Looking over most of the threads on the religion / politics board, I notice three over simplifications repeating themselves ad nauseum.
I'm not going to touch the third one since I am of the opinion that if it works for you and you aren't hurting anyone, more power to you. It's the first two that I want to drop my two cents on. Let me put it into a single sentence: Big Government and Big Business are equally evil and are currently working in cooperation with one another. Neither government nor business could have gotten to the monsterous size that these two institutions have reached, without help from one another. Corporate corruption feeds the need for regulation which promotes bloated pork barrel politics. Greater regulation leads to more lobbying, legal maneuvering and outright bribery which results in still more corruption. It's a Goddamn feedback loop!!! If the government is really a stop block for corporate corruption then how do explain the millions of dollars of wealthfare that we handed out to failing multinational corporations? If big business is really so strangled by governement regulation then why do white collar criminals serve less time than street muggers and still come out of prison rich? Is anyone here forgetting that the Federal Reserve is actually a private banking institution? Keep playing the versus game folks. It allows the bankers and the lawyers to take off with all your rights and money. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2if5GYXOGyo |

I'm not pro-big government, I'm anti massive low regulated corporations.
Being against one does not mean supporting the other. I'd rather the government shrink in a lot of areas (drug war, military), but when it comes to keeping the fortune 500s from taking advantage of consumers, I'm all for it.
I doubt that conservatives here are pro-big business. I'm sure most of them would rather do business with smaller local businesses. |
