SB was free for two years. Not free with a cash shop but completely free with no income at all. Aside from testing a few ads that were universally ignored the game had no business model at all. Ubisoft put almost no money into it after the Throne of Oblivion expansion flopped. I can't even imagine what would prompt them to have kept the servers up. Don't use it as an example it was truly an anomoly in the gaming world.
I didnt mention SB to say that UBI soft poured money into it to develop the game, but UBI Soft definitely kept the lights on and paid for the servers. Wolfpack went under, ubisoft created a new company and put them in charge of maintaining the game... so Im not sure where the unfair comparison is? UBI soft paid the bills for years at a loss to keep the game functioning... no idea why, probably something going on behind the scenes either an attempt to sell the game, the IP, or simply giving Stray bullet time to move closer on a project. Regardless we should all be able to agree that with out UBI soft keeping the lights running that SB would have been gone a lot sooner than its final demise.
Wolfpack didn't go under. Ubisoft, who owned Wolfpack, laid everyone off. Stray Bullet was formed after they got the notice. The game was scheduled to close down at that time. Someone talked them out of it for a few more months. Know one knows how. SB should have closed down within a year, two at most, after launch. Ubisoft is just strange.

Well wolfpack was originally a company that was purchased by ubi after shadowbane was released if I remember correctly after an expansion. Thats why I said they went out of business, I assumed they werent doing so hot if their publisher purchased them. Regardless... the end result is the same. |

X-fire doesn't mean squat for a number of reasons, but mainly the fact that I single handedly added 156hrs in 1 week to the x-fire play time, and 2) xfire and darkfall don't mix well due to drops in FPS.
Race Alliance chat not full, but still getting a somewhat steady stream, of new players asking newbie question like how do I rest etc. Even on the EU server. AV has also started communicating with its player base through the their new CSR staff. AV isn't going anywhere any time soon. All the things I've mentioned should make it pretty obvious that the game is profitable.

Please give me an example outside of WoW and EvE were the company gives the number of subs. I bet you can't. You don't have to believe me, I don't care. You can go to the forums and see peopel asking about the game and newbie question and saying they have recently bought the game as well. Yes its anecdotal , but thats all you ever get with MMOs.

I'm not saying population hasn't been going down. However it seems it's on the up this month on NA-1 (who knows though). What people have been trying to tell you is that crossfire is a poor reflection of Darkfall's playerbase. There are a few reasons for this, not the least of which is that Darkfall does not run well with crossfire. What lies? Don't be so dramatic. Edit: It shall be xfire from now on, lol. I'm very impressed. Where AV has failed to come up with an idea to keep the interest of new players, the players themselves have. Is there a system in place for the guilds associated with NEW to recruit the players after the 30 days, if the players wish to join a guild? I'm fascinated by this. Kudos to the players of Darkfall. I've heard some rather bad things about the community, but this just proves that not everyone in the community is like that. |
