerette, rather then trusting companies that i've heard are allowed to only put 60% tobacco in their cigs. |
