This is probably the best PR Mythic could have done on this. If you aren't a noob to mmo's you'll easily see through this.

-Most MMO that do the same thing do it generally when they have nothing to lose.

-T1 is sadly not representative of the game

-Prolly the best way to clean up the game forums and get the new players to share positive experience

-This is a way to get the server loads up

-At this point in time nothing good can come out of this

Considering this game is outsourced to korea, and there have been many talks about going F2P over there, it wouldn't surprised me if Mythic/EA is using the US/EU version to beta test the whole thing.

Seriously, why don't they bring up a server where gankers can go "all in" on all the newbies?

I know that alot of folks hates gankers and greifers and such but... comón, ONE server!! As it is now there's really no point in goin for the gear in T3 and T4, there's no one around to fight against anyway. In WoW for example, you could reach level cap, get a little geared and then fly down to Stranglehorn vale and begin your gank tour.

Getting ganked by a higher leveled and geared players would make you more interested in getting up higher in level yourself, just to be able to have your revenge.

Note1: I'm not a speaker for gankers. WoW is an excellent game when it comes to it because there are servers for those who likes ganking AND there are servers for those who doesn't!

Note2: WoW is just an example I'm using so there's no need for "go back to wow" answers.

This is good news for me. Tier 1 has my favourite scenarios - Gates of Ekrund, Nordenwatch and Khaine's Embrace, and while there aren't any keeps, I like the RvR lakes there as well... and well just in general tier 1 is just really fun and good compared to tier 3-4, and when I frequently feel an itch to play WAR again it's tier 1 I'm thinking of in particular. With tier 1 being free and I can just log in whenever and knock some people around without having to keep a sub going

 Problem is, how long you think T1 gona hold your interest? Keep re-rolling ain't the way, sooner or later you gona get bored and either you re-sub to go further or quit.

So if this still cant get the subs up for this game, than i believe this is the last chance that EA will give before shutting it down for good...

It doesn't matter how long it holds my interest. I can log out if I'm not interested and log back in when I am. I don't have to worry about quitting since there's no subscription involved.

Last I checked this game was "outsourced" to Bioware, which is in Austin I believe. I know they at least have an office in Austin.

Also it still says mythic, but the game is being run by Bioware now, Ray Muzyka is now not just in charge of Bioware, but both Bioware and Mythic, as the two are being merged into EA's MMO and RPG department.  and Greg Zeschuk  (Bio-wares co-founder along with Muzyka) is the group creative officer.

to say this game is going free to play cause a 10 trial is like saying, wow, eve, AoC, LoTRO, eq2, eq1, planetside, SWG, PoTBS, are all on the verge of free to play.

As a former WAR subscriber - he will know what higher tiers bring.  Same do I.  So paying for the game is meaningless when tier 1 is actually the best fun in the game.

Now... the real question is...  Will it be fun when T1 is filled with twinks and fully geared ppl ?   Will it get any more subscribers to the game ?   No it will not imo.  The new players coming in will be dead on the floor all the time since they dont know the gameplay as well.  And beeing dead all the time isn't fun.    Ask the ppl in T3 when they get zerged by the oposite faction that is outnumbering them 5 to 1 and you get the point.

Will I play WAR ?  YEs - I will pop in now and again to trial account.  WIll I pay for that trial account later on - NO - I know how the higher tiers work and have no intrest in doing those.  WIll I pay for my old sub account again ?  No - I will not since its more rewarding for me to play the T1 and stay there - since it is already the best part of the game - where there is a chance to have fun killing ppl and beeing killed pretty much EQUALLY.  Thats what Mythic needs to work on.  To create balance - NOT to reward 1 fation overflowing the servers - and beating everything based on it.  

Underdog system ?  Sure could work - but based on how poor Mythic has been in their priorites in the past months - I dont see that happening in the next year.  

MWUAHAHA open RvR t1 free for ever... I can only hope so.  For those that never played WAR there were different servers at launch, one type was called open RVR which meant that you could kill the other faction outside of the RVR areas, in the PVE questing areas.  I hope to the gods they let the trial accounts on them, epic good times ahead!

They should make the game F2P with cash shop.

After doing that, use the technology, textures, engine, etc. from WAR, to make DAOC 2.
