This was just released this morning. It's a big first step to legalizing Marijuana at the national level. At the very least they are finally admitting it's a huge waste of their time and tax payers dollars.

Finally, something that makes sense. Go catch robbers and rapists and leave the pot heads alone. |

Y"know, if the government is really that worried about finding mexican drug cartels with marijuana money (which is a fat lie, I've known at least 5 people who grow the stuff, probably more), you'd think the best thing to do would be to legalize the stuff let us actually compete with them. Think of the american jobs that it would create!
But no, it's actually all tobacco lobbyists who don't want competition. |

Originally posted by Draq Exactly... If they just legalized it they could tax and regulate it just like alcohol and tobacco. It would generate millions(possibly billions) of new tax and permit dollars to help pay off the national debt, create thousands of new jobs and free up law enforcement to go after the real problem drugs like Cocaine and Heroin (You know, the drugs that actually are addictive and kill people). They should however put a high import tax on anything coming in from other countries (Don't make it illegal to import... just make it cost more) to make American grown stuff cheaper and more appealing to the end consumer. They should however make it illegal to import it from any country that has laws against it being grown there.
This would give the world economy a serious boost, take the billions of dollars away from the criminals and give it to honest hard working people and it just makes sense. The benefits from legalization far out weight any possible downside. There are billions of dollars of untapped revenue that is going to some of the worst criminals on the planet right now that could be put to better use. Take that money away from these criminals and put it to work at repairing the economy. Legalization just makes good sense!
