My rule of thumb for microsoft operatingsystems is to wait for the first service pack.

I'll get it when I get a copy for free at work. At least by then I'll know our corporation supports it (somewhat) and I can get other employee discounted wares for it. |

Ill get it as soon as I have cash to Burn on a New Motherboard/Prossesor and win 7. Even then it will be installed on my backup comp first so I see if I like it. I already know I will be getting it. My old HD is starting to give me fits so time to upgrade. That and I can get the OS for much of nothing. Unlike the past OSes definitely are cheap. As cheap as any game. |

Definitely buy. As of this moment I'm running the Windows 7 RC on two PCs and one laptop, and the release build of Windows 7 on my main system. I've been using Windows 7 all year actually ever since the beta, and the only conflicts I've had was waiting for Nvidia and Creative to release Windows 7 drivers. Both long since have now. In short, Windows 7 has been so open and available in its RC form already that if there was something catastrophic to hear about it, you would've. Search for reviews of the Windows 7 RC, benchmarks and etc. If you have products you depend on (like all of my systems must network for a BackBurner render farm and Team Build debugging environment), search and check the vendors support of Windows 7. You'll more than likely find yourself pleasantly surprised, be it production software or games. |

Maybe later this year. I had a very bad experience when I first tried out vista and believe me or not I was one of those people who came and got it on it's first release. I would get windows 7 if I can read a lot of good reviews about it later this year. |

I've stuck with XP and 32 bit for eight years now - I took a pass on Vista - so I do figure it really is time to upgrade (both the OS and my amount of memory). And my computer itself is otherwise fully up to snuff, so... I'll also be going with a full retail version of Windows 7, and because I'll be able to use this copy on my next computer build too, I'm hoping to make it last a good long while. Edit: I've also concluded that XP Mode in Win7 would be a real dog for my older, incompatible games. So I'm going to have a Win7/WinXP dual boot setup instead. And save myself $100 by buying the Home version of Windows 7 rather than Pro.

Thanks to technet I've been using the final version for a few months now. I wouldn't rush out to get it if what you have is working, but I wouldn't avoid it either. It definately scales very well (ie runs well on netbooks), but I wish it had the stability of Vista. Meh, nothing is perfect. member of imminst.org |

I think thats the general consensus with this OS. It runs well enough people aren't being warned off like its the plague. Under normal economic times I imagine Microsoft would be looking at a killer release. At this time though I imagine any good sells would be welcome. One thing this OS seems to much better is run my games which require DX10. Maybe thats just me and my rig though*Shrugs* |
