I played CB, OB, and head start.

I did not notice many problems at all till OB , and that was just with lag but that was fixed fairly quick.

Over all it was a good polished release I would say but the problem lies in what you are comparing the release to AOC,WAR,darkfall, champions, these where just epic fail releases and the games are just dead, dieing, or starting to fade fast.

Their is something missing from Aion tho you will see other threads and topic's and people post about it.

Best way I can describe it is you go out to dinner and try a new dish you take that first bite and something is just not right it is not bad and it is not good and you can not realy put your finger on what is missing or wrong with it but you do not care for it over all personaly this is the feeling alot of people had with Aion its not that they loved or hated it but they felt something was just not hitting the spot this is how I felt playing and I tried the game 3 diffrent times and all 3 times got my money back.

The problem from me and others was once something is just not sitting or clicking right for you in a game the little things that you would most likely ignore that annoy you start to look bigger then they realy are and go from annoing you to frustrating you to just getting you mad and full of hate over till you run into the straw that broke the camels back syndrome and all these little things now get stacked up into a I hate such and such /rage /rant.

Even if the items you are bringing up are valid and have merit the reason you are really brining them up is for the first reason something just does not feel right and you need to some how put a finger on it, the irony of it all is you realy do not have to have a reason for this some things are just not for you if you do not feel that this is for you hey just move on its not like the next big thing or flavor of the week that everyone is hypeing or has a opinion on is not comming out in X amount of time for you to try just wait and see if that feels more like what you want then this.

I will say this for all I eventualy disliked about Aion I am sorry to hear of the overwhelming number of gold spamers and botters the Aion comunity has to deal with it detracts from a persons abitlity to paly, enjoy, or find out if they like or dislike a game because they have to deal with a out side of real game play or experiance source from the jump hope thet fix it quick and have it removed perminatly.

Ya but the failed game you mention WAR and AOC is probably the 4rd and 5th largest western P2P games right now.

So really what other good MMORPG is there to play?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Even if it's wrong!

The Dinner analogy is perfect.

My feeling for my dinner out was that it had a special flavor about it.  Nothing I can point to to say ..THIS is IT. But it just plain tastes good.

Aion is a well designed assemblence of different aspects of the MMO genre. As long as the grind keeps the instant gratification junkies away it will play well in end game also. We will see in the future the direction NC takes this game, either to build the subs or build towards the group of gamer it attracts.

Talking about feeling ...

When I was playing LOTRO, the world design felt amazing, yet none of the classes felt right. Like something was missing, that I couldn't put my finger on.

On Aion on the other hand it's hard to pick a class, they are all so much fun to play. Yet the world is not as wow inspiring as LOTRO.

In the end, Aion's world has the potential to grow bigger. On the other had, LOTRO ever expanding world is limited by those uninspiring classes.

There's a formula for everything, even famous quotes.

I had a hard time reading OP's post with all the run-on sentences.

He's right, though. These games anymore are just "missing something" even through they have everything else from the last iteration of the generic "MMORPGrind_Template.vcproj"

Isn't that funny? They're the same as the last thing, and we think there's something missing.

Using your food analogy i would describe Aion as eating a lobster, while a game like wow is eating Mcdonalds. Aion has risk, is content rich full of great lore, has meaningful strategic Open World PvP, your not hand free epics in this game!. To put it simply im having a blast in Aion and many others are like me since my server is always full.

WoW is McDonald's, but Aion is Red Lobster.  The restaurant chain, not the lobster.

I actually felt the same way when I tried LOTRO when it first came out and got my hunter to level 45. Then I left and tried warhammer, vanguard, AOC, and Aion. After those experiences, I decided to go back to LOTRO and now I have a new appreciation for its more open world and story/lore. I also tried the new Rune Keeper classed and loved it. Wish that was out when the game first game out and I would have never left. I think there are other parts of the game that have improved since then and I think the only missing piece is the character animations which hopefully they will address. Aion was very polished to me and I loved the animations, but the world was just nothing compared to LOTRO. Then again, one game really is more PVE focused and for those that need the PVP much more I would definitely recommend Aion as long as you are not into exploring big open worlds.

Content rich?  Full of great lore?  And you're talking about Aion..?

Aion is more like luke-warm day old sushi left out at the grocery store, and when you eat it, it gives you a case of the runs for a day or so.  But it sure as hell looked good sitting in the store.

WoW has more lore than Aion, Aions story and lore is so lame.  Characters are bland too.  What you mean strategic? everyone just fights when they see the other faction just like in WoW. The fortress fights are just a slideshow.  The dungeon designs doesnt look like there was any thought put into it.  Annoying combat animations make combat very unresponsive.  Everyone goes through the exact same quests cuz theres not many content and majority of the quests are just repeatables to make you grind, at least in WoW i can go to a different area and find different quests for the same lvls, same with lotro.  Aion is even more theme park than WoW and lotro imo.

I largely agree; but the Classes in LOTRO are governed by the IP so theres not alot you can do about it; Aion (and everybody else!),copies these but raises them to the next level which is why it's so good. I'm going to see if I can make my own Class in Champions-everybody over there is complaining about how hard it is to do right.

Your feelings mirror my own. LotRO's game world is utterly amazing, and the story telling is done is a manner that keeps it interesting (to a degree). However, I found myself yawning at combat. I played Asheron's Call 2 from birth to damn near death because of how fast paced the combat felt. While I understand that the classes in LotRO coulnd't be as "flashy" as they are in other games, that's no excuse for many of the attacks to be so bland.

Not to mention the character models in LotRO are so unappealing. Aion has a robust character creation system where you can make your character look almost however you want.

Two major turn offs for me in Aion was the, "hai!" yells from the male characters. If I made my character look like a european, I really don't want an asian voice for him. It's as annoying as the LotRO yells.

The other was the game world. Aion is very very pretty, but I never really felt immersed in to the world. I can't really put my finger on what it is about the Aion world that's unappealing to me.

I really want a quality game that can deliver on a significant portion of the goods, I'm tired of all of the "AAA" mmorpgs that are available in the west.
