The most important thing is that devs listen to their player base and every update and move they make is very logical and makes sense. You get the feeling that they are gamers themselves and know exactly wtf they are doing, which I cant say about every other game company, especially the big ones. So I already have a big confidence in this small indy company and this game will only go up, these guys atm are schooling every single game developer as to how you run a MMO properly. I see many similarities between Icarus and CCP (EVE developers) and that's a good thing.
I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today. |

Aside from that, the graphics look pretty good, particularly for a MMO from an independent company.

You can increase and decrease the view distance of those items, and in S2 and even high S1 you'll start to notice some changes in scenery, but its pretty spot on with other games of the post apoc genre. |

I played with all settings maxed. Not sure what kind of video card you are using but I have 9800 GT+ (2 actually, though FE isn't using SLI to my knowledge) and the shrubs "materialize" out way farther than 15 feet. It's either the limitations of your card or something in your settings, but those coming into view at only 15 feet is not the standard for everyone. "Many nights, my friend... I figured it was an exaggeration... 15 ft is way too close, I have my settings at 75% distance and I can see shrubbery from well beyond 15 ft even when riding. Only under poor lag do things strangely materialize and my cards pretty old. |

I'll concede that I didn't have a virtual tape measure. Can you craft those ingame? I did have my settings maxed, visuals as far as they could go, and they were still popping up abruptly. I'm talking about the point at which the terrain stops being far field blur, to becoming an actual, detailed object. I'm not sure lag is an issue with that sort of thing, as they are often be coded to pop up randomly rather than having to be plotted by a dev. And these certainly look randomly placed, while looking nearly identical, if not entirely. AMD Phenom 9850 4x 2.5 4 gigs 1066, limited to 3.3 on 32bit XP(hurry up, Windows 7 box!!!) Sapphire Radeon 3870 16 mbps broadband, low ping on most games I can run pretty much any game out with settings maxxed and get over 30fps@1680x1050. Usually closer to 60-70, save for some heavy hitters like AoC; I usually end up underclocking to keep heat down. Seems like I recall getting 30-40 fps in FE. Like I said, gfx were pretty good on this game aside from the animations and the shrubbery(call Roger). But those 2 things are smack dab in your face, and only obvious when you play, not in screenshots. |

Even at max settings you can notice the schrubs poping into existance. I wish the slider when higher than 100%. My system could handle it no problem.

MMOs require more reasoning and imagination than most stereotypically ''adult'' activities. |

I think the "pop into view" issue with the shrubs would be reduced significantly if they just faded in and out of view instead of "popping" into view. |

Ok, seriously, I think there is a shrubbery (ok, I'm going to watch holy grail tonight...) slider and if you slide it to 0 it shuts them off. I'd have to log in to see and don't have the time just now. Half to go scavenge food in real life. German food deli here I come! Daddy wants some sauerkraut! "Many nights, my friend... I actually have a grief with the game now :( As we know, ingame FSAA does not work very well (or, in cases like mine, at all). So I use external FSAA with my HD4890, no issue there. Until now.... I just entered S2, and the shrub/grass is thick and common here. However, it looks like my card tries to force FSAA on every single leaf of grass, and thanks to that, my FPS drops from the usual 70-80 down to 15-20, and everything becomes stuttery. Now, I really don't like this. I tried reducing ranges, and fiddled with every settings, but none of them causes more then a few FPS increase, and even on the lowest (!!) settings I have stutter, if external FSAA is forced. Well I guess, this is my turn in the tech support forums :(( DB Denial makes one look a lot dumber than he/she actually is. |

Sadly, the slider's minimum is 25%, at that level the grass jumps out a few meters ahead of you. I wish it was really zero, as 25% is not even ugly as hell (irrealistic), but doesn't even solve my FSAA FPS drop issue :( DB Denial makes one look a lot dumber than he/she actually is. |
