If you like typical linear mmorpgs, Final Fantasy, flashy animation, a daoc leveling pace, most of the combat being automated, heavily geared based, PvE and PvP mixed together, with the idea of fighting in the air, you'll probably like this game. There are bots, there are bugs, there are tons of exploits in pvp, there are class issues and imbalances, that have been around since the release of the game in S.Korea a year ago. However they are being worked on. While leveling you can choose to either read the quest text and do things yourself, or you can choose to have the game hold your hand and walk you through it by locating your quest objectives for you, no mods required. Future patches are working on increasing the quest experience to alleviate the slower leveling and boredom people are reporting.

Then again some of the "Aion has the best (insert claim here)" comments are just as odd.
Aion is a "good" MMO.... I hit cancel because it wasn't for "me".
There are things I would have done a bit different... that doesn't make it a bad game.
The most non biased thing I can say about Aion... You may like it... you may not.
Games are a subjective experience and what someone claims won't change how it is for you. It IS actually a good MMO.... its just not what *I* was looking for.
Personally I'm back in EQ2 and I'm not exactly fond of SOE yet I still play EQ2... /shrugs I'd go back to DAoC instead but I don't want to play on Ywain...
*edited* for clarity and a few obvious spelling errors.
I have to agree with this a bit, I don't really see a lot of unbiased reviews anwhere. OP, to answer your question: Question 1: Is it worth the 50 bucks plus monthly subscription fee? yes, to me it is as Aion has what I am looking for from a game of this type. It does have quests so one doesn't have to just go to a field and grind, crafting that even I would consider doing as I hate crafting, and an art design that to me is inspiring. Then again, I enjoy the whole Lineage 2 type of over the top asian art design. If you do not then the game might not be for you. Is the game perfect? No,, but I have yet to see a game that was. I have seen games that have been done extremely well, but that to me doesn't mean it's a game that I want to play. WoW is probably the best done game I've seen but I have no desire to play it as it's just too goofy for my tastes. so whether or not a game is for you really depends on your tastes and what you are looking for. Question 2: If the response to question (1) is yes, do you plan on playing Aion more than 6 months? Yes, This will be one of the last Online games I will play. Secret world is another and I plan to visit LOTRO from time to time. Otherwise I find that onlne games do not give me the type of gameplay I am looking for that I can find from a single player rpg. As an added note, I also have a Vanguard account as I really enjoy exploring and finding new things. Aion doesn't really give you that. Question 3: Are you playijng because there's nothing else right now that "grabs" you "immerses (spelling) you" and are simply occupying your time with a game for something to do? What I'm going to say might be insulting to some but "no" I don't believe in wasting your life, your time and your money and just "playing something" to pass the time. My life is way too interesting to waste my time just to occupy it. There is far too much out there that can enrich a person's life than to waste one's time just occupying it for the sake of not having the gumption to go out and do something that one finds worthwhile. I play Aion because I enjoy it. If the time comes where I don't enjoy it I will move on. |

Metacritic has 20 reviews for Aion from various game site and publications. They are all professional reviews, and may or may not be biased. would give plenty of sources to read through though. Here is the link to the Aion page. |

Ok, I'll toss in my .02 here; #1. For me, no, since I do not enjoy the art style, the animations, the sounds, the lore...none of it. It just never grabbed me. The graphics are quite nice, it's just they are done in a way that I -personally- find unappealing. If someone were heavily into the whole Anime thing, then I could see the draw. As is, I couldn't justify the subscription to a game that I didn't like looking at, or reading any of the quests in. That, and the community seems to be just horrible. Logging in on launch day and seeing 'Immapwnu', 'Goatraper' and 'Sephirothzzzz' spamming up the chat channels with crap about other games and rofllolling their way through the game is just another nail in the coffin. On a whole, it all seemed horribly immature...like a Naruto convention where all the kids had been given crystal meth and free Mountain Dew. #2. Since I answered no, then no. However, even if I *had* answered yes, this seems to be one of those types of games that a person would tire of quickly. #3. If anything, after believing the hype and trying Aion, it drove me back to what I was trying to take a break from; WoW and EVE. If anything, Aion made me appreciate everything that those two games do right.
A poll on this very site rated WOW as having the worst community in any MMO by a landslide margin. I guess you fit perfectly in that type of company. GW2 the future of MMO gaming |

1. No, it clearly should have been F2P. There is almost no Customer service or actual content in the game. 2. Again No, this game has a short lifespan especially with HUGE titles on the way with SWTOR or even FFXIV. 3. I picked it up as a time occupier but honestly I'd rather go get a part time job, IMO that says a lot about this game. Most, at least those that I know, picked it up as a stop-gap solution to get to the bigger titles that come out in 2010.
The game doesn't bring enough to the table. It IS polished and has good graphics but almost everything else in the game comes from 1st gen mmos with zero innovation. The PvP comes down to gank or zerg so if you're like me and enjoy small battles your out of luck 99% of the time. 30+ turns into grinding for hours on mobs, the group mechanics are awful and the 5+ level god mode is stupid in a PvP game. Honestly just got download Perfect world or RFOnline, little less polish and a bit clunkier but same basic experience. |
