Hey guys, let me premace this by including some of my gaming background. I've played a good many MMOs, starting when I was 11 years old with EverQuest. I am now 20 and have played (in order) EQ1, WoW, AoC, Warhammer, EQ2, EVE, LotRO, Fallen Earth, and Guild Wars (didn't get past the trial lol). I've gotten to the end-game in all the games except for LotrO and AoC.
EQ1 - Actually raided when I was about 13 in PoP expansion.. I didn't know what the hell was going on lol.. Like 70 person raids...
WoW - Participated in all end game raids back in vanilla and TBC, conquered it all... Got my rank 11 when PvP was the real deal.. Got WotLK and did the Tier 7 raids. they were a joke and I decided I had played that game too much and for too long, so a few friends were going to play AoC.
AoC - Got through the bugginess and leveled up to about 60 or so, and that's when the mass exodus was going on and no-one was playing anymore.
Warhammer - Friends from work got me into this and I was hooked, played up until about 6 months ago and got renown rank 50, and we were seiging the Inevitable City every night and it got uber boring..
EQ2 - Decided to go back to the roots and try this. This was probably the best game I had played since WoW, in terms of being able to enjoy the content and not feeling like I was just trying to achieve something and be done with it. It however got old once I hit max level and my A.D.D. kicked in lol.
Eve - My stepdad had been playing this for a few months and told me all about it, little did I know it really wasn't very "action packed" and I would have to wait for "skills" to train to be effective in any sort of his corporation's activities..
LotrO - Played the trial and decided to buy it since it was only $10.00. Wasn't very fond of this and I only got to level 25 or so before I gave it up.
GW - Graphically wasn't very appealing to me. I didn't enjoy the game starting with the newbie area, so I uninstalled almost immediately.
Fallen Earth - I played this until level 20, then it just got boring and repetitive. The crafting was a little too complex, and I think that they actually gave a little bit TOO much freedom with what to do with my character. I didn't like how non-linear it was.
What I look for is an MMO that will give me a goal to shoot for, without giving it up to easily, and giving me something to fill all my excess time. I don't have the time to play like I did when I could attend raids with 100% attendance. PvP is fun, in Warhammer I loved being able to jump on and go to where the action was, and get gear and loot just for killing other players, conquering their keeps and controlling zones from the enemy. I like PvE as well, but like I said if the majority of it is about getting your guild on a schedule and having set times when you have to raid I'm not interested.
Costs are not an issue, and neither is computer hardware etc. I have a decent machine and am going to be building a new one soon.
My question to you, MMORPG community is: What game will hold my interests, and will I be able to play for an extended period of time? |

Well, you haven't tried Aion yet. I haven't tried it myself and not going to try as it doesn't look/sound good for me. But what I've heard the pve is fine, pretty much grinding tho and it's based pretty much on PvP. But I don't know very much about it so just telling to you to read more about it. Dungeons & Dragons Online, f2p but you get more content if you pay the 15$/month, just released f2p so very much ppl, nice combat etc.. have played only a little until I found The Chronicles of Spellborn, it's much better imo but it has less PvP so I think you should go try DDO. |

It is me again. Just finished reading and this is what I think. AoC is tons better and worth it now, but the community is lacking since not many play it really anymore but it really is fun. WAR is a lot worse and I -loved- it when it came out; i did the beta and played for the first few but it will soon drown unless they fix it somehow, this coming from a person who really enjoyed it at first. Lotro might not seem for you since you stopped at 25; I am not sure how it changes after that but the issue could be the lack of pvp maybe? Eve takes discipline to play, you need patience and you must also enjoy space games (for lack of the better description) but it does have a very steady and mature community that is growing; I think the space aspect and slow nature of the game is what turns people off. Aion will feel like WoW to you, I think, and like LOTRO you will get bored but unlike LOTRO at 25 you can do the abyss (pvp). My conclusion, though, is you want something that keeps your interest but is not too easy, like you did state. Of all the games you listed you should focus on the one that can keep you entertained outside of pve/pvp as in crafting/community/helping others. Like for me I really enjoy crafting. Some MMOs make it hard but that makes it more worth while to me. Fallen Earth would be an example, like you said, if it so complicated that could be a good thing and make it a better goal for you in a game. I think you should X out the pve/pvp of MMOs and see what else they offer, that could help you out a ton. |

I guess that is true, I really enjoyed EverQuest because of the Community. it didn't bother me sitting around looking for groups etc, seeing everyone running around the Plane of Knowledge, sitting by rocks and shit. Maybe I long for an MMO like EQ1 used to be. |

EE Gads, sittin in PoK hawking my SoW's LOL i know how you feel to a point. I loved EQ2. it had the PvP i loved and the Crafting I loved. Hated the Fact SOE was it's company and the fact that you had to do Every Freaking Bloody Quest to get your AA maxxed out if you were on a pvp server(trust me if ya didn't you were sub par when it was time for PvP) Plus since it's from SOE, you know they're gonna Burn thier player base one way or another. . . oh yea. . . they did. first off in thier newest Game update, they changed all the racial trait abalities(so imagine your guilds main tank now has racial perks that a mage would kill for, LOL) of course my info is dated so mayby SoE came to it's sences on that and gave em all a free race change, but knowing SoE they prolly didn't.
my suggestions? Perfect world, http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/282/Perfect-World-International.html and Ryzom, http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/36/Ryzom.html
PW reminded me of WoW, and Ryzom was nice and casual. though it's been a While since i played em.
Goodluck m8, and if you find that MMO Gem out there let us know :)

I'll definitely try those out, and yeah I was on a PvP server, doing every single quest available to keep AA 1.5 times your level was crazy hard, but satisfying as hell! And yeah I would sit in PoK and sell my SOE on my lowbie druid to fund my main SK at a whopping 12 years of age haha. |

Bleh.
Thinking of going back to EQ2. I've only quit that game out of boredom, which all MMO's seem to be doing to me lately. I think I need a game where I can just sit in my expensive house and ponder lol... |

It sounds like everything out right now is just not to your tastes. I was the same way until FE came along, and was in the middle of NWN2 when I started FE.
OH and you might want to try DDO Unlimited... its actually pretty decent for a f2p. |

Yeah, in every MMO I've played over the last 7-8 months I've just been grinding to the level cap and such, not necessarily too fast, but haven't been able to enjoy much end-game. My life is pretty hectic and I am in my last year of college so at nights when I want to raid or do the sweet pvp action stuffs I'm studying or working on projects. And when I am not doing that my girlfriend expects me to spend time with her lol. :) I'm kinda coming to terms with the fact I won't really feel too fulfilled with any MMO at the moment, so I'm just gonna hop around month to month and play whatever. When my current WhO sub runs out I'm gonna give EQ2 another month again. |
