I played the trial over a month ago, then subbed for a month and now have gone for the 1 year deal. So far I am enjoying it, love the set, lots of content, people in the server are very helpul (it is a PvE server) and only a couple of minor glitchs that were promptly solved (an NPC refusing to give me my deserved end of quest reward and finding myself stuck after I fell down a cliff).

I'm still at level 45, still figuring out how to get the most out of the feats, learning how to make my own weapons, etc... There is still lots of areas I haven't been able to enter, lots of classes I want to try too (I'm a barbarian)...

So yep, I waited a long time before even playing the free trial. It was thanks to these forums that I found out that most of the problems were solved and that it was the right time to try the game. I learnt the hard way that any new product will have a ton of problems, be it a new car model or a new computer game... and to be honest, AOC suffered from a horrendous start, no wonder so many haters fill these forums.

The game is enjoyable as it is now. It is not for everyone, no game is, but this game is stable enough to be enjoyable if you like the set and its approach. 

I have a feeling a lot of peeps will come back around this time. The new and (as always) hyped games haven't delivered, but Age of Conan has had time to improve, update and expand. So now it's probably the best time to start up with aoc.

Age of Conan has until now been the game with a lot of potential, now that potential has for the most part been fulfilled.

I understand those that were disappointed by the suck ass launch, but have a hard time understanding those that can't let go, and take the game for what it is now, which is one of the best mmo's out atm.

With the latest updates and all that's going on at the mo'. It feels good being in the midst of the crowded cities of Hyboria :)

I'm trying it out again, disappointed with PvP balance again.

A year later, the same exact classes are OP and crappy.

The same damn classes.

Melee isn't even fun to play in this game with how bad the combo system really is(Seems cool in theory -- sucks in PvP). Every caster class is ridiculously good, when maybe 1 or 2 of the melee are actually worth playing(Bear shamans, and maybe conqs.)

Also, the community just seems dead. For most classes, there isn't even an updated FAQ(most are over a year old) with maybe 1-2 posts a day on the class forums, at max.

 I played the game for 5 months when it first came out, then returned about a 6 months later and liked the game even less. I doubt I will return again, but who knows.

That's the main fault with the combat system. Nukers have an advantage, this wouldn't be an issue if everyone in the game played a little differently (those who voice this complaint anyway). The solo mentality in pvp is what creates such a problem. If you're melee you're going to have a disadvantage. Why not group with a healer, or caster/ranger? Problem solved, for the most part. Stealth classes can somewhat get away with soloing in pvp areas, tanks not so much.

This game does still subscribe to the holy trinity in a lot of ways. Nukers are just that ranged dps, not to mention their pets. You're best off only fighting one when you have no other choice, in that circumstance where you have no choice, you have to close in fast. I've watched plenty of decent pvpers do it successfully.

I made the choice of never returning to this game. 80 bucks is enough to figure out this game isn't doing it for me. I mainly blame the annoy and LONG tortage starting area. After playing through it a few times, it get very old and boring. The game has potential after that part, but its lacking a good community. Its full of immature brats talking about each other's mothers and crap. I honestly think this game is doomed. A few loyale AoC players can't save this game unless theres a lot of them and they actually bother playing themselves.

Even with all that said, Champions online is still the biggest disappointment for me. 

What is interesting is that you still came here to talk about dead game. So it is not dead for you :D

AOC had a rocky start but after 6 month the game now is were i think it need to be . i will come back when the new godslayer come out. Right now there is Star trek online coming thats were i will go.

I will be coming back to give it another try after Christmas.

Never going back to this game. Imho biggest fail in history of mankind.

The population almost doubled during free trials and now 3 month laster is way way down so even if you go back you most likely will find that:

1) AoC is not worth your time and money.

2) AoC did not improve much and enough

3) Not many other people still play this

4) There is not much to do in game. so it is for casuals.

I liked aspects of aoc, but really the game was released underrealized and tortage (sp?) is pretty good the the game sucks after that.

ATM the only new mmo out that has any interest for me is champions online, but alas its end game is dismel... at least i enjoy the pvp.

Champion online ? dude iam playing it and pvp is a shit ! unbalanced spells and grouping...have you ever tried BASH in T4 ? its all about afew powers and afew ppl around !!! world is small as a map in other mmos... dont get me wrong iam still playin CO , however not many ppl playing it in T4 ... your opinion is fail to me .

If you are coming back. Then having the discs is probably a good thing. I have downloaded this game once (I do not recall why) and installed it from discs no less than three times. It's just too huge to want to deal with a download....at least if you're like me and have no patience once you decide to play a game.

I actaully download MMOs when I want to reinstall since they thend to have updateded versions for download. Skipping 2 days of patching is good:)
