I'm reading quite a few pro/con reviews of Aion lately.  Does anyone have any real advice/information to offer.

Question 1:  Is it worth the 50 bucks plus monthly subscription fee?

Question 2:  If the response to question (1) is yes, do you plan on playing Aion more than 6 months?

Question 3:  Are you playijng because there's nothing else right now that "grabs" you "immerses (spelling) you" and are simply occupying your time with a game for something to do?

Really, tell me your honest answers, thanks!

50 bucks to some people is getting a hand job from a tranny wearing sandpaper gloves in a piss stained truck.

The bitch didn't even have lipstick on.

This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.

1. No
2. No
3. Yes

Negatives: Here is why: Levels 30-40 really start to lose fun the quests die down and get repetitive and the Grind monster starts to show its ugly head.  Levels 40-50 are pure insanity and take many many many hours of effort.  PvP is a gank fest although that is nothing new to PvP based games.  There are tons of gold spammers and botters.  But the real kicker is NCSofts customer service has to be the worst I have ever seen in a mainstream MMORPG.

The Abyss is boring and a major pain in the ass in my opinion. It supposed to be a PvPvE area but there are just too many damn NPC monsters so most small skirmishes happen with adds in toe and it adds a ton of frustration because it doesn’t leave a lot of room up for maneuvering.  The Fortress sieges are the major way to get gear in Aion because of the badge system.  Here is the major problem with this system...there is a stupid formula which is based on damage done like in Warhammer that hands out the badges...Healers and tanks will struggle greatly.  On top of this the siege performance is incredibly bad tons of crashes/lag outs occur during sieges.  The combat annimations are annoying to me and this is more of a personal gripe:  Melee classes when using skills have to like stop motion to use the skill.  I.e. the animation takes over and you very temporarily lose control of your character.  I hate this!  The combat sound effects make my ears bleed.  They are nothing but the same clicks clangs beeps and wooshes with undecipherable yelling for each.  It will quickly get on your nerves.  One thing that Aion promised is flying combat and while yes fights often go to the air its usually a chase scene in which the person always gets away since melee cant stay in range and range chars have to stop to cast.  Flying is only unlimited within the Abyss and even that isnt an all the time thing since you only have around 1-2 min of flight time.

Positives: Smooth launch and polished game.  It really has almost no bugs. Awesome customer charecterization and cool looking end game armor.

Anyway this is my unbiased opinionated response.

Well if you haven't been around the NCsoft forums the real problems are hidden within a maze of bots and spammers. My  guild that started Aion on release ( a group of 20+ friends from various mmo's ) now has only three members remaining, the population at the moment has been crippled as many subscribers have voided the next month of play due to the growing bot population, along with other problems.

Let me start with some of the main reasons why this game is falling hard. BOTS.  A general rule when starting a new mmorpg is that you want everyone on an equal playing field. What happens when you don't enforce this? You make people leave, if there is no punishment for bots/automated programs people think NCsoft just doesn't care and thus many avoid said company. Not to mention a complete feeling of wasted time, I like seeing "asdfsa" all the way up and down the zones, grinding the same locations they've been doing since launch.

There are so many different pros and cons to this game but for me this just isn't something I'd return too. I've tried so hard to keep friends playing this game, I've even paid for a month on two other friends accounts yet they stopped logging on :( Most of my guild got to mid 30's-40's before putting the game off so I'd say we've played through a majority of the game before quitting.

My one word of advice is AVOID. This game is a standard Korean mmo grindfest anyway you look at it you do plenty of kill X return to Y quests, hasn't anyone thought of automatic rewards yet? I'm sure they'll be fixing problems here and there but NC's lack of participation with the community has just driven people out of the game.

Here's some of my gripes with the game that seem to be similar to the complaints I hear over vent everyday :P

Loot system, rolling system, no class restricted loot, some skills being stationary (can't move when using), flying bugs, large scale PvP battles buggy, no group xp bonus, and too much grind in between group quests. These are some, I know they'll be working on them when the time comes but as for now it's killing it for us. There are also endgame issues but those will always be fixed later on.

Also banning someone who's dumping over $100+  a month isn't wise. Maybe NCsoft doesn't like money?

Question 1: Is it worth the 50 bucks plus monthly subscription fee?

Plain and simple. NO, this game is not worth the monthly fee, this would be a great micro-payment game but that's about it. The looting system, dungeons, and quests all need to be worked on. Lack of support for in game, community, and weak GMs.

Suggestion? Take that 50 bucks, burn it then lose yourself in a forest for a month. Better time spent I assure you.

Question 3: Are you playijng because there's nothing else right now that "grabs" you "immerses (spelling) you" and are simply occupying your time with a game for something to do?

Yep, me and my friends all bought this to kill time and see something new. We gave this a shot and it ended up falling on its face.

This game needs time to get better. In a couple months it may improve,  at the rate the economy is with these farmers I don't see what they could do. 1million for $2.50? Damn.

If you like the genre that Aion represents then you get a polished product.

Question 2:  If the response to question (1) is yes, do you plan on playing Aion more than 6 months?

I do not know what happens in six months. I am having fun now.

Question 3:  Are you playijng because there's nothing else right now that "grabs" you "immerses (spelling) you" and are simply occupying your time with a game for something to do?

I am playing because this is the game that grabbed me and I enjoy playing in a game where everyone is new to it. It is just a different feeling altoghether.

You haters are like the conservatives - always find a problem with anything. if they don't ban then they are in bed with gold sellers - when they do ban they are stupid

Frankly  if I had a company that made MMO I would never respond to anyone in formus etc. most of them like the poster above are just yapping with no basis whatsoever

your gonna get the same reviews as the 0ther 200 review threads, but since you want a personalized review....

1-10 isn't bad, its pretty decent .. you get hooked in here ... typical starter zone quests n shit.. you get threw it fairly quick

after that, its a rinse repeat of the same quests and mobs, worded differently, named differently and w/ slightly different skins

you will see maybe 6-8 new mobs + the old mobs renamed and re-skinned after lvl 20

you'll get to 25, and go "yay i can goto the abyss" , but you can't yet... you gotta do some boring ass quest to get there

once your finally there and all excited, you'll find a broken up land where you fly around and have tons of fun exlporing for a night or two

then you'll do a keep take with your guild or something... and you'll crash 8 times during it, and everyone will be talking about how they got 2 or 3 gold awards (yay?) while you crashed for the 9th time (lets not forget when you crash you get sent to some random login spot that gets camped)

so you get nothing, you shrug it off and do it again

all the while, in between you will gank someone pveing, get ganked pveing and then slit your wrists from killing the same mobs 2000+ times to level

in a nutshell, this is a asian f2p game, thats p2p so you don't have to deal with microtransactions

and in turn , its very pollished and visually stunning (though it's meh to me)

Aion was reviewed as the best MMO ever released on this very site ... its polished, complex, rewarding and a game made for the MMO purist.

The servers are full of people, which makes for a very fun Open World PvP environment. Aion is the best PvP game on the market, so if you like PvP with meaning and skill play Aion.

1. depends on what kind of gamer you are and what you can put up with

2. 6 months...depends on how long it takes me to reach max (probly will be 8 or 9 months) and if there is decent endgame content by then as i am not all that into PvP)

3. i am playing because a friend talked me into it.  I am having a lot of fun (more than i have had recently) but nothing too spectacular (yet)

basically i love grinding (hate quests soooo much) so Aion caters to me more in that department than other MMO's.  Flying is a unique touch that i find fun and the classes are very interesting and fun to play (took me ages to pick a main).  Downsides are the lame linear starting areas:

you roll up a character, level to 10 (where you pick your main class) and level to about 20 and you will have completed the starter area (if you follow the quests).  You follow this path for EVERY alt you make and i can tell you it is shit boring the 2nd time through.  If you make the effort i think there are some other quests in the other zones around this path but i have not confirmed it yet.

Only other downside is performance.  This game basically shoved on an extra 300 ping for no reason (that i can see).  As an Aussie (usual ping is 200-250) trying to play with a ping of 600+ is very hard.  I had to go to extra lengths to reduce it down to about 400.  I hear most yanks are getting about a 200-300 ping so at least its not a huge dissadvantage.

MMO wish list:

-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

Have you actually played dragon age?

So why do you advise people to play something you have not played yourself ?

Aion is a game for PvP... PvE is just more of the same old stuff, but PvP is what makes this game different, it has the PvP Warhammer should have had.

Its not a bad game. But its not the all mighty all in one package we where hoping for either.

Currently i am a super hero in DCUO.
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package)
Worst MMO experience : FF XIV
Waiting for : GW2

Good luck tryign to find a non biased review of Aion. The mmo genre is hurting bad and they need to overhype Aion to look good until we get a good mmo.

That's kind of an odd statement...

Then again some of the "Aion has the best (insert claim here)" comments are just as odd.

Aion is a "good" MMO.... I hit cancel because it wasn't for "me".

There are things I would have done a bit different... that doesn't make it a bad game.

The most non biased thing I can say about Aion...    You may like it... you may not.

Games are a subjective experience and what someone claims won't change how it is for you.  It IS actually a good MMO.... its just not what *I* was looking for.

Personally I'm back in EQ2 and I'm not exactly fond of SOE yet I still play EQ2... /shrugs  I'd go back to DAoC instead but I don't want to play on Ywain...

*edited* for clarity and a few obvious spelling errors.

I play it at the moment. Its OK... thats the best word i can use to describe it. It's not better or worse then WoW pretty much on par. All i can say is if you are looking for something different this is not the game for you. Pretty much the standard WoW structure that most MMOs are built around.

I'd personally wait for the next generation of MMOs to make your choice or play it till something better comes along.

Question 1: Is it worth the 50 bucks plus monthly subscription fee?

Answer 1: no its not worth $50.  its an ok game but if you took the flying factor out of it (in rare occasions u can fly) its just another boring crap game ive played other f2p online games better then this game

Question 2: If the response to question (1) is yes, do you plan on playing Aion more than 6 months?

Answer 2: i said no but il answer this anyway id say no because of to many reasons and after level 50 you got nothing to do its like the game ends at lvl 50

Question 3: Are you playijng because there's nothing else right now that "grabs" you "immerses (spelling) you" and are simply occupying your time with a game for something to do?

Answer 3: i played it because off hype and i like to test new games out and this game was kinda crap id give it 4/10.

Ok, I'll toss in my .02 here;

#1.  For me, no, since I do not enjoy the art style, the animations, the sounds, the lore...none of it.  It just never grabbed me.  The graphics are quite nice, it's just they are done in a way that I -personally- find unappealing.  If someone were heavily into the whole Anime thing, then I could see the draw.  As is, I couldn't justify the subscription to a game that I didn't like looking at, or reading any of the quests in.  That, and the community seems to be just horrible.  Logging in on launch day and seeing 'Immapwnu', 'Goatraper' and 'Sephirothzzzz' spamming up the chat channels with crap about other games and rofllolling their way through the game is just another nail in the coffin.  On a whole, it all seemed horribly immature...like a Naruto convention where all the kids had been given crystal meth and free Mountain Dew.

#2.  Since I answered no, then no.  However, even if I *had* answered yes, this seems to be one of those types of games that a person would tire of quickly.

#3.  If anything, after believing the hype and trying Aion, it drove me back to what I was trying to take a break from; WoW and EVE.  If anything, Aion made me appreciate everything that those two games do right.
